As UCF prepares for this weekend's road trip to Kansas State - their first Big 12 conference game in school history - I revisited my archives and found footage from UCF's first and only trip to Manhattan in 2010. Shot with my first smartphone (Motorola Droid X), here's a view of the ominous shelf cloud (and lightning!) that caused a 90-minute delay in the first quarter. Despite the torrential downpour (I called it horizontal rain in the video), dedicated K-State students refused to leave their seats. Delay entertainment included Rick Astley on the video board.
As for the game, UCF squandered opportunities offensively and lost in the closing minutes, 17-13. It turned out to be a great season though as UCF finished 11-3 with a No. 21 final AP ranking after beating Georgia in the Liberty Bowl, which was the first bowl win in school history.
