Why is Patti @ Wide Receiver?

Why in the world is Nick Patti at wide receiver? He's a failed QB, who runs a 4.65 and wasting a space for other WRs on the team. How many dropped passes did he have?

I know coaches and members of the press that have mentioned other names that do noticeably better in practice on a consistent basis. I can no longer attend practices, since they're closed to the public, so I depend on what they tell me.

A name that has come up more than once is a WR named Jones. He looks to have great hands and speed---he keeps up with the first team defense.

Why aren't players like this at least returning kickoffs? Why the heck is Patti at WR?

I have been told over the last few months about the bad decisions by O'leary, but really didn't believe it until last night.

I've been going to the games for 23 seasons now ( a season ticket holder for 18 years).

Where was Tristan Payton? Holman was starting to get rhythm with his other receivers.

Payton got at least one target last night. How many drops did Patti have

Totally agree 100%. If anyone thinks that Nick Patti is a quality WR at the level of football that we want to achieve then you are completely fooling yourselves. He's NOT A 3rd or 4th options. He's like a 7th.

Compare say Baylor's 3rd or 4th option and our past with his talent level.
Let's get the balls to talents like Payton and let him drop balls and screw up all day long. The guy could be a complete
beast. Throw him the hell out there and let him swim.

Our future is in his hands, Jones, and all those new WR recruits

Nick Patti at WR is not the future of UCF football. Does anyone really see that??

Same thing with Dontravius Wilson.

Does anyone see a 1000 yard back here? A burner? A gamebreaker that scares opponents??? We lost to FIU for GOD sake. Let's gamble a little a and shoot for the fences. Put McGowen in. Get Stanback in space and stop running him into a pile of crap.

My 2-cents

These basic WRONG coaching decisions are numerous. Remind me again why we pay GOL so much money?

Once he catches the ball, his Beer gut will bounce DB's out of the way. Hence YAC

Patti is going to be targeted once or twice a game, it's not like he's a key to our offense. Don't see the issue with it, sure would be nice to get Payton more looks or another young receiver but not sure what they are doing wrong in practice to where they can't get on the field.

Wilson looked like the much better back then Stanback last night. He could at least get some yards on his runs, he may not be a game breaker but Stanback doesn't look like one anymore.

We suck. Gotta swing for the fences. Let's go with the risk and potential. What do we have to lose?

My guess is that with all the losses at WR, there were only a handful of guys who showed the ability step in and play the position with any reliability (Akins, Smith, Johnson, Payton?). GOL looked at Patti and DiNovo, who were not going to be anywhere on the depth chart at QB and thought, "these guys know the offense, at least they'll know where to line up and maybe what route to run." Perhaps a better strategy would have been to target a couple of transfer or successful community college WRs to fill the void until our young recruits matured.

Is Oldham hurt or is he just not good enough to play?

Oldham is injured. The few injuries and transfers that we had were the difference in a win vs a loss IMO. Mostly Anderson.

Correct...the loss of Oldham and maybe Franks...there wasn't any experienced depth at WR, hence only Akins had catches in previous games prior to last night.

Good news is Akins, Smith and even walk-on Johnson looked pretty good in their first starting roles...and hopefully Payton can step up as another Freshmen.

Believe the OP is somewhat clueless at the current WR depth chart and maybe he is still looking at last year's depth chart, hence complaining that Patti got some snaps last night.

HAHAHAHHA As far as clueless, I'm probably more informed of what's going on than the average person at this time. There's NO way Patti should have even been in the game as a WR with others that are available. The point is he shouldn't be on the depth chart! Bottom line.

Ah...ok...some maybe you are Patti's former girlfriend who is upset that Patti is not the 4th string QB this season.

Sorry, the only way Patti could get on the field this year will be as a slot WR (or in the Wild Knight package which he also ran vs FIU).

Since Oldham and Franks were unavailable, I noticed you never stated who else would you have played at WR besides Akins, Smith, Johnson, Payton and Patti vs FIU?

Why not? (Heck, you didn't even know Oldham and Franks were unavailable for this game).

Patti's first game at WR and he catches one of 2 thrown at him, and if memory is correct the one he didn't catch wasn't a great throw. and he is already a bust. He wasn't going to play at QB so if he can be a 4th to 7th WR who cares. He knows the offense, knows the routes. Same with DiNovo. Extra depth is never a bad thing even if it isn't needed.

Patti did have a 8 yard catch up the middle in the final drive. He bobbled it but pulled it in before getting hammered. I have no idea if he will be good or nor, but he got his first catch!

I thought we would have used patti for a flea flicker or something? Over?

Patti ran one play at Wild Knight (direct snap). I wouldn't be surprised if that play is in there somewhere, something like RC ran a few times...24k might have thrown a pass or two...and maybe AJ Guyton did as well.

Why not? (Heck, you didn't even know Oldham and Franks were unavailable for this game).

And WHERE did I ever say that I thought they were available?

THE problem is---there ARE players on the scout team that are better than Patti!

I don't think he's horrible, I'm just saying there are better options. There are players on the team that have NOT been given the same opportunities.

I'm sorry if you're a family member , or whatever!

And there it comes...new poster...family member of a scout team player makes a post knocking a player who beat out his kid for PT.

Good news is many former scout team players ended up with solid UCF careers....hope yours does the same during this redshirt and/or scout team season.

(Or relative of the WR that quit the team 2 weeks ago because he was deep down on the depth chart)

Yeah right........ Looks like another nuthugger that can't handle the truth of the ridiculous actions of the head coach.
Sure--you're correct and some of the staff and press are wrong---- yawn....
Yes, I'm knocking the coaching staff for making bad decisions over and over and I started with the WR position.

I've had enough of this coach. He's done a lot of good, but it's time to move on to someone who can recruit as well as coach. We should be a top 25 team year after year and this is all that we have to show for it. We look pathetic and it's embarrassing. It's not fair to the players, fans, and donors.
