Tre'mon Morris-Brash will sadly not be drafted

Just saw his pro day numbers and they were awful. He had a great end to his UCF career but his numbers basically put him deep into undrafted territory.

UCF is among the schools that will get an official visit from four-star quarterback Malik Washington.

The product of Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland spoke with Rivals at the recent Rivals Camp Series event in Charlotte. Washington took his first official visit to Virginia Tech earlier this month.

"It was amazing," Washington said of his VT visit which coincided with their spring game. "There's a lot of support there. People in Blacksburg love Virginia Tech football and they showed out for the spring game. 35,000 attendance which is crazy."

Washington is also scheduled to visit UCF (May 31), Syracuse (June 7) and Maryland (June 21). Pittsburgh and Colorado could also get OVs.

Syracuse: "I'm excited to see what they do this season. They seem to have a good culture with good people in their program. I'm excited to see their product on the field."

UCF: "(I'm looking forward to) building that relationship even more. I've been there one time and had a good experience. I'm looking forward to getting down there."

Maryland: "I want to see how they operate on a day-to-day basis."

UCF's 2025 recruiting class of eight commitments is currently ranked No. 17 nationally. The Knights did have an early 2025 quarterback commitment in EJ Colson, though he pushed up his academic timeline to reclassify for 2024 and will officially enroll later this summer.

UCF currently has a pair of young quarterbacks in redshirt freshman Dylan Rizk and true freshman Riley Trujillo. Starter KJ Jefferson only has one year of eligibility remaining.

Southeast Spotlight: Programs off to surprising start in 2025 class

The closer we get to the summer, the faster commitments are rolling in. Some national powers on the recruiting trail have yet to really make their move with top targets but other programs have begun to reel in some important additions for their 2025 recruiting class.

Here are five programs in the Southeast region that are off to a surprisingly strong start to the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Signs a thing of the past? Electronic wristbands & helmet communication could be on the way

In light of the Michigan controversy, looks like the NCAA will fast track changes.

Electronic communications -- either in-helmet speakers or so-called "wearables" like GoRout -- have been discussed by the NCAA Football Rules Committee for years. Recent events have demanded they take a more serious look at electronic options to aid play calling.

"Oh yeah, put me on the record on this," said Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts, a member of the NCAA Football Oversight Committee. "I am a strong proponent of it. Our commissioner is a strong component of it. We've had lots of talks with our coaches in the Big Ten."

A lot of it before Connor Stalions became the biggest spy since James Bond. The NCAA Football Rules Committee and secretary rules-editor Steve Shaw have already let it be known electronic communications will be a "top of mind" issue in 2024.

In 2021, Southern and Grambling experimented with using helmet communications in their rivalry game, the Bayou Classic. In the latest experiment, FBS teams will be allowed to use electronic communications in during bowl season beginning next month. Competing schools would have to agree on its use. There is no limit to the number of players who could wear the technology.

"This is something that is not a brand-new topic," Shaw said. "The rules committee kind of indicated that technology would be a huge component of next year's meeting."

***Tampa Jesuit OL Gavin Blanchard loves UCF's family vibe***

bslzbejnvyhjb5yafpzb

Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit offensive lineman Gavin Blanchard had a fantastic experience visiting UCF for the spring game and has already made plans to return for an official visit.

"This (spring game) visit for me was all about the family," Blanchard told UCFSports.com. "Coach (Gus) Malzahn and Coach (Herb) Hand all got to meet with the family. We got there at 4:30 and were immediately greeted. We met with the coaches right away. I introduced my family to Coach Malzahn and Miss Kristi. They're great people."

Blanchard was offered by Hand in January.

"One thing Coach Hand has said is he likes my ability to move," Blanchard said. "Considering I'm an undersized lineman, I can't be lacking in technique. He sees me as a left guard. In their offense, their left guard pulls a decent amount of the time. That's where he thinks I'd be best at.

"His message to me is basically come here, you're wanted. You'd be part of the family. I love that. That's what I'm looking for."

Blanchard said watching the spring game was a lot of fun.

"I thought the entire thing was competitive," he said. "I like how they broke it up and did fun stuff like linemen catching punts and the face. That shows a lot about the program. They get the job done when it's needed, but also can still have a good time."

He's booked his first official visit to UCF on May 31 - Bounce House Weekend.

"What I like most about UCF is the people," Blanchard said. "You can feel when coaches are trying to be fake or pitch you something, but not UCF. They're not fake. They just want me for who I am and want to develop and turn me into a great man."

Blanchard has also recently visited USF and Miami. He's planning to see Ole Miss soon.

"Some of my favorites right now are UCF, Clemson, Missouri and USF," Blanchard said. "Those are the coaches I talk to the most. I know they care. I plan to take a few visits and then make my decision."

***Four-star DB Rashad Johnson: 'It's all love from UCF'***

South Sumter four-star safety Rashad Johnson has been a frequent visitor to UCF over the last year and he returned on Monday with his friend and teammate, George Mullins. The duo are high-priority targets for the Knights in the Class of 2025.

"I've visited UCF a lot," Johnson said. "I was there a couple times last summer and went to a few games. This time we got to meet Coach Gus (Malzahn) in his office. We saw the campus, stuff like that. Took pictures. Chilled for a little while and met with the coaches that are recruiting us."

Johnson said he's developing a great relationship with defensive coordinator Addison Williams.

"I like how they work with their defensive backs," Johnson said. "Coach was explaining how they work their guys. It's similar to my high school."

UCF sees the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder as a safety. As a junior, Johnson finished with 59 tackles, two interceptions and seven pass breakups.

"They said they like how I go get the ball out of the air," Johnson said. "How I can change direction and then they like my size of course."

Johnson said he had a great time attending UCF home games this past season.

"They're lit," he said.

Johnson said he really enjoyed speaking with the head Knight himself, Gus Malzahn.

"It's just love from Coach Gus," Johnson said. "He really wants us to be part of their program. And I think they might have a chance to come get me. UCF feels like home. It's just down the road from my family. It's all love from UCF."

Johnson has a number of schools recruiting him. He said he may be visiting Kentucky and Florida soon. He also mentioned Mississippi State, Penn State, Michigan State and Tennessee as a few of the schools keeping in constant contact.

***Background on KJ Jefferson's arrest in Arkansas***

Via a source:

During his time in the transfer portal, I believe in early January, KJ was ticketed for speeding/reckless driving in the Fayetteville area, something like going 70 in a 45 mph zone.

Shortly thereafter, he moved to Orlando.

I'm not sure why he wasn't booked (arrested) at that time, maybe it was a traffic camera that got him, but KJ has been in communication with law enforcement and it was agreed upon that he would return to Arkansas after UCF's spring game in order to face the charges. So that's why he was booked today.

Don't have all the details on the case, but it's the formal process to starting a plea agreement which will include community service.

UCF has been aware of this and knew this would come out at some point this week.

This will not impact his status at UCF.

Update at 4:50:

Just heard a bit more.

The reckless driving incident occurred in May 2023 and was "held" (covered up) until the completion of Arkansas' football season.

He was actually going 100 mph in a 70 (interstate, I presume). More than 20 mph over the limit escalates to reckless driving.

Statement from Gus Malzahn:

“I have been fully aware of this situation that took place in May 2023 prior to his arrival at UCF. Since KJ has been here, he’s been a great leader and an exemplary member of our program.”
