***Official Memphis Look-A-Like Thread***

Fantastic win!!! After the EZU debacle, I didn't think we had a chance against the Fighin' Fickells. I didn't hear about GAgate until Sunday. Makes a lot more sense of the SMU/EZU/Cindy results.

This LAL thread is going to be challenging. I hope y'all are bringing your A games.

Remember, the post with the most likes is the unofficial winner. Be sure to like the posts you enjoy.

Students leaving early discussion

So I have seen in the dungeon as well as all over twitter that fans are furious with students leaving early every game (especially since tickets are free). I have seen many different "options" on how to prevent this and I wanted to start a thread dedicated to this topic. I really like what Alabama does with their free student tickets. For those who do not know, tickets are free to students but if you leave before the 4th quarter you are unable to claim a ticket to the following home game.

I find it sad you have to force students to stay but going to the Big12, I would hope more want to be there at the game. What do you think should/can be done to eliminate so many students leaving early in the future?

10,000th Post

Good Morning Everyone,

As the thread title says, this is my 10,000th post and instead of spending it on some random qb post I wanted to take a quick moment and share some things about the community that we all call home and share my appreciation for all of you.

I slowed down my post count when we started doing the radio show in part to save my opinions for the media that we put out there that I hope you all enjoy. (That’s the only reason we do this). That doesn’t mean I don’t have them. When you are producing any kind of media there is a higher standard of what’s ok to put out there. Please remember that when you consume sports content. It’s a hard balance.

Thank you to @Brandon for following his passion and providing a great forum, a space for program info, and a place for us to grow together with the program. He has made a lot of sacrifices to do it and although he enjoys what he does, it is a lot of work with disproportionate income. Contrary to what some people say, he is 100% a professional and balances what he knows with protecting the relationships we all benefit from. He 100% cares, not only about the content, but also about the people here. Personally I love it when he breaks into troll mode, but he has to sacrifice his fandom for this place. He is very witty and just a great person. Thank you.

The community here is also made up of great people that have a real passion for our team. It has grown with UCFs prominence and it’s highs and lows. It is chalk full of very knowledgeable people from all walks of life. I have met many of you and every time I have ever needed anything, there has never been a shortage of people willing to step up and lend a hand. Whether it’s getting specialty Disney pins, obtaining parking passes, or connecting with my life coach, I have made many friends and am very thankful for everyone’s kindness and generosity for someone who was a random screen name before we met.

Please try to remember that when you post here, whether you are a seasoned veteran poster or someone new. This community has grown asymptotically with every leap that UCF has made. As more people are added, the culture changes. However, it is up to us to maintain that close knit feel and the “unofficial” rules in order to keep this place what it has been while accepting that it will change. Remember that the next time you feel the urge to meet someone at Pollo.

There comes a point in your life when you realize that the younger folks you interact with don’t get your references anymore 😂. The program is maturing enough that I see this happening in our community. Heck, I am a millennial, and we have gotten to the point where we are being looked at as the older guys. That means we are stratifying as a fanbase. My advice, everyone have some patience as each group has had a different “UCF” experience and will have a different outlook and expectations regarding the program. Not everyone is right and the tapestry of shared experiences is woven by sharing them. For those of us who have been around a while, make sure to share them. We have the ability to document the nuances and history in a way that 100+ year old programs don’t.

Lastly, thank you to everyone that has and will help me with something, share moments with myself and my kids (like meeting up with @dali drama, @My_Lament_Dreams, @noleknight, etc), etc. Participate in Events that you can (luncheons etc), give what you can, share your opinions, try not to make/take things personal, and keep supporting eachother. Remember that all of the leaders of the program are not lifers (with a few exceptions like Eric Desalvo). That means there will be change and it’s ok to criticize respectfully. Thank you to everyone, have a beer, and enjoy the memories as we build the future and the storytelling together.

To those in our community that have passed on (this will become more frequent with time) I hope that we continue to remember them. When that time comes for me, I hope that you remember me fondly and that you found some value in my being part of this community. I do think it’s time we start a memorial thread.

Cheers

(PS, thank you for the support and criticism of the content that I help produce and even if you don’t agree, we only do it for our collective enjoyment)

[SIAP] Objective Big XII Deal v. PAC-12 article ([San Jose] Mercury News)

I've really enjoyed several writers out of the [San Jose] Mercury News, and this article is themost outstanding, objective analysis I've seen yet of what the Big XII Deal does to the PAC-12, and College Sports in general..

It's longer, so other than to repeat the intro (with common quotes), I'll try to 'cliff off' the main, 'distinguished points' I haven't seen elsewhere, especially given this is a west coast paper ...

'... major win for Yormark ... Big 12 replaced its football behemoths ... 43.9% increase in average annual ... massive injection of security .. crucially erases any strategic advantage [PAC-12 commish] Kliavkoff held ... Until now, the Pac-12 was positioned to offer contract terms ... while the Big 12 sat in limbo ... spring of 2024 ... approach provides the Big 12 with a deal in hand ... can dangle in front of any Pac-12 president unhappy with the contract terms Kliavkoff eventually presents ... the leverage has flipped.
But ... equally true:
  1. ESPN and Fox are the real winners ... would not have agreed ... if they thought it would be more expensive than waiting ... spring of 2024 ...
  2. ... Big 12 is a winner ... average annual value ($31.66 million) ... hardly ... transformative ... that’s secondary ... Yormark’s priority ... revenue, exposure and security ... not potential expansion targets ...
But ask neutral observers, and the [PAC-12] outlook isn’t as bright ... Why the [PAC-12] pessimism?
  1. ... Big Ten’s ... $62.5 million per school ... new ceiling ... Big 12’s deal established a floor ... bidders ... can use $31.66 million as justification for driving down their offers ... Pac-12 has more in common with the Big 12 than the Big Ten ...
  2. ... Oregon and Washington give the Pac-12 two football brands ... but the Big 12 owns a deeper well of quality programs ... networks are paying not only for the best matchup ... but also for the third- and fourth-best games, depth is critical ... Big 12 benefitted from timing ... first allowed the league to scoop up the best [G5]

Ricky Barber played his best game of the season against Cincinnati.

The UCF defensive tackle wreaked havoc on the Bearcats' offensive line, stifling their run game and harassing quarterback Ben Bryant.

"He got the helmet sticker from Coach Malzahn," defensive coordinator Travis Williams said. "He deserved it. The whole defensive line played well. You really saw No. 5 stand out. That's why he came here, to play big-time ball and to showcase his talent. That's what we expect out of Ricky Barber each week. I'm so proud of him. We challenged him to start taking over games. It was his time. I'm glad he accepted the challenge."

Head coach Gus Malzahn echoed that sentiment during his Monday press conference.

"Ricky is a dominant player," Malzahn said. "When he plays like he can play, he can't be blocked one-on-one. He was really good against the run. He hit the quarterback numerous times. He took his game to the next level. We challenged our guys. This time of year your best players have to play their best. That's how you win. He definitely did that. It was really good to see."

We then caught up with Barber who reflected on his big performance.

"I feel it was my best game of the season so far," Barber said. "Like coach Gus Malzahn said, the best players got to play in order for us to win the game. I feel like I came out and dominated like I was supposed to."

Did they feel they "owed one" to Cincinnati?

"100 percent," Barber said. "I didn't really get to play (against Cincinnati) last year, but I remember seeing how everybody felt after that game. We owed them one and I felt we got them back."

Barber felt it was a "complete game" effort to beat the Bearcats.

"Offense and defense both played complete games. It was a good team win."

What's the early scouting report on Memphis?

"They have a good o-line up front that works well together," Barber said. "They have some running backs that if you get out your gaps they're going to take it straight downhill."

Now that UCF has the win against Cincinnati, their path remains clear: Win out and they'll be in the conference championship game.

"I feel like we have a goal that we set for this season," Barber said. "The goal never changed. The focus is definitely more intense now."

Being that it was Halloween, Barber was asked about his favorite costume as a kid.

"I think when I was maybe seven, I was the Hulk."

He's a big Reese's fan when it comes to candy.

***Gus Malzahn Press Conference - Memphis Week ⚔🏈

UCF head coach Gus Malzahn looks back on the win against No. 20 Cincinnati and to this week's game at Memphis. Here's everything he had to say in his weekly press conference held on Halloween.

Opening statement:

"Getting prepared to go on the road again in conference. Going to play a very solid Memphis team. When you look at them, their quarterback, he's a really good quarterback. Throws the ball really well. Their kicking game is one of the best in our league if not the best as far as their kicker and their punter goes. Their defense has done a good job, specifically against the run. They've got a safety who is one of the best defensive players in our league.

"Going on the road, the last time we went on the road we didn't handle it very well. We expect our guys to be in a different spot. We had a big win this weekend. I think everybody knows that. We've got momentum and we need to carry it over. We need to play that way, with that same energy and that same approach each game moving forward.

"I think Memphis had an off week. That's always time they can spend on their opponent and more time getting their things cleaned up. We expect to get their best.

Reflecting on Cincinnati, how did you like how resilient your team was? Starting quarterback goes out, Mikey comes in, there were turnovers and the offense had to march down the field and win the game.

"Looking at it, we had the turnovers in the red zone which would have led to the points if we took care of the ball. I think we could have won the game a little easier. I think the big thing a lot of times is it's how you win the game. We got a chance to feel real pressure against a quality opponent. A championship type program. The fact we were able to score. It's a championship type program. They scored and we go back and score. Mikey was in there and the team rallied around him. It was a good way to win a football game. That will help us moving forward, I truly believe. It was big in a lot of different ways."

How is John Rhys Plumlee doing today and what's his status?

"We're going to go day to day with it. We'll check on him here in just a little bit. I know he's been with the trainers and all that. We'll take it day by day this week. We'll see where he's at."

Cincinnati was a tough challenge for the offensive line. How do you think they did?

"I thought they did an outstanding job. Rushing for over 250 yards against that defense. Protecting our quarterback really well when we threw it. Especially in the last two drives there. Just did a great job. I think they're starting to come together like we talked about. It was a really good performance by them."

Are there any other factors besides John Rhys' health to determine who starts at quarterback against Memphis?

"No. Like I said, we're going to take it day by day as far as that goes. We've got two guys obviously we can with it. I think everybody knew that coming in. We'll just take it day by day with John Rhys right now."

So if John Rhys is health, he'll start?

"We're going to take it day by day. That's the plan. We'll see what happens."

R.J. Harvey, having that moment coming back from the knee injury, what did that mean to you to see that for him?

"He's one of the guys on the team that has a lot of respect for. He's overcome a lot of adversity. Works hard. Just does a great job. He's been coming on. He's been getting more and more confident. He was a quarterback two years ago. Still learning to play the running back role. Between Johnny and Bowser and him, we've got three real guys. Three guys that'll have a good chance to play in the NFL. He did a good job. That last run obviously was a really god run. Really good blocking up front. Our right side and Alec Holler sealed it. He went through there and made two guys miss. He's doing a great job of being patient with the zone. He bounced a couple. Pressed the point and bounced a couple. That was real impressive too."

With Mikey at quarterback, how does the play calling change if at all?

"We didn't change anything. We ran our offense. He's capable of running the same offense and all that. He did a good job executing it."

Last time UCF left the state, you didn't play to your full potential at ECU. What do you need to do differently when you head out to Memphis?

"I just told our team. It's a mindset and approach. The way we approach it. It starts with me. The guys, I really feel strong we'll learn from that experience. College football, there's more parity than ever before. Every week you have to bring your lunch. You have to bring your A game. Obviously we didn't do that. Lesson learned. I really think our guys will have a different approach. Not only this game, but we have some other road games too."

How do you avoid falling into a trap against Memphis?

"What we just talked about. The way that things happened two weeks ago, I don't think there will be any more traps. We've got to bring our lunch. Our guys understand that and our coaches understand that. We're going to get their best effort. They've got a chance to heal up too. That's always good. When you have an off week, guys can get healed up. There's a lot of advantages. Them playing at home, having an off week. Us having a big emotional game. Physical game. We're going to have to be ready. I think because that lesson learned two weeks ago, I really feel strong that we'll not do that again."

Josh Celiscar was named the defensive player of the week in the conference. What did you like about the way he played?

"He was playing at a high level. He was playing with great physicality. Great effort. His emotional energy. Other guys fed off. It was real impressive. The thing about him is he's been consistent. He's playing at a high level all year. He's turning into a dominant player. He's turning into one of the best defensive players in our league. Really happy for him."

You've talked about veteran teams improving later on the year. What are you seeing from this team?

"We stopped the run against a team that can really run it. Give them credit. That last run. We were in one of those deals, are they going to run it or pass it? It's the last drive. They ran it and had a good call against that. For the most part, we got after them. We were able to run the ball. You're going against a quality team and you're able to run and stop the run, that's a sign of a team getting better."

Some big news coming out of the Big 12 yesterday with the media rights agreement. There's an extension with Fox and ESPN. Looks like the Big 12 will be No. 3 among Power Five conferences in total distribution. How big is that for the UCF program?

"It's real big. That was great news. We kind of knew something was going to come here pretty quick. That was great news timing wise. That's a big part of being successful in college football. Generating the money and the TV money and all that. That's a good shot in the arm, for sure."

The win keeps you in the conference title race. What can an emotional win like that do for the team's confidence?

"When you get to the second half of the season there's very few teams that get better. You saw us take that next step. That was encouraging. It's week to week like I was saying. You've got to bring your lunch every week. It's hard to do. Especially when you're on the road. This will be a good challenge for us. I'm looking forward to watching our guys respond. It was really encouraging to see us get better and take that next step."

Mikey doesn't get a lot of credit for his running ability. In this game and in the spring he was running around pretty good. Do you feel he has enough athletically to get it done with his feet?

"In the spring you could tell he was faster and stronger. We had max protection on that one and he came back and outran the linebacker to get to the sideline. He's faster and stronger than he was last year. He can make some plays with his feet."

You talked about how to win. The way you won and the important. It didn't go according to plan against a good team. How do you compare a win like that vs. one that goes according to plan?

"From a coach standpoint, after it was over, I'm glad it turned out like it did. During the game, I wish we would have scored those two and won by 17 points. That's what I wished. But after it played out like it did, I'm glad it did that. That's what our team needed. In college football, there's very few times when the pressure is on. You either get it done or you don't. Are you going to respond? Our team responded in a couple situations like that against a championship program. That was really good. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to win by 17 points either."

How valuable is Ricky Barber to this defense? T-Will said last night it might have been his best game of the season.

"Ricky is a dominant player. When he plays like he can play, he can't be blocked one-on-one. He was really good against the run. He hit the quarterback numerous times. He took his game to the next level. We challenged our guys. This time of year your best players have to play their best. That's how you win. He definitely did that. It was really good to see."

How encouraging was it to see the defensive backs make plays on the 50/50 balls they didn't make in the ECU game?

"It was good. We got some really talented defensive backs. We play a lot of man. You're on an island by yourself and that's not easy to do. Our guys responded and made plays when they had to."

Happy Halloween. What was your favorite Halloween costume when you were a kid?

"I don't know. I really can't remember. I did the trick or treat deal though. I can't remember exactly what."

Do you have a favorite Halloween candy?

"No, not really. I'm pretty boring. Sorry about that."

You had a birthday last week. Did you get a chance to celebrate?

"I've been coaching all my life so the birthdays are usually right in the middle. You don't really celebrate. I will tell you this. Once we got home, we had some family and friends and we got to spend about four hours together. There was a little bit of birthday celebration. But I was so fired up about the game I didn't really think about myself. It was a really good time."

***Memphis coach & Florida native Ryan Silverfield talks UCF, impressed with Knights' rise ⚔🐯🏈

Ryan Silverfield spent a couple years at UCF from 2006-07 working under George O'Leary as a graduate assistant. Now the head coach at Memphis since 2020, he offers a unique perspective when talking about the Tigers' opponent this weekend.

He's 1-1 all time against the Knights. In 2020, Memphis won a 50-49 thriller. UCF had 798 yards of total offense, but gave up 703. A potential game-winning field goal was missed. UCF won last year's game in the Bounce House, 24-7.

Prior to the 2020 loss in the Liberty Bowl, UCF was riding a 13-game winning streak against Memphis.

The 2022 Tigers are 4-4 with wins against Navy, Arkansas State, North Texas and Temple. They opened the season with a loss to Mississippi State and have lost three in a row to Houston, ECU and Tulane. The UH and ECU losses in particular were gut wrenching (Memphis blew a 19-point fourth quarter lead against Houston and lost a 4 OT game at ECU).

Here's a recap of what Silverfield said about UCF in his weekly press conference.

Silverfield said he's "excited" to play another top 25 team. Excited it's at home. UCF has the nation's fifth-best offense and the defense has held opponents to 20 points or less in nine of the last 11 games.

He knows Gus Malzahn because of the ties to Mike Norvell.

Silverfield say they are preparing for both John Rhys Plumlee and Mikey Keene.

"Keene had a fantastic game this past game. He also is the same quarterback that whipped us up pretty good last season. I believe he won nine games last year. He's shown that he's very capable. Plumlee is obviously a threat that can do a lot of things. They obviously thought he should have been named the starter at the beginning of the season. You have to prepare. Both have a unique skill set. Coach Malzahn is going to do what he does on offense regardless of who his quarterback is. They do have different things they bring to the table. We have to be ready for that and that's part of our preparation this week."

Silverfield said UCF is a "physical" team that wants to run the football. Mentioned how the quarterbacks put their head down and try to play physical.

Also mentioned UCF's red zone defense.

He said there are "Navy elements" to UCF with their zone read and RPO. They want to go downhill. Isaiah Bowser is a big running back that wants to run people over. UCF has athletes, similar to Houston.

In watching film, he always film of the previous year's game and what differences he sees in this year's team. Watching the ECU game vs. UCF, he says it was turnovers.

He did mention it was a rivalry against UCF. Mentioned not many players are still around from those 2017/18 years, at least I assume that's what he meant.

Silverfield was asked about his UCF ties and trying to emulate their success. He said UCF has been helped by being the largest school in the country. Said UCF has done well in the portal. He's originally from Jacksonville. He remembers UCF in the late 1980s and thinking, "What the heck is this? There's no way this can be become what it has become."

Talks about going to camps from Mike Kruczek on and seeing how UCF exploded as a university. And the facility growth. One of his fondest memories at Memphis was beating UCF in 2020.

Then there was an awkward question about the Big 12's TV deal. "That's a lot of money... It's tremendous for those teams involved. We're very pleased with our conference right now. We're going to continue to do things as a university and athletic department to put us in the best position to have success."

UCF Fast & Slow - Cincy Bearcats - The Return of The Gata Slaya Edition

If last week turned you off of UCF football this is the type of game and week that turns you back on. That is why last week didn't bother me as much because i knew what we had in front of us. Sucks to have lost game day but maybe the extra pressure of all that would have been a distraction. Instead we went out there and beat Cincy's ass. I know the score doesn't show it but i felt we had a chance with out one of those turn overs occurring to have pulled away in this one and win by two scores. Cincy was lucky to have kept it that close. Cincy dropped a ton of passes, had some stupid penalties, couldn't run for shit. I was curious how we would look and i was really impressed. I came away feeling we were clearly the better team and that makes me feel great for the rest of the season. It makes last week's loss look more like an exception then the rule. Maybe it is true they knew calls or whatever but we showed out yesterday and we needed that...

One continued caveat & gripe in these write ups is that i was of course watching this game live in the stadium which makes these write ups more difficult because of the ridiculous lack of replays our stadium shows and the continued inability to achieve any data signal in my seats. If my eyes don't see it i am going to miss it. Doesn't help i am constantly making ice cream runs for the kids either....

UCF Fast:
  • Offensive Line: Going to give the big uglies some love. Cincy is a no joke defense. They got depth and highly recruited guys up and down that roster. They got only one sack all night, not many QB pressures that i noticed. We ran over them all game. No penalties, no holdings, no offsides, really solid games. Their best of the season.

  • MK: I realize the fans are divided on which guy should be playing, I think we are in a good spot to have two guys that can play. I think they are much closer to one another then folks are giving credit for. To me there is not an obvious decision here. They are both solid options and we can win with either of them. JRP is more dynamic with his legs and that gives him the edge for Gus which i get. But MK proved last season and again tonight that he can win us games as well. He stepped in and made some solid plays, completed over 70% of his passes. I think his best one was the run he had to left side. You see how much more wide open that was when the defense isnt expecting him to run it. He had one later he should have pulled and ran and didnt. He needs to be more consistent and willing to run on those reads. Great job my MK though.

  • RJ Harvey: He is really coming along. Has great balance, can accelerate, can catch out of the backfield. I agree he is probably our all around best back. I like that he is getting more involved.

  • Baker & Hudson: Both made some solid catches, i don't think either had a drop. Baker had a drive saving 1st down catch on sidelines. Hudson was targeted 5 times for 5 catches. Both played really well against a solid secondary.
  • Clean Game Penalties: I mentioned this already but great work for the entire team. One penalty all game and it was a dead ball personal foul. Literally not one live ball penalty. not sure i can remember another game that has that stat. I don't even remember them declining a penalty against us.

  • Refs: Mainly because of the point above, i felt they called this game well. Neither team got penalized that much. They didn't call any bullshit waste of time targeting calls either. The game flowed much better with out constant ref interruptions.
  • Gus QB Handling Situation: I am going to give Gus some props here as well because a lot of people have been shitting on him for his handling of the QB situation but i think it was masterful. He went with JRP who he felt was the best option for the team. The mop up duties he gave to TC so not to burn MK's redshirt. Once TC hit his 4 games he is now playing MK. I personally think MK would have played in this spot regardless of TC's number of games but it is great to have MK with 3 more games he can play and still keep his redshirt. This is the type of stuff that proves to transfers and recruits that the coach is thinking of them and their futures as well. It is all part of the game now with the NIL crap.

  • Defense: D played well tonight. My only knock on them is the soft CB coverage. I feel like we have good enough talent there to play more in their face. Several pick ups by Cincy seemed like we just conceded the catch and the 1st down. This also plays into lack of ints. I really wasn't worried about this QB and we were getting some good pressure but we were making some of the throws way to easy but other then that we played a hell of a game. Holding them to 6pts in the 1st half and to less then 50 yards rushing all game. Really well played.

  • Crowd: Props to the crowd and atmosphere. It was rocking, super loud at the end, left with my ears ringing which i love. Some shade i will throw to the students that left the game after half, all NARFs, probably there just to see who got home coming king and queen which i couldn't give less about if i tried. I didnt give a shit when i was as student either. How do you leave that game early?

UCF Slow:
  • Drops: We continue to struggle with the drops. Martin had a drive killer dropping that 1st down and JRP got hurt on the next play. That was a great read by JRP, i actually love that call where he has a true run pass option rolling out. That is super hard to stop. Cincy did that with Ridder last year. But those throws are not going to be perfect. Got to catch those balls. ROK i think had two more drops tonight. ROK was 7 catches on 13 targets. He has to bring more of those in.

  • Turnovers: Two more brutal ones this week. Both inside the 20 when we are likely going in for 7 but at least 3. In close games against good teams this cannot happen. I get the Bowser one was a fluke type helmet on ball but to have the screwed up handoff shortly afterwards. We are lucky to come away with a win when we are -2 on turnovers and both took points of the board against a ranked opponent.
  • JR Touches: This is my one consistent Gus gripe. I get he has a lot of mouths to feed but how do we keep JR off the field? He got only 5 touches tonight and avg 6.4 yards a touch. ROK had more runs then JR. JR is a different level athlete and speed out there. He can break one every time he touches it. I am still at a loss for why he plays so little and it seems like we will run Bowser more on one drive to the point where Bowser's last carries he is gassed and going for no gain when we could sub in JR to take the last 1 or 2 of those touches and the defense sees a completely different type of runner

  • Replays in Stadium: Still sucks balls

  • Shutting Vendors Down Mid 3rd Quarter: This maybe more of a personal issue but i made my 2nd trip down for Jeremiahs with a few minutes left in the 3rd quarter and got there and they said they were closed but they had another booth open on other side which took another 10 minutes and i missed plays, etc... My issue is they did not run out of product, they were counting what was left and moving it to the other location. I get if this happens late in the game but 3rd quarter why are you shutting down any vendors especially with product left to sell.
Boys... we needed that one. I was surprised by how poorly the game went last week after the way we had been playing but after the ECU game I wasn't all that upset because the way the schedule was set up. We still get our shots at Cincy and Tulane. All ECU did was take away our margin for error but everything was still in front of us. All you can ask for is an opportunity to earn it on the field and we are getting that these next few weeks. We control our own destiny. Go Knights!!!

***Isaiah Bowser bounces back vs. Cincinnati, gets ready for road test ⚔🏈

Isaiah Bowser was not going to be denied.

After an uncharacteristic fumble in the red zone, the senior running back bounced back with a late touchdown that helped UCF beat Cincinnati, 25-21.

"Obviously you can't have mistakes like that," Bowser said. "Especially with the field position we were in. That won't happen again. It felt good to come back and get a touchdown to help the team out after I did that."

Then it was his teammate R.J. Harvey that was able to score the go-ahead score that was the game winner. Harvey missed all of last season with a knee injury.

"Last year I saw firsthand," Bowser said. "He went through a lot. I've been there too with injuries. I know what it's like. As you can see, R.J. came back hungry this year. He made plays. In the game of the year, scoring the game-winning touchdown. That's incredible. I'm happy for him. I know everybody else on the team is happy for him."

Bowser doesn't really see a different offense when Mikey Keene is in at quarterback. What impressed him most about Keene's clutch performance?

"Mikey came in balling. From the time he came in to the last drive of the game, he was making good throws for us. Making good reads. He stepped up in the big time for us. What I liked most about the game from Mikey is how he came out in the final drive of the game. He knew he was going to go down there and win. There was no doubt and that's what he did."

He loved the energy from the Bounce House crowd.

"It was amazing. It was probably the best atmosphere I've felt since I've been here."

As for Memphis, Bowser said their defense has done well against the run. They rank No. 3 in the American limiting opposing offenses to 126.6 yards per game. Their passing defense though is the worst in the conference (283.5 ypg).

"They're a solid team. I think it's going to be a fun game for us."

What needs to be different when UCF goes back on the road?

"It's all about preparation," Bowser said. "It's a mentality. We know what happened at ECU and how we practiced that week. We've got to up our game. It starts with the leaders on the team, me included. We're going to lock in even more at practice this week to make sure this doesn't happen again."

From here on out, the path is simple. Win the rest of the games and they'll be in the conference championship game.

"We knew we had no more room for error," Bowser said. "Our approach going into Cincinnati was very high and I think it's going to continue the rest of the season. Everybody wants to win. Whatever it takes, everybody is going to be on board to do that."

His favorite Halloween costume? Bowser loves the Ninja Turtles so he definitely remembers that one.

Favorite candy? He likes Sour Patch Kids or Kit Kat. If he had to pick one, Sour Patch Kids.

***Former South Florida starting QB Timmy McClain transfers to UCF***

Some major recruiting/transfer news...

The rumors are indeed true. UCF is on the verge of landing former usf quarterback Timmy McClain. The former Sanford Seminole product is on campus and finalizing plans to enroll.

He is a definite REDSHIRT this season. He knows the situation. As one source just told me, "UCF just added the best scout team quarterback in the nation."

UCF's current quarterbacks have been made aware of the forthcoming addition.

Even though he can't play, the final War on I-4 just got a lot more interesting. 🍿

Bill Connelly - CFB Week 9: Playoff chances, conference races, Heisman watch

American

Conference odds: Cincinnati 49%, UCF 27%, Tulane 22%, Houston 9%, East Carolina 5%, SMU 2%

Biggest remaining games: Houston at SMU (Nov. 5), ECU at Cincinnati (Nov. 11), UCF at Tulane (Nov. 12), SMU at Tulane (Nov. 17), Houston at ECU (Nov. 19), Tulane at Cincinnati (Nov. 26)

Despite Saturday's exciting loss to UCF, Cincinnati remains the overall favorite, thanks in part to the fact that three of the Bearcats' final four regular-season AAC games are at home. Tulane has two big games at home, too, and they're made even bigger by the end-of-season trip to Cincinnati. Meanwhile, the other primary favorite, UCF, has played its worst and best games of the year in the last two weeks. The Knights could either catch fire or fall apart; neither would be a complete surprise. (The former is more likely than the latter, however.)
