SCOTUS turns away challenge on Bump Stocks (again)

Both the Trump-era ATF (and Trump himself) as well as the NRA supported a ban on 'Bump Stocks,' which took effect in 2018. The NSSF (the actual gun manufacturer lobby) and others, like the USCCA (the #1 concealed carry insurance provider, and responsible for most newer gun rights laws) called for a review by the ATF at the time of the 2017 Vegas shoiting as well.

Regardless of how people feel about this, I don't see the SCOTUS taking on a state/local 'bump stock' ban law, unless the law makes no provisions for the disabled. Yes, I know, a lot of people are ignorant of bump stocks and how they do not, in fact, turn semi-auto rifles into fully automatic assault rifles, but ... from a legal standpoint, there is little requirement for them ... unless someone is actually disabled. And many laws have provisions for the disabled.

Brett Yormark with a public reprimand of TCU

In accordance with the Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued a public reprimand and $50,000 fine of TCU for the field storming incident that occurred at the conclusion of Saturday’s game against Oklahoma.

“Ensuring a safe environment for all players, coaches, officials and support staff is paramount,” said Big 12 Conference Commissioner Brett Yormark. “Although well intended, the TCU event management policy did not provide for the protection of all game participants. There is no tolerance for any act that compromises safety, and it is the responsibility of home game management to deliver security measures so the visiting team and game officials can safely exit the field.”

City of Orlando under water usage advisory due to sanitary sewer damage

Due to sanitary sewer damage from the Hurricane Ian, the City of Orlando is issuing an immediate water usage advisory as wastewater staff are conducting emergency repairs to return sewer service.
At approximately 2 a.m., city Lift Stations 1, 2, and 3 were impacted after a 36-inch force main break causing an overflow of sewage in the surrounding lakes and streets. Residents should avoid using lakes, including contact with standing water or use of any watercrafts in the surrounding lakes and streets.
All residents and businesses should severely limit water usage until further notice.
This includes refraining from the following as much as possible:

  • Flushing toilets
  • Doing laundry
  • Washing dishes
  • Taking showers/baths
  • Using irrigation systems
This is not a boil water notice.
Additional water usage like this will continue to put more pressure on systems already over capacity and lead to additional sewage overflows. While treatment plants are still operational and producing reusable water, the volume of inflows from the collections system continues to overwhelm the treatment plants. It is critical for residents and businesses to decrease water usage in order for lift station operators to repair the system and pump out the increased water to divert the overflow to discharge areas.

There's also an article from WESH with some really nasty video footage, and a good reminder why not to go swimming or wading in lakes or ponds

More classic UCF games....

I have three more classic UCF games posted:

UCF vs. Troy State (1988): This a partial recording of the 1988 Troy State/UCF game. Not many UCF games were televised back then and even fewer have survived. This is the "Noise Penalty" game in which the crowd of 30K+ was penalized for being "too loud".

UCF vs. Southern Connecticut (1988): Before the "Civil Conflict", there was this game from 1988 on Homecoming Weekend.

UCF Knights @ Alabama Crimson Tide (2000): This is the infamous UCF win in Tuscaloosa from back in 2000 that has been a focal point in UCF's five year ongoing troll job of the Tide, the SEC, and college football as a whole.

OT: Do Floridians go back to normal too quickly after a hurricane?

With the massive devastation around the state and people’s lives ruined and some lost, is it wrong for those people barely affected or not affected by a hurricane of Ian’s magnitude to back to normal life or entertain themselves a couple days later? Even in areas with severe damage in places? After being cooped up at home for 5 days, my wife and I took our kids to Legoland, yesterday. We were affected, but not severely. The kids were bouncing off the walls, so we needed to get out of the house. Some I know went to Disney yesterday and saw that MK filled its park reservations. A few days ago, Tampa was looking like a direct hit, but tonight 65k will be attending a Bucs game. Is it disrespectful to go have fun while so many in your own area are suffering, just because you can?

I saw on Twitter where people were upset that parks like Disney and Legoland were opening too soon. That Disney should stay closed a bit longer and the NFL should have moved back the Bucs game, out of respect to those still severely affected. I was called a monster and evil for saying there was nothing wrong with that. I’m guessing most are going thru their first hurricane or just moved to FL or watching from afar. I have lived in FL my whole life between Orlando and Tampa/St. Pete. I’ve been thru my fair share of hurricanes. It really shocks some people how quickly we go back to normal life after a hurricane. I’ve never thought about it being any other way. Is it too soon? For me, it’s just how it’s always been, here. We don’t really sit at home and sulk about the devistation. Doesn’t mean we are heartless, but life goes on. Always has here, to me. People need to get out and escape or just keep their minds off the troubles a bit.

UCF coach to Colorado?

Colorado fired Karl Dorrell today after their 0-5 start. This was his third season in Boulder. They were 4-2 in the abbreviated season of 2020, then went 4-8 in 2021 and 0-5 this year and four consecutive 25+ point losses.

Just repeating something I heard years ago... maybe @UCF_Video can correct me on the year if I'm incorrect, but Colorado was very interested in George O'Leary at one time. I think it was following the 2005 season when Gary Barnett was forced to resign, the job that ultimately went to Dan Hawkins at Boise State. Unless it was post-2010 when Hawkins was canned and they ended up hiring Jon Embree?

Anyway, GOL told them, "Thanks, but no thanks."
