UCF offensive lineman Sam Jackson has high expectations for his final season.

The starting left guard and sixth-year player appeared at Monday's press conference, just three days before the Knights open the 2022 season against South Carolina State.

"I'm ecstatic," Jackson said about the start of the season. "I love playing football. This is about the time when you're ready to hit somebody else. I'm happy for that."

UCF will start a pair of transfers at the offensive tackle positions: Tylan Grable (Jacksonville State) and Ryan Swoboda (Virginia).

"They've been really good," Jackson said. "They clicked instantly with the unit. Same thing with all our guys. They've done a really good job. They've worked their tails off to get in the position they're in right now."

Another transfer, Cam Kinnie (Georgia) will back up Jackson at left guard.

"Cam Kinnie is a great player," Jackson said. "He's going to be a good addition for our unit. He came in with the mindset of playing. He practiced just like that. He's done everything right. He's gotten better within our offense. He's done a great job all around. He'll definitely help us out throughout the season.

What part of John Rhys Plumlee's game is he most excited to see?

"I love to see his legs," Jackson said. "He's a really good runner. He's also an excellent passer. Just be himself. He doesn't need to do anything more than that. He's a very dynamic player and I think we're going to see that on Thursday."

He has high expectations for the offense.

"I hope it's as explosive as we've ever been," Jackson said. "We could be the top offense in the country if we do what we're supposed to do."

He said it's the "ultimate goal" to win the American Athletic Conference Championship. That's why he came back for a sixth year.

Jackson is the last remaining member of UCF's 2017 scholarship recruiting class, which was recruited by Scott Frost. He was a true freshman during Frost's final season in Orlando in which the team went undefeated.

I asked Jackson if he watched the Nebraska-Northwestern game and whether he was surprised Frost has struggled since leaving UCF.

"I know he's a great coach," Jackson said. "I know he was trying to be aggressive. Some things may not click as well as they did down here, up there. You know, I wish nothing but the best. I hope he wins the rest of his games."

Merge w gripe thread

From the week building up throughout the game it was just meh. Not sure what to pin it on but I have felt a giant shift in atmosphere under the. terry M regime.. stop calling him T Mo it’s lame and so is h

props to the anthem singer he tried to pump
Up the crowd

music seemed like it was on random shuffle from someone’s iPod 1

Props to the defense- we aren’t 90s Bucs level but we have a defense that can hold up. Need a couple more big boys to get pressure

montalvo was our only big body that moved their line. Barber was active the whole night.

Jonny Richardson is so fun to watch. The most exciting back I can remember at UCF. He can make something out of nothing. We could have run him as primary once we realized between the tackles wasn’t an option. (By 2nd quarter)

Plumlee ha a strong skill set for Gus’ offense and made a lot plays when we needed them. Dramatically falls off when he he starts scanning the field. Stacked box or not our coaches get the blame for letting JRP throw 1v1s all night. They stack the box we need move the pocket or run more outside of the tackles and misdirection. We let them off the hook big time but being so rigid

biggest miss: Gus continues to get too cute in play calling. We run the ball so we’ll then we throw on first and and second and get behind the chains. we left a lot of points on the board in the first hall

we stayed behind down and distance . several were good runs for a 1st down then two wasted incomplete passes. Stick with the run when we get momentum

For a revenge game it felt like I was watching is vs UAB in GOL years. We should never go 2.5 quarters with less than 30 yards. We have so much talent it’s not trending positive for Gus
