AAC expert (CBS) picks 2022

Most overrated team

UCF: I love Gus Malzahn, and I love what George O'Leary, Scott Frost and Josh Heupel did before him -- with the program. But the AAC has gotten deeper. UCF doesn't have the soldiers to keep up this season (get back to me when the Knights go to the Big 12), while Cincinnati and Houston are simply too good. -- Dennis Dodd (also Shehan Jeyarajah, Jerry Palm)

Most underrated team

USF: There's this notion out there that the Bulls are due for another dreadful season after a 2-10 record under Jeff Scott last year. Don't fall into that trap. The Bulls return 19 starters, including five on the offensive line and their entire back seven on defense. Gerry Bohanon, who helped lead Baylor to the Big 12 title last year, transferred in to take over the quarterback duties. Is USF going to win the AAC? Probably not, but don't be surprised if it has a big say on who does. -- Sallee

***CB Brandon Adams: 'We've got dogs on defense' ⚔🏈

UCF cornerbacks coach Addison Williams said earlier this camp they feel like they have three starters at corner: Davonte Brown, Corey Thornton and Brandon Adams.

Brown and Thornton bring the experience having been starters since 2020. Adams was the newcomer to the group last season, a true freshman who earned his way into the rotation and ended up making six starts.

We caught up with Adams following Saturday's practice.

Best games on Aug 27:

LOOKING at SEPT 1st it looks like UCF was squeezed out of national television as the coverage will be ESPN +, But they don't have any games listed for ESPN 2 so maybe there is still hope for national coverage.

FAU Tix?

Hello fellow Knights fans. For those planning to go to the @ FAU game, how is everyone planning to buy their tix? The seating assignment given to UCF by FAU is atrocious (119/219– crappy end zone sections). What will be the best way to get single game tix? FAU? StubHub?

Is FAU planning to fleece fans by forcing them into purchasing season tickets to get access to a ticket to the UCF game (as FIU did a few years ago)? Dad and I are also going to ECU; and those seat assignments are even worse. But I doubt it’ll be difficult to get good single game tix to that game.

Any direction is appreciated. GKCO!

The QB competition going into the first scrimmage...

This isn't the opinion of Gus Malzahn or Chip Lindsey, and there are a lot of variables that go into making a QB decision. It's also still fairly early with just five practices so far.

But after giving it a few days and asking a few people with knowledge of practices, I asked them who they thought was ahead, and everybody has said Mikey Keene.

He's been more accurate passing the football, knows where to go with the play and makes quick decisions. JRP less so.

Of course, Sunday is the first scrimmage. There is a second scrimmage next Saturday which I believe is open to Shareholders. Gus has said he'd like to name a starter following the two scrimmages, but has also said the time frame could be fluid. He says usually there's a point when the team "knows" who the best QB is, so it's pretty easy to name a starter at that point.

Knowing JRP's athleticism and elite running ability, you'd love for the other parts of his game to catch up. He would be unstoppable. It should also be stated that practices somewhat limit JRP since QBs usually aren't "live." It's hard for him to show off his speed when the play is being blown dead because a DL got within a few feet of him.

In Mikey's case, with the offensive talent UCF has at all positions, all that is needed is a QB that is going to be smart with the ball, makes good decisions and gets into the hands of playmakers. Mikey can definitely do that.

Hopefully we'll hear some chatter following the scrimmage.

Mack is still in the running to be the starting QB

On a day of naming our starting QB, Mack still could become the starter even though he had an subpar year and was clearly outplayed
