REPORT: Does UCF need to go to Space to beat Arizona?

The UCF Knights turn into the Citronauts this week as they welcome the Arizona Wildcats to Orlando for the annual Space Game. The Knights are in a tailspin after their fifth straight loss, but, if there is any glimmer of hope, it is that they have never lost a game wearing their space themed uniforms. However, Head Coach Gus Malzahn knows it is going to take more than laundry to win this one.

TCU VS UCF

TCU struggled in its first two years of being in the BIG 12, but quicky brought back the success they had in the MWC. Unfortunately for us, Gus couldn't even win more than 9 games or a conference championship in the AAC. I have no faith that he can turn this around next year. Gus needs to Hop back on his Bus and head back to Arkansas!!!

***Four-star safety Antonio Kite visits UCF: 'I felt at home'***

Antonio Kite, a four-star safety from Anniston, Ala., says his weekend official visit to UCF really opened his eyes.

"This was my first time in Florida actually," Kite said on Sunday evening. "Everything was big and wonderful."

Kite said he liked everything, but what stood out the most was the connection with he forged with the coaches. He spent a lot of time with co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach David Gibbs.

"We actually didn't really talk too much football," Kite said. "I think he would want me to come in and play safety and be that ballhawk that I am... He's awesome. He's cool, like a father figure to me. He's always keeping it real."

Defensive coordinator Travis Williams also made a big impression.

"I felt like we clicked right away," Kite said. "He showed a couple clips of how he stuck with his players through their situations. He always had their back. That was great. Coach T-Will is a great coach. I feel like he really cares about you, along with the whole staff."

It was also an honor to meet head coach Gus Malzahn.

"It was great," Kite said. "Me and him were talking a lot. I think he liked me. It was crazy seeing him in person. I'd never seen him in person, just remember seeing him on TV and talking on the phone. We talked a lot the entire weekend, especially during the meals. He was telling a lot of jokes and stuff.

"All those guys, they're all just good people. I felt at home. I feel like I can chill there and put my feet up. They keep it real. They're really upfront and they truly care about their players."

His player host was Jaiden Francois and he also hung out with Divaad Wilson, who was hosting fellow visitor Isaac Thompson.

"They showed us a great time," Kite said.

Kite officially visited South Carolina last weekend and will be at Tennessee this final weekend of June. Alabama remains in the prominent mix as well.

"All the schools stand out," he said. "It's going to be a hard decision."

For now, Kite plans to be patient when it comes to making a commitment. He thinks he'll use his final two visits for later this fall.

"I'm not really worried about the academics because these are all top schools," Kite said. "I'm looking for somewhere I can feel at home and somebody that will have my back even when I'm not playing football."

Fascinating story on Pitt's turnaround: Firing assistants, cleaning house on the roster and changing NIL

Blueprint for Gus?

==

PITTSBURGH — Last winter, removed from the worst season in his head coaching career, frustrated by his offense’s performance and steaming over his players’ attitudes, Pat Narduzzi addressed the problems in his typical manner: painfully direct and brutally honest.

Narduzzi fired nearly his entire offensive coaching staff, completely altered the distribution of NIL cash to his team, and, lastly, opened the exit door for a few players who were seeking more money when they had not necessarily earned it.

“I said, ‘S***, I have to clean house,’” Narduzzi said from his office Tuesday.

Eleven months after those house-cleaning decisions, the Pitt Panthers are in the midst of one of college football’s greatest turnarounds — from 3-9 last season to 7-0 this season.

They are off to the best start in the program in more than 40 years, have one of the nation’s highest-scoring offenses and have flashed their invincibility with a pair of double-digit, fourth-quarter comebacks. They are using a new-fangled offense brought from the FCS level, are playing a new quarterback they got from Alabama and have a rebuilt defense thriving despite the departure of a handful of starters.

But perhaps most interesting of all, the school’s NIL collective, in conjunction with Narduzzi, made the offseason decision to overhaul the distribution structure on the team — from paying each player in a tiered system to paying select players who earn it.

“We won three games and had a structure where everyone was getting paid and that didn’t work for us. So, we changed it,” said Chris Bickell, a tech entrepreneur and Pitt booster who not only founded the school’s collective, Alliance 412, but donated $20 million of his own money to the football program in 2021.

“You have to be hungry,” Bickell continued. “If you want sponsorships and want to be paid like a professional, you have to earn it. This team is hungry.”

UCF Women Hoops 107, Edward Waters Univ 56

Only exhibition game of the season.

Women open up at home next Tues vs Iona and then a HUGE game vs Marquette on Thursday night.

Most new players this year...lots of size....more strength. True Freshmen Emely Rodriguez from the DR is a beast (had at least 26 pts).

Gusters is a BIG Center and is well traveled. Baylor to LSU to Oklahoma State to UCF as a Grad. Probably had 13 or 14 pts.

Stedman from Miami played well...and even the new French Player, Castagne, while I don't think she scored...had great presence at the point and played a tenacious D on the full court press that lead to turnovers and buckets.

EWU was smaller so UCF focus on the post game. Don't think UCF shot a high volume of 3s (maybe 20 total?).

NOTE: Last year, weeknight games were at a weird time (6 pm...hard to get to the game for some families) but this year, all those games will be at 7 pm.

Nothing groundbreaking, except he seems willing to do injury reports.

Hear me out - Changing head coaches every 3 or four years can be POSITIVE!

I’m thinking this is our culture. Who cares if we have a Scott Frost or Heupel move on after having success and exciting offenses? Look wheee we are now.

UCF would certainly love to have a “forever coach” who stays and keeps winning, building a consistent legacy of success. However, our history of attracting up-and-coming coaching talent every few years is also a valuable strength that contributes to our program’s unique identity and momentum. When a successful coach moves on to a high-profile position elsewhere, it’s a testament to the strength and reputation of UCF as a launching pad for rising stars in the coaching world. This not only attracts ambitious, skilled coaches who want to make their mark here, but it also enhances our national profile as a program where talent thrives and gains recognition.

Young, innovative coaches often bring fresh energy, adaptability, and modern tactics that keep our program dynamic and responsive to changes in the game. Each coach builds on the foundation laid by their predecessor while adding new ideas, creating a steady cycle of growth that attracts top recruits who want to play for a forward-thinking, exciting program.

Ultimately, while having a long-term coach is ideal, UCF’s proven ability to launch coaches to powerhouse programs speaks volumes about our culture and the quality of our football program. It allows us to continually attract fresh talent, strengthen our winning culture, and keep pushing the program forward—showing that UCF is a destination where champions are made.

Let’s go back to that. No?

Has UCF ever looked at using the 'stacked' UCF for university use?

Scrolling through Twitter and noticed that FSU's university account was now using their athletic brand/font for official use. Sure enough it looks like they just did it last month per this article. I think Miami, Auburn and some others have done the same recently too. The contrast in the academic and athletic branding at UCF has always been clunky with the different golds, etc. it's hilarious with the banners they have on Alafaya and University, it looks like two completely different entities
