Went to Busch gardens

Fun story….

Went to Busch Gardens today…

Had 3 people congratulate me on the UCF win (was wearing a UCF hat)…

My response…

“Thanks. We had a pretty down year so it was nice to end it all on a fun in-state game. At the end of the day, we don’t care too much about it other than for checking Gator ego.”

Turns out one of the guys was a gator and said “that answer is why I have a feeling UCF is the real deal.”

Gasparilla Bowl merchandise

Count me surprised that Fanatics had ZERO merch available before or after the game. I felt like you used to see bowl victory t-shirts in years past, but nothing this year. I saw one of the merch tents near the south end zone prior to the game. It had a really long line, but I was able to take a few photos of the offerings. It appears some of these items are available on the Gasparilla Bowl website.

Names to watch for co-oc/qb coach

Thought we should make a list of possible successors now that Kinnie is thankfully gone.

Keegan McDaniel- Mizzou analyst. Only 27 and on 247’s 30 under 30 list for 2021. Played for Gus at Arkansas State and has connections to Terry as well. Would be a home run hire. My choice and hope. Basically t-will but for offense.

Barry Lunney Jr- utsa oc. Has connections to Gus through his time as a Arkansas hs coach. Great recruiter at arkas and had to deal with 5 different qbs in 2020. Could poach because we are in big 12.

Keenan Bailey- osu analyst. Pipe dream, but is considered to be the next big thing like McDaniel. No connections to Gus.

Darrin Hinshaw - UCF analyst. Most likely option. Would keep the status quo on offense for better or worse. Might be a sentimental choice, but was mediocre at Kentucky.

Trey Holtz- wr coach at la tech. Skip’s son, but both Urban Meyer and Ryan Day were enthusiastic with praise when he was at osu and worked with qbs.

Billy Gonzales- UF WR coach. Has oc experience, knows Gus well, solid recruiter. Would lock up Emory Jones coming here.

Herb Hand - UCF Oline vs uf

He is posting some oline highlights from the game on his twitter today. Really cool and interesting to see since during the game most of us aren't paying attention to the oline. Love when coaches take time to show details like this that we would normally not see. Check these out, great work by the oline in that game.

Top Ten Dungeon Stories of 2021

I thought about all the times I visited this board in 2021 and the stories impacting me the most. I can't remember a more tragic and delightful year.

Top Ten Dungeon Stories of 2021

#10 Quan Lee- Love him or not, the kid certainly has made himself known to the fans. I think he’s going to show us the Quan in the coming years.

#9 Everything Covid-Let’s hope it effectively ends in 2022.

#8 Portal Impacts- Big Kat, Brandon Johnson, and Bowser lead portal enhanced squads.

#7 UCF Beats UF- Gators, we aren’t in Kansas anymore.

#6 UCF Overtakes USF- It’s done, the better program has won.

#5 DG Gets Injured, Transfers- A promising season gets cut short, DG ends his career not looking like a good guy.

#4 Gus Bus-The Feb 15 announcement leads to high hopes and expectations.

#3 UCF To Big 12- Arguably the biggest news for UCF sports ever. It’s finally happened, we are big time.

#2 Passing of SCK- A complete shock and possibly avoidable. A poster that will definitely be missed.

#1 Death of 2- Tragic, and forever impactful. No words can describe.

Garrett Gabriel on son Dillon’s decision to transfer from UCF

QB wants a place ‘better suited for him’

According to his father, Dillon Gabriel’s decision to leave the UCF football program and enter the NCAA Transfer Portal wasn’t an easy one.

“It was a tough decision,” Garrett Gabriel told The Orlando Sentinel on Saturday afternoon, after the junior quarterback made the announcement via his social media accounts. “But he wants to explore opportunities with a program that’s better suited for him.”

According to Garrett, his son’s decision to transfer might have come as a shock, but it was something he considered for quite some time. After consulting with his family, he decided to make a move, telling coach Gus Malzahn early Saturday afternoon. Gabriel worked tirelessly to return, but he also used this time away from the field to evaluate his future with the Knights. “He was thinking about it all through his injury and watching over the past six, seven or eight games he didn’t play,” his father said.

I don't want this rivalry to end

Yeah, the game was closer than anybody would have liked and it would have been great to 64-12 those guys at some point, and this is obviously 100% influenced by the outcome, but tonight was a lot of fun. Awesome atmosphere, especially at the end.

Still a good season for UCF, but nothing really on the line and the place was packed on Thanksgiving weekend. It wasn't that long ago Thanksgiving weekend was a death knell for attendance. Sure, student support could have been a smidge better but you can't fault any kids for going home and not being able to make it back.

UCF hasn't had to travel out of state for a Thanksgiving weekend game since 2010 (Memphis). 2011-12 were home games and every game since 2013 has obviously been the War on I-4 in Orlando or Tampa.

I'm just not sure I see a Thanksgiving weekend game against Kansas State or Iowa State resonating the same, but maybe I'm wrong. Not really looking forward to a potential late November road game in a cold-weather climate either.

I may be in the minority since a lot of you guys want to leave usf in the dust, but I'll miss it.

Was this win bigger than the Fiesta Bowl win

I may be in the minority but I may put this win ahead of the win over Baylor.

The 2013 game was the culmination of a better season, by a better team, on a bigger stage nationally. Perhaps if GOL retired that night, it would be remembered as a glorious ending of the GOL era. But outside of Orlando, that game was quickly forgotten nationally.

Depending on how Gus parlays this victory and our move to the Big 12, this win could have longer legs. It surely provides bragging rights in Florida for years to come.

And People Think We’re Somehow Different…

https://amp.tallahassee.com/amp/86287910

Ran across this today. Didn’t even remember it (because it is so ridiculous). I’m sure I just laughed it off because who cares anyways. Some other school can do whatever they want to do.

We win our 2013 Fiesta Bowl and have a parade at Disney….nobody notices. Nobody cares. We win the Peach Bowl in 2017, claim a Natty and have the same parade….and all of a sudden people act like we did something different. We didn’t. We celebrated the success on the field.

Us claiming a Natty is no different than dozens of other schools claiming titles. Why? Because those are the rules and if the NCAA wants to change them, they are free to do so anytime they want to. Until then, people can deny whatever they want but it can never be taken away.

Just saying the haters are always hating on us because they don’t like the fact we are the new kid on the block but they have all done the same kind of things they say we do and nobody threw a hissy-fit when they did it. At least we didn’t make up some self-proclaimed, one-off trophy/ring/award that none of the other parties signed up to. In the end, if we keep winning it won’t matter what anybody thinks. It will just be self-evident that we belong (and get the respect that goes along with it).
