On June 1, the floodgates opened to allow in-person recruiting for the first time in 15 months. UCF's first visitor was Orlando (Fla.) Timber Creek offensive tackle T.J. Shanahan, rated by Rivals.com as the No. 50 overall prospect in the 2023 class.

The day obviously included a facility tour and learning more about the program, but the best part for Shanahan was building on his relationship with Herb Hand, UCF's offensive line coach.

"It was a great visit," Shanahan said. "Coach (Herb) Hand and I talked a lot. He's a great guy. The visit was awesome. I met a lot of new faces. But one thing I can say is it was great to finally meet Coach Hand and shake his hand. I've been talking to him on the phone a lot, so it was good to see him in person."

Shanahan learned what it would be like to play on Hand's offensive line.

"Coach Hand had a little slideshow that showed everything about his life and how he coaches, all the accomplishments that he's had. He's coached a lot of great players at Auburn, Texas, Tulsa, a bunch of schools."

Another highlight was getting to put on the uniform.

"Walking out into UCF's stadium with the gear on was awesome," Shanahan said. "Just being there with Coach Hand and the UCF crew was awesome."

Shanahan wasn't able to connect with Gus Malzahn in person on this visit, but did catch up with via FaceTime.

"I've had a lot of conversations with Coach Malzahn," Shanahan said. "I can tell he's a great guy. And based on watching him coach, I know he's going to get the UCF program rolling."

Being local, Shanahan knows he didn't need to fit everything into this one day. He'll be back for other visits and possibly for some games this fall.

"I really appreciated how everyone at UCF treated me," Shanahan said. "It felt like home. It's right down the street. It was my first ever visit and they made it real special. I'll be there again soon."

Shanahan visited Florida on Wednesday and later this week he'll be flying across the country to embark on a multi-state tour with visits planned to Oregon, Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Texas, Texas A&M and TCU. He's hoping to find time to squeeze in a visit to Ohio State and North Carolina as well.

As a 2023 prospect, Shanahan knows he has plenty of time to make a decision.

"I don't think I'm going to be making a commitment any time soon," he said. "I'll probably do it before my early signing day or right before my senior year. I want to take the most time that I can to make the best decision for myself to succeed at the next level."

OT: Allegiant adding non-stop service from TPA to Clarksburg, WV

Another potential flight option for those road matchups against WVU. Allegiant is adding non-stop service from TPA to Clarksburg, WV (CKB) beginning this upcoming March. Clarksburg is about 45 minutes southwest of Morgantown. It looks like the route will run on Fridays and Mondays, so it could be convenient for weekend football matchups.

The primary airport destination for trips to Morgantown is Pittsburgh International (PIT) which is about 1.25-1.5 hours north of Morgantown. Obviously PIT will provide the greatest flexibility, but it's good to know there's another option that happens to be a little closer.

For anyone concerned because it's Allegiant (I was a long-time skeptic): Allegiant has been modernizing its fleet over the past few years and was recently awarded a top safety rating of 7⭐ by AirlineRatings.com.

WOT: Oklahoma Senator Proposes New Bill

Our leaders in government using their time and power for the good of everyone:

Oklahoma Senator Proposes New Bill

"Senator Bill Coleman of Ponca City proposed a bill on Tuesday that would rename 3 inches of a westbound lane of State Highway 325 in the panhandle as "Lincoln Riley Highway."

"I found the tiniest section of our most desolate of highways to pay tribute to Coach Riley's exit from Oklahoma football and the state. This is only fitting as this is the last three inches one sees before leaving our great state heading west."

Don't these people have anything better to do?

OT: Help Requested With Sports Streaming Services / Smart TVs.

Asking for help in here, as you are my biggest and most diverse network of sports fans I can reach out to…

OK, here is my issue. This year I moved into a condo tower in Flagler Beach. The hard cable line is provided through the HOA, and it is a low-cost, low service solution. In the building, we do NOT have the option to change cable providers. One of my two TVs is pulling that line so that I can get local channels, and a limited number of “sports channels”. My question is, what combination of streaming services do I need to get to maximize my sports coverage?

Here are the sports channels I get through my “Mayberry RFD” cable line, but with or without these, I’d like to get as much coverage through streaming as possible.

Existing channels on cable feed: NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX. (Local Orlando). USA, TBS, TNT, GOLF, ESPN, ESPN2 (Not the other ESPN channels), NBCSN Sports (Possibly going away), FOX Sports 1. Some are high def, some seemingly are not.

Can I install sports-specific apps like NFL Network/Red Zone NBA.TV, NHL.TV, or MLB.TV on my smart TV’s? Am I better just feeding an HDMI cable from a computer into those systems?

The Smart TV with the cable feed is a Sony, and the smart TV without the cable feed is a Samsung.

I currently have Netflix and Hulu, and I know I can get some live sports on Hulu, but I am pretty unclear on what all I can get through ESPN+, Disney+, etc.

In a perfect world, I’d like to be able to stream any NFL game (Bucs fan), NHL game (Lightning fan), MLB game (Marlins fan) and NBA (agnostic) along with PGA, MLS, and of course as much college (UCF) content as possible.

Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.

P.S. If any of you are ever over in Flagler Beach, stop on by for some pool or darts, a nice ocean view, some cool drinks and hopefully some good sports on the TVs! Charge On…

Surviving the insufferable

Hey y'all Happy EARLY Gasparilla Day! Let's have some fun and post some game day tips for surviving the insufferable gator jorts fans . I have been to UF to see UCF play and lose and I have been there to watch FSU play .They are just horrible arrogant fans. Back in the day we weren't anything but a money game .We were not expected to win and they treated us pretty good. I can take playing them and losing but it's going to be rough if we lose leaving the stadium.

what's your advice in dealing the gator fans in a few weeks? you know we are going to get ribbed pretty bad .

So all you guys told me we could never be top 30 to 40 recruiting class

Where you at? Come eat your crow right here. How many 5.7 three stars we have? Pretty sure a few of those are 4* with these offer sheets. And all of these were pretty much in the bag before B12 so don’t give me that.

This is what HEUPEL should of been doing after UNPRECEDENTED momentum was handed to him.
Any struggles we have today is a DIRECT REFLECTION of poor recruiting by the hippo.

Larger RJS Crowd this year? #13 UF vs cow u or unranked UF vs UCF?

Which game will have the larger actual crowd?

  • #13 UF vs cow u

  • Unranked UF vs unranked UCF

Results are only viewable after voting.

Actual turnstile count for this year's #13 UF vs cow u game was just over 54,000. (cow u withholds a lot of tix and just counts them as sold. They "announced" 64,692 but 10,000 are not just going to skip the biggest home game of the year).

Will this bowl game surpass that actual crowd?
