What happened to UCF football?

How did we land an A.D. like Danny White, and a coach like Frost as a G5 school, but now we end up with an A.D. who doesn’t care whether his teams produce or not, and an ancient coach that doesn’t realize the game has passed him by? He could easily remedy that by doing like Saban did and hire young aggressive offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators specifically to do those jobs while he acted as CEO. He’s a great recruiter but isn’t able to coach in today’s college game. Unfortunately, both Terry and Gus will continue to help us become the UConn of the Big XII.

Week 6 Dungeonite Couch Coach: Attention TMo, Gus, Harris—Free coaching

Ok guys. Last week it was a definitive bench KJ for Jacurri or EJ and there were many other suggestions like bench Gus or bench Roof. I am going to share my Couch Coach suggestions. Feel free to have fun or be serious. I’m going serious with a hint of not so serious.

1. Give Brown reps with the 1s . EJ may be better (or not) long term but Brown gets the reps this week.
2. Ditch the white guy fielding punts. As a middle-aged white male I feel this is within my rights to call out a fellow white by his race—especially when he sucks donkey footballs at fielding punts. I forget his name right now but he has given us shitty field position in two straight games.
3. Red zone plays. Steal some , buy some…throw on first down for once. Spend a lot of time with Jacurri and some different red zone plays all together. Between the 20s Jacurri was pretty darn good. Give him more and better outlets. Who knows we might be better than 2-7 in red zone. Weren’t we all excited about some freshman receiver.
4. Defensive roster. Really liking who’s playing the last 6 quarters . Good job on pass rush.
5. Clock management. Please go back and take your continuing education courses here. Tonight it might have cost us the game. Awful.

Those 5 are free Gus and TMo.

Saturday CFB Thread - Big 12 Games 🏈

Big 12

Cincinnati at UCF - 3:30 p.m. (ESPN2)
Arizona at No. 14 BYU - 4 p.m. (FOX)
No. 11 Iowa State at West Virginia - 8 p.m. (FOX)
No. 18 Kansas State at Colorado - 10:15 p.m. (ESPN)

ARIZONA STATE, BYU, CINCINNATI AND COLORADO

All four of these teams are either in their second year in a power conference or in the second year of their head coach. All four of these teams drastically improved in their second year and look miles ahead of UCF.

How is that possible? You could argue out of all these teams UCF has/had more selling points and momentum with recruits and resources than any of these other schools. But yet here we are free falling. At this point I think you can only blame coaching.

I understand we are in a position where we are stuck with Gus at least for next season but there has to be some sort of accountability for what he has done to this program and MAJOR changes should be required out of him this offseason.

Today is my birthday!

So with that in mind, I’d like to reflect momentarily on my contributions (and follies) regarding the advancement of UCFAA/UCF football:

1. Announcing our Big East invitation far and wide. “Folks, the ink is dry.” Remember? 😎

2. Asking Corch Oleary why we had the 78th rated (total) defense and 65th scoring defense live on the air. Unfortunately, it wasn’t well received. It was probably my own fault the coaches show is no longer live. I apologize to all!

3. Facilitating a “cultural renaissance and revival” between disillusioned football letterman and the new coaching staff, if you will. It may be my finest hour.

4. Championing the hiring of Gus Malzahn (and being mocked in the process) in spite of a myopic, group think, tidal wave booster push for Jeff Lebby.

5. Proclaiming Dillion Gabriel would start over Wimbush based on inside information and well connected sources.

So #ChargeOn.*

Advice: Divest emotionally

Fellow dungeonites. I humbly ask for some return kindness on this thread, because I mean this with all sincerity.

I used to get really spun up about UCF football. So much so that I would be in a bad mood after losses, etc. I spent a significant amount of time in the dungeon. Too much time.

After Scott Frost left and then again a year or two later I started to spend less and less time with emotional investment. I wasn’t any less of a fan. I just tried to appreciate UCF football in a different way. After all, so many people including some on here made the program successful and I appreciated that. I just found that I actually enjoyed it much more this way. At our win over the gators, I watched friends stress and pace while I enjoyed myself and my family the entire time. They were so bent out of shape after the loss.

The truth is, some of this is beyond our control.
I did personally send tweets to Gus, Tim, Terry, a few donors, sons of UCF exclaiming that starting KJ was madness. I wasn’t super upset. I just tried to create some effective noise. (Did my part so to speak) Something more productive than 4 hours on here . I spent 5 minutes and went about my day.

Look at how far we have come guys. Remember the days of O’Leary and the seesaw. Look- maybe we are in a down cycle. Look at the gators. Some of them have been miserable since TeBow. Why be that way? We have to be smart with change and the timing of it.

Make your voice heard with Terry for whatever you believe in. My current belief would be to figure out a smooth transition plan after this recruiting class is in. Start figuring out that rising star because we are a mid program and can’t compete for elite and established coaching talent.

Be realistic. We made it to the Big 12 guys. What an accomplishment. However, like any program, we are going to probably have up and downs.
Who should we benchmark? I saw a crazy stat on Utah that they have been top 10 TOP for the last 10 years every year. Someone like Terry needs to decide who we want to be. I personally would like to see us go back to high scoring and UCFast.

I hope others don’t take this as me being condescending. That’s not the vibe from me at all. Clearly we will have some cycles in this program. Overall we have done damn well. Youngest university in the P4.

No reason to be drastic or without calculation. Big donors should think about what our identity should be. Start planning for that. Until then, maybe enjoy watching some young talent on the field. Accept where we are as disappointed as we all are. Put your energy in your life while still enjoying the game win or lose. It makes for much better weekends.

All this said, I love UCF football and making fun of liberals in the dungeon (just kidding). —-> SDK and Jeremy were right . Gus is a mid coach at best.
In my opinion we need to get back to Florida speed. Take care everyone. It could be whole lot worse in so many ways. God bless you all after this terrible storm. These clouds will too pass and someday we will all enjoy a B12 title together.

Its our team win or lose

Yall, it's our team.
It's not our year.. I am not burning my UCF gear or canceling my season tickets.
I am a Knight through and through. If we go to a bowl, great. There is always next year.

I will give it to Gus for benching KJ and going with EJ and Brown. I will give Gus credit for doing it in spite of the challenges of the hurricane. I don't care what anybody says having a big hurricane bearing down can not but impact players some what. Their routine is thrown off plus the anxiety of it all.

I am not a fire the coach person. I am a pragmatic fan. Let Henshaw call the plays. It can't be worse right? I am a Knight win or lose. I seem to always have hope even when it's so hopeless at times. Do I think we can beat Iowa State ? Not really, but you never know.
Go Knights . Charge on!

Musings From The Stadium

Things that were readily apparent inside the stadium today:
- Gus was out coached by mid Scott Satterfield. Cinci’s offense was varied, including innovative play calling, while Gus continues
to stubbornly insist on trying to run the ball 70% of the time behind a mediocre offensive line.

- Did I mention mediocre O-Line? They are just not that good. Keep hearing about Herb Hand being the “ O-Line whisperer” and yet
we get the same mediocre group every year. RJHarvey runs hard and makes our line look better than they are. Have been
exposed the past 3 weeks after early cupcakes.

- Cinci’s TE hurt us all game (8 catches). Our talented TE Randy Pittman not only did not have any catches, he was not even
targeted once. Would not blame him one bit for going into the portal in December. Is criminal the way Gus underutilizes him.
UCF, where Tight Ends go to die.

- Gus simply does not want to throw the football even though rule changes favor teams who do (can’t touch the QB, can’t touch
WR’s, etc. )

- This is year 4 for Gus and we continue to be one of the worst red zone offenses in college football. He’s always talking about
it and never fixes it.

- Our home field advantage is gone. Teams used to fear coming into the Bounce House but those days are over. Gus has
managed to destroy the aura of invincibility our Stadium once had

- The most damaging thing for our football program is now beginning to rear its ugly head, APATHY is settling in. It can be a program killer if left unchecked.

- This was arguably the most winnable game left on our schedule. We are staring 3-9 or 4-8 squarely in the face.

- Gus replaced both coordinators after last season and yet here we are again with same results.

- Lastly, we had 10 penalties AT HOME today, including one that cost a 10 second run off late in the game. This is a sign

of an undisciplined squad, simply no excuse for it.

Otherwise, hope everyone had fun
