ARTICLE: This Week in UCF Baseball - Knights Walk the Dogs/Preview FAU & usf

A perfect second week of the season for the Knights, resulting in 43 runs scored in four victories that included a mid-week victory on Wednesday and a weekend sweep over two teams that made regional brackets last year. Mind you, two of those games ended early [7th inning Friday, Sunday] due to the Knights invoking the run-rule.

A few more small upgrades in service and seats headed to Addition Financial Arena

All Suites are getting NEW Seats to place their original ones that were installed in early 2007. (Should be completed over next few weeks...so should be in place for Commencement Season).

Arena also has brand new floor seats...with much better cushion for any show, event, concert or commencement that uses floor seating.

After the success of the new Grab & Go Self Service Cooler/Concession by 107 (mostly beer and other canned drinks), a few more will be headed to the Arena by next fall.

A new lobby Grab & Go section will be added so you can grab a beer or beverage before you head up to your seat.

PS. For those in the Stadium Club in the Football Stadium...would you like to have a Grab & Go Cooler in your club so you can just grab a quick beer or Gatorade or Water? If so, let me know. :)

RECAP WITH SOUND: UCF Men's Basketball back in the win column, beating #23 Texas Tech 75-61

The UCF Men's basketball team got back into the win column with a 75-61 win over 23rd ranked Texas Tech. The Knights relied on stout defense and timely shot making by Darius Johnson and Jaylin Sellers to propel them to their 5th Big 12 conference win. Coach Johnny Dawkins was pleased with the effort on the defensive end, and wants UCF to carry this momentum onto the road as they look to close out the conference schedule.

WSJ: The amount in circulation has more than doubled in recent years, but $100s are hated by both cashiers and economists

I'm curious how many on this board use hundred dollar bill frequently. I can't even think of the last time I used cash at all. I probably haven't used a $100 bill in a decade or longer.

The $100 bill is far and away the most common U.S. paper currency, dwarfing even the $1 bill. The number of bills bearing Benjamin Franklin’s mug more than doubled between 2012 and 2022, faster growth than any other denomination, according to the most recent Federal Reserve data.

For all its prevalence, the $100 bill is more effective for storing money than spending it. Even when cashiers do accept the bills, they hold up checkout lines to verify they aren’t counterfeits. (Or, at minimum, give an eye-roll along with your change.) Economists have called for slowing down the printing press, due to their use in illicit activity.

“Everyone almost questions you and your legitimacy for using a $100 bill,” said Sage Handley, 23.

Some 60% of all payments are made with debit or credit cards, according to Federal Reserve data. Cash use dropped sharply during the pandemic in 2020, and it hasn’t fully recovered. Today, cash is the third-most used payment method in the U.S. by number of transactions.

While more than half of $100s are held abroad, there were enough in the U.S. for every living American to have 55 in 2022, according to calculations by Kenneth Rogoff, an economics professor at Harvard University.

RECAP WITH SOUND: UCF Knights Baseball walks the dogs in sweep of Samford

The UCF Knights Baseball team completed a weekend sweep of the Samford Bulldogs. The Knights scored 39 runs in the three game series, led by 2B Andrew Estrella and C Andrew Sundean. UCF Head Coach Rich Wallace is encouraged by the play of his team, but knows that it is still early in the season.

Gus Malzahn and the Tranfer Portal

We have seen (here and in another forum) AL1 aka Malzon Acolyte promoting the idea that this off-season has been the best ever for Gus Malzahn. His opinion is greatly shaped by sixteen 3* transfers that are coming in for 2024. Obviously, nobody knows now how good or bad any of the incoming transfers will be at this point.

Let’s take a small dive on Malzon and the transfer portal. GM came in after the high school players for 2021 were signed (18) but he did bring in 10 transfers. In 2022: 16 high school players and 14 transfers. 2023: 15 high school players and 18 transfers. 2024: 18 high school players and 16 transfers.

For his three full classes (2022, 2023 and 2024): 49 high school players and 48 transfers. In total Malzahn has signed 58 transfer portal players.

Out of the 42 (not counting the ones arriving for 2024) transfer players from 2021, 2022 and 2023 nobody has been drafted and only Baker is forecasted to be drafted in 2024.

Now let’s have a look at the same 42 players and we will note that 26 of them have been a total bust or a player that played poorly/did not play.

Andrew Brito
Jordan Johnson
Jarvis Ware
Marco Domio
Mark Anthony-Richards
Nate Craig-Myers
Brandon Johnson
Shawn Paterson Jr
Demarkus Bowman
Branden Jennings
Terrence Lewis
Joey Gatewood
Corey Gammage
Isaiah Paul
Xavier Williams
Rian Davis
Decorian Patterson
Drake Metcalf
Bula Schmidt
Jireh Wilson
Trent Whittemore
Chauncey Magwood
De Jordan Mask
Gage King

Now I ask…how much faith for you have that the 16 three star transfers coming in will work out for UCF?

Whether it’s development or talent evaluation…UCF is falling short of reasonable expectations. It’s all on Gus Malzon…he either floats or sinks this year and it will be based on how his 2024 transfers perform.

Going into his fourth year and bringing 16 three star transfers (that number will grow after the Spring portal window) comes at a price. There are less spots for young high school players. When does Gus Malzon plan to develop and play his own guys? That question should be asked of him.

Nick Saban 'What we have now is not college football'

And there you have it from one of the best.............

"What we have now is not college football — not college football as we know it,” he said. “You hear somebody use the word 'student-athlete.' That doesn't exist."

🏀 Big 12 Basketball Tournament (All-Access Pass) for 2025 and beyond 🏀

https://big12sports.com/feature/all-access-pass#faq

Monday, February 26, 2024

"Today, the Big 12 Conference announced the launch of the Basketball All-Access Pass, a new membership program for fans at the Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship. This membership - which includes a Premium and Priority option - will provide fans the opportunity to purchase the same seat location for the Basketball Championship each year through 2031. The All-Access Pass will only apply to 12% of venue seating, with the remainder being unchanged.

The program will debut for the 2025 Basketball Championship, the Conference's first-ever 16-team tournament that will see Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah make their Championship debut. The All-Access Pass program is being executed in partnership with global premium experiences company Legends.

"We are thrilled to be the home of the best basketball in college athletics. As the Big 12 continues to grow, we are committed to elevating fan experience and access," said Commissioner Yormark. "The Basketball All-Access Pass program provides our fans with a unique opportunity to purchase preferred seats for years to come, as well as exclusive benefits and second-to-none access throughout our Basketball Championships."

In 2023, Legends began conducting a fan survey of 12,000 Big 12 basketball fans, collecting feedback on a variety of elements surrounding the Big 12 Basketball Championship, including ticketing, seating, and fan experience. A key takeaway was fans' desire for more premium seating opportunities, serving as a driving factor in the creation of the All-Access Pass.

Membership will be offered in two tiers - Premium Membership and Priority Membership. Premium Membership will provide access to a floor seat or premium lower level seats each year for all sessions, as well as access to premium clubs. The Priority Membership will provide fans access to premium lower level seats for only the sessions their team is participating in, as well as loaded tickets for concessions."

I know the Garage fans / kirk jerks / the last era of complainers probably can't go to this but for those that would prefer to not bask in on the past but look towards the future, this seems cool.

Really, really good win vs TX Tech

This victory was badly needed. Our D was better, our full court pressure took TX Tech, a really good passing and shooting team, out of their comfort zone and our O played under control. Will this win help us get us a bid to the NIT? Yes, but only if we win a couple more conference games. At least we're playing for something....

RIP Russ Wood

Dude was very cool and nice to all us folks in the Dungeon. Praying for his family and all the victims of the mRNA experiment gone wrong. Same exact thing happened up here with my good buddy Billy. We had to do a wellness check and got the news died in sleep. Another guy I know had heart attack and died after poison jab. So many more that I know with cancers, clotting, dementia and all sorts of problems. Just like CrazyHole, if it's pre-existing? Buckle up, mRNA is going to completely torch whatever is wrong

Turns out, Russ had been battling health issues — including heart problems — for at least a couple of years. Because he was unmarried with no children, no one was made immediately known of his death.

A legend has passed - R.I.P. Kimmy Trivett, Forever a Knight

On the Mt. Rushmore of UCF superfans sits Kimmy Trivett! A mother to many of us in the late 90s early 00s who were around the program. She would be the first one in the stadium/arena for games, home and away.

Unfortunately her health had deteriorated over the past few years and she no longer attended games. Many of the younger generation don’t know her, but for those of us that did, she made a huge impact.

Here’s to you Mrs. Trivett!
