***UCF Coaching news to watch***

This shouldn't come as a major surprise, but there is buzz circulating that new Auburn coach Hugh Freeze is targeting UCF WR coach Grant Heard to be on the new Tigers staff.

Heard and Freeze have longstanding ties, dating back to when the pair coached at Arkansas State and he joined Freeze at Ole Miss for the entire tenure (2012-16).

I am also curious about S.J. Tuohy, who heads up football ops. He left Freeze's Liberty staff to come to UCF. The Tuohy family and Hugh Freeze are very close, dating back to when S.J. father and Freeze were youth coaches at Briarcrest HS in Memphis. S.J.'s parents were even in attendance at Freeze's press conference at Auburn earlier this week. I haven't heard anything specifically, but I wouldn't be surprised if S.J. has an opportunity to join a Freeze Auburn staff on the administrative side.

***Dylan Rizk meets with Gus Malzahn, excited to sign with UCF (video too)***

UCF quarterback commit Dylan Rizk is counting down the days until he officially becomes a Knight.

That's about two more weeks, Dec. 21, the early signing day for college football. On Monday night, the Cardinal Gibbons star was visited by UCF head coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.

"They were here for over two hours talking about football with me and my family," Rizk said. "My mom prepared a great meal for them. Some pasta, chicken parm. Nice food... They stayed over pretty late. I didn't want them to leave. Great time. We talked about football and really got to connect. I learned about Coach Gus' full background, about his days at Auburn, Arkansas and Tulsa. He told me everything. It was really great to learn about your head coach that you'll have for the next four to five years."

Malzahn and Lindsey think he'll be a perfect fit for the offense too.

"We all know the offense at UCF is better for more of a running and throwing quarterback," Rizk said. "They told me they love my speed and love my ability to throw. They love everything. They can't wait for me to get up there and do my thing. I wish I could early enroll."

2023 will be an exciting year as it will be UCF's first season playing in the Big 12.

"Coach Malzahn gave me some insight and it's going to be an insane, awesome schedule," Rizk said. "It's like nothing UCF has ever seen before. It's like I'm coming in at the perfect time. Coach Gus even told me that. Everything is really getting going now. UCF is the future of college football. We're getting a new level of respect, going to a Power Five conference. We'll get the respect when we beat those big-time teams and I know we will because we're UCF and we're the best."

His official visit was this past June for Bounce House Weekend.

"John Rhys Plumlee was my host for the official visit," Rizk said. "He's a really nice guy. I've been staying in touch with him. He's been in college football a long time so it'll be good to learn under a guy who has a lot of experience. I was really hoping he was staying because I'm really looking forward to learning under him."

Rizk attended a pair of UCF home games this season - Georgia Tech and Navy. He's gotten to know a few of his fellow commits, especially Troy Ford Jr. and Johnathan Cline.

He would love to be an early enrollee and report next month, but that option is not available at his school. He does plan to get to UCF in late May following his graduation.

Rizk won a state championship as a junior, but Cardinal Gibbons was upended by American Heritage in their quest for another.

"It was still a great season," Rizk said. "We started off really well. We went 11-2 and lost to the same team twice. They were a really good team. Really talented."

As a senior, Rizk completed 64 percent of his passes (174 of 272) for 1,987 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He carried the ball 47 times for 323 yards and five more scores.

"I'm always trying to improve my game," Rizk said. "I think I've grown each year in high school and definitely from my junior to senior year. We have a lot of great coaches at Cardinal Gibbons that have taught me how to be a good quarterback and a good leader. Being a good quarterback isn't just on the field. I learned a lot of things that I'll take with me to UCF."

Rizk has followed in the footsteps of his two older brothers. Raymond, who is the oldest, played quarterback at FAU. Middle brother Ryan played at Miami.

"It's funny because we're going to different Florida schools," Rizk said. "I remember my brother Ryan showing me videos back when I was 10 years old throwing a football. They've been behind me since day one."

Asked which quarterbacks he likes to watch, Rizk said he's a big fan of USC's Caleb Williams.

"He's probably my favorite," Rizk said. "I think he's awesome."

In fact, Rizk said he's probably more of a college fan than NFL. And he'll get to live it beginning next year.

"I'm so looking forward to playing college football," Rizk said. "I love it. It's an indescribable feeling I have. I love waking up knowing I'm going to UCF to play football. I love it. I can't wait to play in the games and get to know other people that want the same thing as me. Everybody on the team wants to win a National Championship. That's what I want and what we're striving to get."

OT: 100% Increase in Home Owners Insurance??

I can take it to the cooler, if needed, and definitely not trying to start a Roof Claim debate.... but has anyone else’s home owners insurance recently gone up 100%? I just received a notice that my premium is increasing $1,600 because of claims on the coast of FL. I haven’t filed a claim in the 3 years since living in my current home. I get the 10-15% increase p/yr, but 100%? Any agents on this board who want a new client?

UCF-Cincinnati 2018 Flashback: Loudest ever Bounce House for Bearcats' opening drive

Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 may be the greatest day on campus in UCF Football history. The No. 11 Knights hosted ESPN GameDay in the morning and then the No. 19 Cincinnati Bearcats later in the evening on ABC. The stadium was so loud during UC's opening drive that it forced a delay of game and then a false start. Here's my video of the moment.

***Dec. 9 Visit Weekend Beginning to Take Shape***

For UCF, the first of two December official visit weekends is nearly upon us.

Early Signing Day is the third Wednesday of December, and since Dec. 1 was on a Thursday, that means it's not until Dec. 21. UCF also plays a post-Christmas bowl game, which will allow for a bit more recruiting time since coaches were occupied during championship week.

The first Military Bowl practice is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17. They will practice right up until Dec. 22, then take Dec. 23-24, then return in time for a Christmas Day morning practice and then will fly to Washington D.C. later on in the day.

Anyway, here's a few of the names that will be visiting this weekend. There are likely more which have yet to surface.

HS Players

CB Jason Duclona - UCF Commit
K Grant Reddick - UCF Commit

Transfers

WR Abdul Janneh
- Duquesne

Hanover, Pennsylvania native. Good size. Caught 43 passes for 579 yards and nine touchdowns this past season.

WR Dante Wright - Colorado State

Originally from the Florida Panhandle. A freshman All-American in 2019. Saw his production tail off with a coaching change and some injuries. In 2019, he caught 57 passes for 805 yards and four TDs.

CB Kenney Solomon II - Tulsa

Originally from Myrtle Beach and signed with Tennessee out of high school. Saw his most extensive playing this past season at Tulsa, mostly as a reserve.

CB Brian George - Texas A&M

Originally from the Belle Glade area. Went to a JUCO and then A&M. He has played mostly as a reserve, but does have a few starts. Played in five games in 2022 with two starts.

Cincinnati CB transfer Ja'Quan Sheppard announced a final two of UCF and Maryland. He will be in College Park this weekend seeing the Terps and I believe UCF next weekend. He was an All-AAC first teamer this past season, his first year as a full-time starter. Originally from Zephyrhills, Fla.

FIU WR Tyrese Chambers posted a top eight of Colorado, Cincinnati, UConn, Arizona State, UCF, Toledo, Maryland and West Virginia.

I haven't heard back on where he's visiting this weekend.

Louisiana Tech LB Tyler Grubbs announced a UCF offer on Thursday morning. I would not be surprised if he visits. He led the Bulldogs in tackles in both 2020 and 2021. He played in just five games in 2022, limited with an injury. He also has offers from Arkansas State, Troy, UConn, Tulane, Appalachian State and Southern Miss.
