UCF Flashback: The 2005 Goal Post game against Marshall

Who attended this game ? I watched it online via a splotchy stream but I listened to Marc Daniels and got the stream synced up to watch us break our long losing streak. I knew this might be our day when Paul Carrington had that great strip/sack/fumble recovery deep in Marshall territory. in the first quarter.

Temple head coach Stan Drayton addressed the Philadelphia media during his weekly press conference on Monday. Here are the clips when he talks about this Thursday's game at UCF.

Full press conference is here:

Opening up the UCF history vault (UPDATED 10-11-2022 with a women's basketball game from 11-27-1987 against the North Carolina Tarheels)

I am going to start scanning/photographing all of my old UCF newspaper clips, game programs, and other historical literature in order to build an archive.

We need to embrace and document our history and paper doesn't last forever, but the internet does, lol.

***QB John Rhys Plumlee talks about big performance vs. SMU, Space Game vs. Temple ⚔️🦉🏈

"Life is Good" for UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee following his big performance last time out against SMU. Now it's all about consistency and repeating with another big game this Thursday against Temple in the Space Game.

Plumlee, wearing a "Life is Good" t-shirt, was the offensive representative at Monday's press conference.

He talked about "reloading" as far as trying to put on a repeat big performance this week vs. Temple, but emphasized the past was the past.

JRP laughed about a question in regards to his sliding. As a lifelong baseball player, he understands how to slide but sometimes tries to push it as long as possible, perhaps a little too late.

He felt things really started to click in the second half vs. SMU after making corrections. The first couple big passing plays opened up some runs and then it all snowballed from there. He says it was a lot of fun to get the ball out to the playmakers

WR Kobe Hudson is a "stud." JRP enrolled with him at the same time. They put a lot of work in during the summer. He had his best game vs. SMU and then had his best practice this past Sunday.

With all the midweek games, it takes a minute to recognize which practice it is. For instance, their practice on Sunday was their normal "Tuesday practice."

JRP doesn't know a lot about the AAC, but quoted Gus Malzahn in saying, "This is a real conference."

Asked about WRs dropping passes, JRP understands because he's been a wide receiver. It's all about the next play. He misses throws too. You can't let it affect the next play.

With UCF not playing on many Saturdays, he watched the Ole Miss win against Vanderbilt. He gave a shout out to WR Jonathan Mingo who set an Ole Miss record with 247 receiving yards on nine catches with two touchdowns.

JRP is learning more about UCF's Space Game tradition though says he's "fired up" about it. He thinks the jerseys are really cool.

As a baseball player, JRP tries to spend his off day doing minimal baseball work. It might be for 10 minutes in the batting cage or just hanging out for a few minutes.

***DT Anthony Montalvo Press Conference - Temple Week ⚔️🦉🏈

UCF defensive tackle Anthony Montalvo isn't going to let a broken thumb deter him from playing in his final season.

"I broke my thumb during the Louisville game," Montalvo said. "It happened. (I told them to) put a cast on it... It's my last year. I want to play. No matter what it is, I want to be out there and play with my brothers."

Montalvo was the defensive representative at Monday's press conference. The Knights are preparing for their final weekday game of the season, a Thursday night matchup against Temple.

After five games, how would he evaluate their defensive line?

"There's always room for improvement, especially on the d-line," Montalvo said. "Coach (Kenny) Martin coaches us hard and wants us to be the best in the country. We're never going to be perfect, but we want to strive for it. For the first part of the year, we've done decent. We're starting to get where we want to."

UCF's depth though has taken a hit as top reserve Keenan Hester is out for the foreseeable issue with an undisclosed health issue. That's put more reps on the plate for Matthew Alexander, Lee Hunter and Kervins Choute.

"They're adjusting and getting the feel for it," Montalvo said. "They're no longer young guys. They've played and have experience."

UCF maintained their No. 1 national ranking in red zone defense against SMU. Montalvo said it's the experience that makes all the difference.

"We have a lot of veteran guys," he said. "We play hard and have guys who run to the ball."

Temple enters the game ranked dead last in the American in scoring offense (15.0 ppg), total offense (282.8 ypg) and rushing offense (83.8 ypg). Their passing offense (199.0 ypg) is No. 9 out of 11 teams.

While the stats aren't great, Montalvo isn't overlooking them.

"They have guys that can make plays," Montalvo said. "They're a downhill run team, which as a defensive tackle we love that. We want to make plays. There's going to be double teams we have to handle. We have to make sure our technique is great."

Thursday will also be UCF's sixth space game featuring a special-edition helmet and jersey. Montalvo has been on the team since the very first Space Game in 2017.

"I've seen the helmet and they showed us a little bit of the jersey," Montalvo said. "They haven't fully shown us yet."

His favorite space game helmet of all time was the moon design in 2019.

Space Game uniforms, merchandise

The third annual space game is Nov. 2 vs. Houston. UCF will begin promotion though this week. I heard that limited edition merchandise will be revealed on Monday (tomorrow) with the uniform being unveiled on Wednesday or Thursday.

Upon announcement, the merchandise should be available immediately at the bookstore. Last year's merch included a Citronaut Dri-Fit t-shirt and a Nike Citronaut hat.

UCF's Dylan Moore Headin to AL Title Match

Dylan ended the regular season batting .224 with 6 HRs, 24 RBIs and 34 BBs in 205 ABs.

Cal Raleigh (FSU) and Logan Gilbert (Stetson) also on Seattle's roster.

Pretty sure UCF has never had a World Series winning alum.

Hershel Walker: GOP Supporters? Really?

The fact that the GOP would vote and support this candidate says so much. So scary for our republic...
So many fringe crazy candidates...
I'm starting to believe that opposition is not going to save us, we have to support rationale GOP leaders and supporters. Those that will stand up to this and do something about it.
Leadership matters.
