Gasparilla Errata

- shout out to the UCF fans selected to participate in the on-field promotional competitions during commercial breaks: two bike relay wins and a huge 61 yard putt to go Undefeated, National Champs in the promo games

- It’s true that UF didn’t have one, single Head Coach on their payroll. They had three Head Coaches on their payroll: Mullen, Greg Knox, and Billy Napier

- I still have the gold sticker over my phone camera’s flash bulb

- when a fan base claims they have “nothing to win, and everything to lose” they are lying. If “losing” yields “everything” then you want to win to retain “everything”. UF had “everything” at stake and still lost

- I was annoyed with the people in the UCF section that brought gator fans (I get it, people have tight relationships and “House divided” etc) but I relished in those gator fans having to stay until the end of the game and watch, knowing the ride home sucked and the unavoidable chapter in UCF’s favor that now imbue those relationships.

- a win is better than a loss

- when UF scored their last touchdown and went up, their 30k+ fans went nuts. Jumping, cheering, chomping, high fiving; showing how much they ‘didn’t care’ by doing the same thing they’d do if they went up on Bama in the CFP.

- UCF is undefeated in bowls that feature Gus Malzahn as head corch

***Lake Mary CB Braeden Marshall enjoying touring campuses, loves UCF***

Class of 2023 Lake Mary (Fla.) cornerback Braeden Marshall put forth an impressive performance at UCF's Prospect Camp on Tuesday and returned on Wednesday for an unofficial visit.

"It was a really good camp," Marshall said. "Coaches said I performed pretty well. I talked to Coach (Darion) Monroe after the camp and he said he liked what he saw. It was good to hear that from those coaches. I really like that coaching staff.

"Yesterday was the unofficial visit. We went through all the facilities, tried on the jerseys and went to the stadium. It was very nice. I love the facilities. I love the practice field and the locker room. It's the hometown, so nothing like the hometown team."

Marshall spoke with co-defensive coordinator David Gibbs and cornerbacks coach Addison Williams during his unofficial visit.

"They toured me around and we talked about UCF," Marshall said. "I loved it. They said they'll be keeping an eye on me all through the fall season. Just keep working."

He said he's watched a lot of UCF games the past few years.

"It's Orlando, so I've always supported the home team," Marshall said. "It's been cool seeing their success the past few years. Now they've got Gus Malzahn. Coming from a big-time SEC school, I think they're going to be a powerhouse with him there. I love it."

In addition to UCF, Marshall has camped at Florida State, Auburn and Georgia Tech this month. He has an offer from FAU and has also been getting interest from Ole Miss. He attended the Rebels' spring game.

"It's been real good being able to visit campuses, seeing what it's like and how the coaches are," Marshall said. "It's been a good experience."

His sophomore season was his first year playing corner.

"Things coaches say they love about me is my patience," Marshall said. "I'm very patient. I don't try to guess or be too aggressive. I try to be patient and let the game come to me. Things I need to improve on is closing down the receiver and ball skills. That's what it's all about, putting in the work. I'm ready for the challenge."

We caught some breaks

Last night. I can think of a good amount. The onside kick that drilled our player and 3 gators can’t recover it. The double pass that was thrown short. That should of been a td. The 4th down pass where the gator player slipped and dropped a td pass. Also, didn’t there best lb get ejected for throwing a punch on a extra point. Seemed like we ran all over them after that. Great win. 9-4 with all the injuries we had is amazing. Can’t wait for next year.

UCF beats Gators: weird stuff in game

  1. Cole Schneider's helmet tries to mate with gator boy helmet
  2. Navarro face plant
  3. Mini cannons firing after TD's (don't they have a Susan around there?)
  4. UCF 2 pt conversion after 1st TD. WTF? I think thrown by Andrew Brito? (more on this below)
  5. Gators 50 yd field goal attempt goes 30 yards
  6. Brandon Johnson, UCF's leading TD catcher: 0 catches/yards
  7. Gatewood's attempt to mimic Tebow's pop pass w/3rd & goal: pfft (should've played Brito)
  8. Gator onside kick pinballs off of (I think) Mark-Antony Richards and he somehow recovers

OT: Any DB Cooper sleuths out there?

I was skeptical when I first heard of this on an aviation YouTube channel I subscribe to, but I must say that I watched the entire 2 hours and 48ish minutes and I am sold on this account of who DB Cooper was. Fascinating story that I have followed for decades. If you watch the whole thing (it won't make sense unless you do), watch for the little bonus section after you think it is over.

In case anybody was ever interested in this (along with a personal note):

Majority of the time at away (or bowl) games) players receive a postgame to-go box from CFA to eat on the bus. Sometimes this differs if the game is in an area that doesn't have CFA. I've seen other options including Boston Market (UConn road games) and Popeye's (this year at Louisville).

Both UCF and UF had the full spread from CFA outside their locker rooms for the Gasparilla Bowl. I'm not sure when they are delivered, probably sometime during the second half.

Upon exiting Raymond James last night around midnight, I noticed all of UCF's CFA boxes were gone. But walking by the UF locker room, there was a large stack of boxes still remaining. One of the security guys was making sure everybody hanging around and leaving was free to grab a box (or several). Cool. So I did.

The basic CFA meal box includes:

-Two CFA sandwiches.
-One box of 12 fried nuggets.
-Waffle Potato Chips.
-Chocolate Chip Cookie.
-One each of EVERY sauce.

It was a good amount of food, but not really surprising considering the calories a lot of players consume.

I ate one of the CFA sandwiches (just one) as I was leaving RJ for the drive home. I didn't really want to stay overnight in Tampa, so this was always the plan. I was only slightly tired, but didn't want to deal with the traffic today.

It's always hard to prove stuff like this, but I think it was the CFA sandwich that didn't agree with me (it was cold when I ate it). I went to bed around 3:30 a.m. (already feeling kinda queasy in the stomach, "tasting" the sandwich again and again with burps) and woke around around 4:30 not feeling great - I'll save the details. I think it may have been exacerbated by being slightly dehydrated.

I slept late to recharge, was feeling kinda weak, but feel fine now after eating again. So I think something was definitely off with that sandwich.

Have read some of the threads, not all, still have plenty of post.

What a fantastic night! I hope everybody has a great Christmas!
