Here is what was said about the Knights:

UCF

“KJ Jefferson was the no-brainer QB transfer of the offseason. He’s going to thrive in [Gus Malzahn’s] system, and there won’t be any adjustment needed from either side."

"[New defensive coordinator] Ted Roof is more of a buddy-hire; he definitely lost his fastball at OU, but Malzahn has had a lot of success at UCF by keeping his guys locked in at all the key coaching positions."

"They’re getting better and better in recruiting, Gus has given them what the administration built for a long time — that real shot at being another power team in the state of Florida. They’ve upped their game in every way."

--30--

For the record, I slightly disagree with the take that Ted Roof was a "buddy hire." Gus needed a guy who could patch up the holes in the run defense without shaking up the defensive staff too much. Roof was a great fit.

The best hire available was Gary Patterson. Bar none. But Roof ain't chopped liver.

B12 coaches are going to talk up every other team to make the wins seem better. And obviously the losses as well. Have to get opinions from teams we aren’t directly competing against.

Calling Ted Roof a buddy hire is hardly talking up your opponents. He might as well be called trash and should retire...or potential to be worse DC hire since gol brought in Chuck Bresnahan before the 0-12 season.

Not remotely. Dude is a national championship-winning coordinator. Those don't grow on trees. He is so much better than Ernie Sims. He was the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma. UCF is lucky to have him.

Dude WAS a national championship-winning..... WAS.... WAS.... He WAS DC at Ok which is where he 'lost his fastball'. WAS decent, WAS. But then again, this analysis is from somebody that thinks Malzahn has had "lot of success at UCF" I must have missed that, or is mediocrity=lot of success. There's no way you can try to say 4-7 losses a year (most at a low AAC level) is success. Now we have someone who did something a decade ago as DC. Here's hoping it works.

As bad as our defense was last year, I figure anything will be an improvement.

Bresnahan was DC for super bowl runner up. His value crashed to being the DC for the worst UCF team of all time. Now he's retired.

Ted Roof is on fire...you know how the rest will f the saying goes.
