We lost to these guys 3 times last year and they have a solid team again this year. They lost their head coach to Kentucky. ESPN analytics gives BYU a 60% chance of winning this one, which seems too high. Just got tickets, ready for a show!

We better keep a close eye on Saunders and Knell. Both are shooting better than 43% from 3 and I seem to remember each one going off on us at least once last year. BYU is gonna come in here with a lot of confidence knowing they beat us 3 times a year ago and coming off a good win against Baylor.

Catchings was their leading scorer last game. 23 off bench. 4-4 from 3. Their Center is only 6’8”. We probably have height advantage over them. Hopefully play man because they can shoot the 3s.

Egor Demin is a 6’9” freshman out of Russia who is coming on strong for them offensively the last couple games with 15 points each game. I haven’t watched his highlights but he’s also averaging 5.9 assists this season which is very impressive. Looking at his home/away splits, he seems to play much better at home vs on the road. It’ll be fun to watch him vs Hall if they get matched up.

We only got 2 points off the bench in 27 minutes against Kansas, which is pretty remarkable considering we dropped 87 in the Allen Fieldhouse. You gotta imagine we get a lot more production from them at home tomorrow. I’ll predict the Williams brothers put up some offensive numbers and Mikey will hit his first collegiate three pointer. Most importantly though is that they bring the energy and play suffocating defense. Dawkins said JJ Tayler is still under the weather, but I have a feeling he’ll get in this game.

BYU bench scored 45! in 84 minutes off the bench in their OT win against Baylor. Only had 19 in their last road game.

I think with the way both teams can shoot, this one will be higher scoring. Both teams average around 80 points per game but UCF allows 79 and BYU only allows 67. I’ll predict:

UCF 78
BYU 75

I think Thiam will have a monster game. First 20+ point game of his young career and also pull down 9+ rebounds and 3+ blocks. His confidence has to be soaring after how well he played at Kansas against Dickinson.

When I used to go to games in college in the old arena we used to single out certain opposing players and yell their name constantly whenever they touched the ball. Does the student section still do this? I wasn’t part of Kirk’s Jerks but man we had some fun heckling opposing teams. We used to stand right above the basket back then, in the walkway area and just have good, clean banter back and forth with those guys.

Diving into the stats a little deeper, this BYU team is scary good. Their points per possession for the season is 1.02. UCF is at 0.94 and Kansas is 0.97 for comparison. They pretty much go 10 deep with a lot of guys that have been with the program for awhile, so very experienced. They also have two freshman that may both end up being NBA draft picks. This game is gonna be a dog fight and I hope the crowd brings some extra energy come 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. We better play smart and be ultra focused from the start or else they will come in here and steal a road win. I’m banking on guys like Johnson and Sellers who were here last year to make sure the team is fully prepared and locked in. Don’t want to lose to BYU again.
