Can there be reconciliation

The Supreme Court decided after the Civil War that states did not have the right to secede. Recently, Justice Scalia has expressed the same opinion.
There's still some grey area there, but let's say that's definitive. Would a state that joined prior to that ruling be held to that later standard? Or for that matter, why are citizens held to that level of contract if they didn't agree to it? Sure, they've received the benefits of citizenship but how is being born here considered a binding agreement?

There are only a handful a states that could secede and actually be a successful country. Cali, Texas, NY, maybe Florida, and maybe Hawaii because it's so tourist based. A lot of states in this country are just flat out poor, so why in the world would they secede and lose the benefits of the federal government?

Since the Civil War pretty much settled the issue, yes all states are going to be bound by it. As for whether we are willing to fight a war over it in this day and age, I have no idea. The problem is that we’re either heading for a cultural war or we’re already in one and the ideologies in contention are intermingled in all of the states. So unless there is a migration that runs counter to the current exodus from many blue states, then I don’t think that you’re going to see secession any time soon.

I could see the blue states leaving, specifically the west coast states it Trump loses the popular vote by 5-10 million and gets re-elected.

The great experiment is coming to an end. A small group of elitist are going to rule the roost. Communism/socialism progressivism is winning the day. capitalism/individualism is losing.

And no the states will not be allowed to secede.

If Trump wins like that, it’ll mean the end of the Electoral College. They might not be able to remove it from the system, but the popular vote agreements will render it useless. I hate to say it but I think that goodknightfl May very well be right.

The American Taliban left wing at it again. This time to go after the guy who literally led the effort to defeat slavery in America.

Utterly ridiculous. Grant wasn't a great president, but he helped defeat slavery moreso than anyone in the union not named Lincoln. In reality, his motivation was more anti-slavery than Abes was.

Agree he was a hard nosed General, which the North really needed at the time. But was not a good Prez.
