- Recertification credentials may be denied for police officers if determined that their use of deadly force was unwarranted by federal guidelines.
- Implementation of Citizen’s Review Boards in municipalities to hold police departments accountable and build public confidence.
These are similar to what they agreed to with Chicago after the Laquan McDonald incident. I have some reservations on 3 and 5 but the list seems reasonable.
With 3, it’s easy to see how a press and society that intentionally removes context to paint a narrative can use that information as a weapon when it suits them.
With 5, the board can easily be corrupted in one way or another to either not matter at all or to be an immovable obstacle causing police to cya rather than police. Incidentally, Minneapolis already has a Civilian Police Review Authority in place.
I thought it was fairly reasonable as well. Much more sane than what other groups have been demanding.

6 levels of de-escalation sounds great until you realize that a cop will never have time for 6 steps of de-escalation if someone intends to attack them with a weapon or otherwise.

Take some of the money that goes to police departments and start a department for mental health.
When you get a mental health related call you no longer have to send cops.
Less cops needed means you dont need as much budget.
Better equipped and trained individuals are responding to mental health calls.

Many of the police forces in America are already underfunded. The solution lies in augmenting police forces with other capabilities. If you think police officers aren’t equipped to deal with mental health calls, then find permanent mental health positions that go out with police whenever there is a mental health call to handle the situation. One officer, one mental health worker.
Similarly, you fund a number of deescalation specialists to work with the on-duty squads and show up to those calls.

Crime ridden minority communities need more cops. Way, way more cops. Not less. This entire campaign is entirely counter to what they want, which are safer and more vibrant minority communities that are not plagued by crime.
