The next Republican primary is going to be nuts. I am interested to see how Desantis walks the line of trying to beat Trump, while also not running off people who like Trump. If there is any truth to this, Trump is going to lay into Desantis.

Wouldn't surprise me, but this is a fight that Trump will lose.

I dont know about that. At this point I think Desantis is the one Republican who could beat him, but not sure he would beat him. And we will have to see how some of this 1/6 stuff plays out with Trump and Desantis isnt a shoe in either, still a ways to go before the primaries and debates. But besides that, Desantis certainly has that Trumpish bravado about him, but do you think he can essentially out-Trump Trump? I dont. I think he is going to have to figure out a way to not let Trump walk over him, while also not just trying to replicate Trump's bullying tactics. I think that is going to be more difficult than you think.

The Republicans I know have a severe disdain for the current administration and social climate... they'll be voting against the woke agenda as much or more than for the Republican nominee... Sort of a reverse Trump/Biden scenario.

But that doesnt distinguish between Trump or Desantis. Both are against a "woke agenda".

We agree to agree, that's my point - regardless of the nominee, the base is so fired up against the Dems, any tussles during the primary will be water under the bridge come general election time.

If DeSantis runs for President, who will the Republicans have run for Governor? 🤔

If Desantis beats Trump I have a hard time seeing Trump back Desantis in the general election, especially if it gets heated, which it will. At best he just goes away and stays out of it, at worse he keeps going after Desantis. I think Desantis would back Trump, because he probably wouldnt have much of a choice if he wanted to run in the future, but I dont see Trump going to bat for Desantis if Desantis beats him.

It won't be 1 republican that beats Trump, it will be the field.

He won't have to back Desantis if that happens... Trump supporters' hated for the current environment is > then their love for the Don. They will still vote 'R' come election time, regardless who the nominee is.

I think you are underestimating how much some people love Trump, to the point it is quite bizarre. I mean, we have people sitting in jail right now for storming the capitol on Trump's behalf, which isnt normal behavior when your guy loses. There is no guarantee a lot of Trump's base sticks with Republicans, or even stay politically engaged and show up to vote if Trump is out of the equation.

I don't disagree with the cult following of some... Trump's base does not want another 4 years of a progressive agenda... They'll turn out regardless.

Lmao:
“Trump turned 76 today. Joe Biden will be 80 in November.

Ron DeSantis is 43 years old. Just an observation.”

We need fresh blood in this country.

I have no clue, but if you are suggesting they might run Trump for governor, I cant see Trump being interested in that.

No, just curious who the Republicans will run against the Democratic challenges if Desantis decides to run for president.

Is the Republican party wiling to risk losing Florida's governor race for a chance at winning the presidentcy? 🤔

I agree. Unfortunately, I'm not sure Ron Desantis can beat him. I think the Governor is the perfect person to have running against Dems.

Certainly possible, but that doesnt necessarily mean the field wont beat Desantis too.

It's stuff like this that sets DeSantis apart. He knows when to go after the media and knows when to play with them. Kind of a combination of Reagan and Trump.

Nah. Just recognizing his ability to read the room. Something Trump and Biden both lack.

Yeah, I dont think joking about African Americans after he just gerrymandered the shit out of a mostly black district in Florida is going to be the good time joke that appeals to people like you think.

Do you think that black people would be offended by it?

It's not the joke, it's the approach to the media.
Nobody is better than Trump with the media, his entire fame and life is built around knowing how to interact with the media. Desantis making a goofy joke doesn't make him better than Trump in that regard.

Crazy is overplaying its importance and cubs is also making too big of a deal about it on the other end. No one will remember this in a month.

So Disney pulled out the “neuter the incoming administration” play that outgoing Republicans in state governments live to try and do in their lame duck periods.

Except Disney, who is corporation and not a voted on government representative, did all of this with full compliance of the Sunshine State information laws lol.

Chef’s kiss.

It better not be tax payer dollars going to these law firms from this board to fight this.

That's the hilarious thing: Disney did what they did right in front of the DeSantis Administration but the idiots were too proud of themselves for their 'powerplay' on Disney to have noticed.

I'm still interested to see how Florida taxpayers come out on this deal when all is said and done.
