Fire Gus

Gus is getting worse every year. He has gone from 9-4 in 2021 and 9-5 in 2022 to 6-7 in 2023 and 4-7 in 2024. This is not a good trend. He is making over a $1,000,000 a win this season. The fans are frustrated. This is very hard to watch. I fear this will get worse. He changed the play callers and assistant coaches, but it is still awful to watch. There are way too many mistakes. NIL and quarterbacks were grossly mismanaged. There has to be some accountability. Gus is like a stock that keeps dropping. Sometimes you have to sell to preserve capital. Then, maybe you can find a better investment. The longer UCF keeps him, the more money UCF loses. Firing him may cost $12,000,000, but how much will keeping him cost the athletic department?

I was thinking that since UCF won't be in a bowl game this year, maybe the athletics department could have a fundraiser to collect money to buy Gus out instead. Think of all the $$$ the fans shelled out on bowl games in the past. People spend money on travel, tickets, meals, souvenirs and transportation. This year, people will have all of that money left over. Maybe they will contribute to a buyout.

If we don’t have millions in our Athletic Accounts, people should be fired. This is a business. It’s not being run in the red. No one is withdrawing money as soon as a profit is made. The money gets put back into making facilities better and operating costs. 3 mill per home game is profit. That’s 18 mill. Plus whatever money is earmarked already for projects. I’d rather get rid of a bad coach than upgrade stadium or facilities right now. Wait a couple years when excitement is back to do upgrades and use that money.

Even companies that file bankruptcy, can spend frivolously. The money is there. Repurpose it.

and to your point why upgrade the stadium if no one is coming to games.

While the idea has good intent, think about why this problem exists to begin with. The ATHLETIC DIRECTOR gave Gus a ridiculous extension. If anyone should be paying for a buyout, it should be out of his own pocket.

That list may be a sign of why we don't want new coach. First and last name only ones a bit interesting to me.
Exactly. I'm all for firing Gus next season. But give me a plan. Firing Gus is not a plan. Seriously. Only a few people here have had the guts to name some coaches. Although most have had their own buyout costs too.

We're on a ****ing message board, nobody needs to give a plan. TMo needs to have the plan, and I'm pretty sure he's not going to be comparing notes with any plan on this message board. There is a better option out there than Gus, you know there is, everyone on here knows there is. Get rid of Gus, and find that guy, that's literally his job.

The sooner Gus is gone the better. I’ll tell you why. Malzone won’t the able to attract top talent…either from the portal or from high school. The 2025 recruiting class is ranked #63 per the 247 Sports Composite and it will be worse for 2026. There are no viable/desirable coaches that will work for him now. The best Malzone can hope to hire are Ted Roof types or unproven young coaches.

Two losing seasons in a row, the talent on the team getting worse, attendance will decline, the TV numbers will only get worse (terrible this year), social media backlash will continue, and most donors no longer donating. 4/5 starting OL leaving, Harvey gone, Hudson gone. The football program needs a reset with a young, energetic head coach.

What’s the point of bringing Gus back? He needs to be fired or a deal worked where he “resigns” but gets paid a partial buyout. UCF football is in a hole that will not get deeper if Gus Malzone returns in 2025.

Exactly why I don't listen to the whiners, just like in 2015-2016 too, from Dino being the best option, to the endless complaints about Milton, and Frost being stupid for sticking with him. :)

Just like there is a better option than Mullen.
Just like there is a better option than Pelini.
Oh I've got a whole list.

Dino will always be my favorite. *

I’ve never seen a college football fan reference Dino Babers so often. It’s a fetish.

You are just as sick as the Grandpa Boom stan. It’s weird.

Next year is a repeat of this year. Maybe a better QB. Defense will be atrocious.

When the only two people that don't want you fired are 1. The #1 (and only) member of the Guz Malzahn fan club and #2 A guy who doesn't really have any defense for you, but is so hung up on a Dino Babers post from this message board from about a decade ago, (by someone who almost certainly doesn't still post here, and could be dead for all we know) that it seems to have severed his grip on reality, it's not a great sign for the job you're doing.

Only hope we can have for enjoying next season is if Gus will admit his filling the roster up strategy with transfers
was flawed and that he is willing to not just step down from play calling as OC but to let a new OC step in who will totally open up the offense.

One can dream...
I thought he already stepped down from play calling. Twice.

Like hell he did. If that were true, then why is he pacing the sidelines with a play sheet? Get him off the sidelines. Better yet, if you can't fire him, and he's to egotistical to retire, then make him watch the game at home but be sure to take away his cell phone. I don't believe he is capable of stopping himself from interfering. Things are really discouraging right now.

Um I gotta call bull on you. by your twisted, no risk logic in 2016, we should have stuck with Brent Key (or maybe another O'Leary protege Geoff Collins) and the trajectory UCF was on. I mean, he was coach/coach in waiting a year after a historic UCF season and we should have given him at least 7 years to prove himself. Which means right now we are watching Memphis in the Big 12.

Can you even remember the hot coaching names in 2015 because Frost wasn't well known. (great outside the box hire by DW !) The hot names were Matt Cambell, Chris Ash, Jason Candell, DJ Durkin, Mike Norvell, Bronco Mendenhall.

As a matter of fact many National Publications thought Georgia dumping Richt for Kirby Smart was a horrible decision and Richt was going to light it up at Miami. Babers wasn't even the worst hire that year. That honor clearly would have been Muschamp or Durkin.
