Hurricane Matthew and Friday night AACtion Tulane at UCF

Problem with Saturday is the aftermath plus Tulane being able to travel here thurs/Friday. Just my opionion. Nov 5 makes the most sense.

Yep, plus fans traveling to and from. Also, I heard that if the models show that it will be only 20-80 miles off shore they will have to order evacuations of the whole coastline in its path. There's a decent chance for a lot of power issues and roads clogged with downed trees in central FL like when Charley rolled through in '04. I was a student back then and was without power for a few days. I'd expect them to make a call before Tulane is slated to get on a plane so the next couple days of models will be key. November 5th makes a lot of sense.

Is that the plan? Do you have a source? Isn't it easier to do Saturday?

Game can't be played on Saturday if Tulane can't fly into Orlando on Thur or Friday...and I'm sure Tulane doesn't want to get stuck in Orlando without power during the brunt of the storm.

Believe I was one of the first to notice that both Tulane/UCF both had the same bye weeks (Fri Nov 4/Sat Nov 5), so hopefully that AAC forces the game to be played then. (NOTE: UCF would then have 3 straight home games).

Maybe with this suppose to being a Friday Night Game...they will keep it on Friday Night, Nov 4.

The weather on Saturday at Noon will probably be "ok"...but the unknown (i.e. will stadium/campus have power? All the police departments that UCF relies on for game day could be placed on emergency detail obviously elsewhere), so I don't think UCF will have the personnel to handle a game on Saturday, even if the weather would be ok.

Ugh...I'm on the Space Coast...shutters going up tonight. Hoping for weakening.

Go Knights! Hope we can make the game!!! I'm sure UCF will make an announcement soon if on or not.

Thanks. Hurricane landfalls suck.

First article addressing possible cancellation:

Of the two games, the Tulane-UCF game would appear to be more of a concern based on the projected timing of the storm’s passage, since the Green Wave is scheduled to fly to Orlando on Thursday.

Preliminary discussions between Tulane and UCF have already occurred and “will continue on a daily basis,” Tulane athletics spokesman Scottie Rodgers said in an email Monday afternoon.

Well I bid my goodbyes today. Merritt Island will pretty much be toast by Friday PM.

How would Tulane possible know anything about hurricanes? :scream:
Now the cone for the center of the storm includes eastern Orlando area (including UCF). In other words, they have no idea where this thing is going yet, but it's going to get bigger and possibly stronger. Tomorrow they should know a lot more.

Yup I remember that storm and being down without power for days as well. But to your point your are 100% correct they need to figure this out before Tulane is stuck in Orlando

Me too!...I was expecting last week nice clean A-frame surf for the morning and football in the evening..how things change lol

this sucks..Tulane at home is the perfect short week

also about the Guerard suspension I wish that could be appealed, more worried about not having him for a half at Temple vs the planned suspension for Tulane

Question: does BHS have backup generators? Also, does ESPN bring them (if a game occurs and isn't broadcast, does it really occur?)

Here's the latest projection from 11AM today -

Do you mean Rucker?

This really sucks. I haven't missed a game in years and have never enjoyed
it as much as this year so far. Hope it's moved to Saturday instead
of Nov 5th. The storm seems to be moving faster. Maybe it will clear out faster.

I'm hoping they wait till Wednesday afternoon to make the final call to make sure on the direction it's headed.

They should wait a bit. Things change quickly. Maybe tomorrow PM
Yeah, because, like it's a -- hurricane. Their paths are so predictable, right? The forecast center of this storm is 250 miles wide! So it still has a considerable likelihood of being way out to sea.
Also, it's sure to be low rated: It's tied for the 3rd best Friday night game and it's on ESPU, not ESPN or ESPN2! Who's gonna be watching when there's #3 Clemson starting at 7:30 on ESPN (or #19 Boise St. at 9PM on CBS Sports)?

Per the AAC's Assistant Commissioner for Communications Chuck Sullivan, the American Athletic Conference has begun to look for other times where the game could be played. Sullivan tells Knights247 that nothing is definite as of right now, but discussions have taken place to move the game to another date.

Friday's football game is not the only game affected by the storm, which is why the AAC is still in wait-and-see mode until the path of the storm becomes clearer.

If the conference were to move the game, two of the tentative plans would be to move the game to Saturday afternoon, or the more likely scenario, moving the game to UCF's bye week of November 5th, which is also Tulane's bye week.

I don't see how Saturday works. They are not going to fly in on Friday. Push the game to Nov 5th and be done with it.

Schools in SC closed starting tomorrow through Friday. They are ordering the evacuation of the coast starting 3:00 tomorrow.

If it gets moved to November, better chance that we will see M. Milton the next time we play, which will be Temple... more rest for his ankle.
Not to mention the other folks hurting after 5 straight weeks without a bye week. The downside? Our LB will not be able to play the first half against Temple!
P.S.: UCF has already closed it's Brevard County campuses starting Thursday. The track now includes Orlando, so there could mega destruction.

Spent my whole day in emergency room with 35 year old son, has surgery in titusville tomorrow. Don't know how or when I will be able to reinstall shutters. Took them off to put up new siding and never needed them since. Hopefully I can squeeze in the 3 or 4 that are in the worse spots to get debris.

Hoping all will be well with you and your family.

Any word if game is cancelled? Mandatory evacuation over here. Maybe I'll camp out by the stadium and ride the storm out there?!? Game still on or not? I imagine they will cancel it. but geez.
