It's going to take a full ground assault and it's going to require controlling large parts of these lands that ISIS is using to raise fighters and train them.

THe control 40% of Syria, a third of Iraq, and now they're apparently establishing their own region in Libya following the vast wasteland of ungoverned territory there.

And reports show that they've taking over more and more of Anbar Province, roughly 50 miles from Baghdad.

The US could and should participate in a short ground war under these strict conditions:

- US troops fight alongside Saudi, UAE, Egyptian, Jordanian, Iraqi, French, German, and UK troops
- US troops participate only in an attack, defeat, and advance mode
- US troops leave combat immediately after defeating main ISIS defenses and leave controlling the area/rooting out other ISIS members to the Middle East coalition armies

The US military could tear these assholes to shreds in a matter of days, we just wouldn't want to govern the place after.

Never said that...and you are soooo far out there its almost laughable to continue any discussion with your train of thought (if there is one).

One thing reading about history teaches you is that yes, even in the military, you can learn from past mistakes.

Ex: Go back and review the mistakes of the Vietnam build-up and what changed during the Gulf War I build-up and why it was so successful.

I try to say i hate nobody. But ISIS is a new level of evil. I am bias, since they took a friend of mine. I'd say nuke'm but good people would pass as well.

But, I am also in a hard spot. I do want the US to help lead action to wipe ISIS out, but I also want 0 Americans to die. But with inaction, should we wait for them to attack us? If ISIS could, without a doubt they would strike the United States.

Another big issue is Syria, in Syria the good guys are .. ?????? The Free Syrian Army, that do not have Al Qaeda ties?
But that would be like 15 to 20 people..

The big groups are Hezbollah, and Assad which are Iran's Puppets, the FSA which is Al Qaeda, and the 3rd is ISIS.

I think the only good people in Syria are the Kurds. We need to help protect the Kurds, as they are our ground troops, and need to be rewarded with a free country.

Big Problem is 2k to 4,000 of the ISIS are European citizens, and can come into the US probably without double checking. We need to double check those coming in and out of Turkey, or Greece, or all countries they can make it to Syria from.

It's their job, they knew what they were signing up for and reenlisted after they did their first tour. Our military is volunteer.

Mach, that is exactly how combatants fight to win. There are varying degrees of collateral damage that are acceptable depending upon the civilization and technology employed, but war itself is an atrocity and should be ended as efficiently and quickly as possible. The issue is not that the public can't stomach a war, it's that the American public can't stand having troops over there getting blown up by terrorists with no visible progress being made. Fix the rules of engagement and get rid of the embedded reporters that are going to trash the soldiers no matter what they do because they believe all war is evil and the American public will get behind it. Then you can leave bases over there like in Japan, Germany, and the ROK to stabilize the area because people won't attack you for fear of swift retribution. Not what didn't happen after Benghazi. Not drone strikes that create more terrorists than they kill.

But here's the thing, if the terrorists are just going to come from the next country over, then you have to determine where to draw the lines.

This is the problem with most people in America. We want something to happen, but we don't want anyone getting hurt who we might see in the grocery store.

The reality is that war is a dirty, nasty business that doesn't look anything like what it looks like on television or in the movies. When a soldier goes over there in battle, he is forever changed by what he sees, does and experiences over there whether it be for the good or for the bad.

But there comes a time when we stop talking and giving groups time outs and start kicking ass and letting them know they can't do what they are doing. And yes, some US soldiers are going to die, get maimed and suffer psychological trauma. Some civilians are going to get killed needlessly and some children are going to die. This isn't Call of Duty.

Did I enlist when I was 18? no, I considered it and didn't. I have many friends who did and more power to them.

It's their job, they knew what they were signing up for and reenlisted after they did their first tour. Our military is volunteer.

That'd be a better way to go about - BTK as someone with actual skin in the game can vote if your family member is worth potentially dying to "defeat ISIS" ... whatever the empty suits determine that means.

I ought to be for war so maybe they'll spend less time "fixing the economy" & "keeping us safe" w the Patriot Act etc.

The big key is this, in Call of Duty you get shot, you either die, you can re-spawn, in real war, when you die, you gave the last full measure of devotion.
