K_L and the huggers are building GOL a statue!

Per the sentinel. You have got to be kidding me. The huggers just can't let this guy go. You respect the guy, sure...but seriously. This is super small time when we build statues for guys that TWICE in 12 years fail to win a single game. That's 17% of his seasons at UCF he didn't win a single game. Grow up K_L.

He is widely respected for what he's done on and off the field and you need to understand that. Yes he had some hiccups, but who hasn't. Appreciate what he has done for this school and quit whining about people wanting to honor him.

Huggers can't let go. How about donating that money to the athletic Dept?
I know at least one of the donors and they promised $500,000 over the next five years. Love him or hate him, but he is a major reason why the Big 12 is looking at us and why Frost and Danny White came here.

Widely respected by whom? Other than K_L, who sees success in the following: 0-11, 4-8, 4-8, 5-7, 0-12? Any one of those seasons would have resulted in a coach being fired anywhere else. You can think him for the good, but you simply cannot ignore the bad.

For crying out loud, he couldn't even break the all-time win record. Why aren't we building a Gene McDowell statue?

Pfft. He is a big reason we aren't currently in the Big 12. If we consistently performed to our potential over the last 12 years we'd be in. Instead the Big 12 has to think long and hard about inviting an 0-12 team.

So is that the kind of standard were setting, where one top 10 finish and you get a statue?Maybe USF should build Leavitt a statue for getting to #2.
Is McDowell getting a statue?
Is Georgia Tech building Oleary a statue as well? Just as much success there

The cows were only #2 for a week.lol

I know he's done alot....but don't you think it's a bit soon? He just crashed the program less than a year ago. He was fired.

Let's at least let the ink dry on his termination letter! Geese.

In a year or 2 (minimum) when we win a few games....THEN we think about a statue. :)

I don't want to live in an America where you get a Statue for 2 0 win seasons.

why announce this now? the excitement around the Program is bc everyone is trying to forget about GOL
Yeah, but in other countries, you get a statue for killing people

This is the projected look of the Mall space after 20 years with these statue standards:

We need to wait. We might have to take the statue down in a few years like at Penn State. Let's wait a few years and not rush into this thing.

Too many UCF fans who weren't around in the 80's and early 90's.

Those of us who remember being at games where UCF was a Div1-AA team, appreciate just how far we've come up since GOL came to UCF.

The best proof of where O'Leary has taken the team is the expectations that young fans have now. For that alone, he deserves a statue.

You also can't compare what the University was like in the 80s and early 90s to where it is today. GOL rode that wave. I'll give him credit for pushing for facilities upgrades, but a statue?

I guess you could say a BCS victory was the G5 national championship.

So without GOL we would be in the Big 12? You are an idiot.

I honestly don't understand all the hate for the guy, yea he had some bad years, but he's grown this program into something special. Why can't people see that, baffles me.

So if a few of us want to build a statue for Stansbury you'd support it? I mean we won the Fiesta bowl under his watch and he spearheaded the average looking Cabana Club. Sounds like he's due

The worst part is this isn't even really UCF's doing. It's not like UCF is spearheading the project. It's just a couple douchebag "donors" and UCF gave the OK. Pathetic. You don't pay homage to mediocrity. This statue will be an embarrassment.

to all the geniuses that think this is a good idea, look at all the negative headlines. If they wanted to do this wait a couple years

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/attorney-for-deceased-ucf-player-ucf-can-go-to-hell-213701613.html

There are negative headlines about everything!! That's what the news and negative nancies do!! Take expansion for example, negative about UCF, about BYU, every team gets negative publicity. Big12 gets negative headlines for staying at 10 and now they get negative headlines for looking at expansion.
So just because there are complaints, doesn't make it a bad idea. Except except for the complainers... Like many here

Why haven't they built one on the West Coast to Jim Leavitt? He was USF's savior until he was gone in 60 seconds. Perhaps because they don't have any pigeons in Tampa.
