K_L and the huggers are building GOL a statue!

So if a few of us want to build a statue for Stansbury you'd support it? I mean we won the Fiesta bowl under his watch and he spearheaded the average looking Cabana Club. Sounds like he's due

Sure...spend your money anyway you want...and if also includes a HUGE donation to help build new athletic facilities (like what will probably happen with the same folks that will pay for the O'Leary statue) go for it.

Stansbury was brought in to lead UCF down the straight and narrow as the former Athletic Director got not one but TWO major programs (Football AND Basketball) both on severe probation and both programs were crippled by those sanctions.

Stansbury's #1 job was to "not screw it up"...and he was hired to be an "administrator", which was fine at the time...and now, UCF got thru that period, Danny White is the face of what AD's should be today (i.e. total salespersons, not just administrators...spend as few days in their office as possible...as you must meet in person with current and future top donors and current/future sponsors on almost a daily basis).

I think grounds crew should get a statue. The year of the Fiesta Bowl, those mowers didn't push themselves. Maybe they did, I don't know.

Statues U!!!

Wrong. The moment that I met him, pulled him aside, and talked, two things were clear. First, he came here to retire. Second, he was going to look the other way and bide his time. That was screwing up, as attendance plummeted and the UCF buzz in the community and among students was allowed to dry up. Years of effort gone in just a few years.

A kid died on his watch......that's the only argument I need against GOL. Honestly, I don't think he gave a sh*t here. Got lucky a couple of years with Blake and Kevin. But Beef O Brady and Liberty Bowl wins should not get you statues.
And no I did not forget about Fiesta Bowl win but one major bowl win still doesn't warrant a statue

[roll]

Yeah, as AD at a G5 program who came to UCF at a young age (under 50) from a BCS/P5 program had ZERO visions/dreams of ever "moving up".

Just more proof you never knew the man.

Side Note: (Danny White's father, Kevin, is now at his 6th school as AD...a number that Danny White might come close to some day).

Ok, the prank has gone on for long enough. Now call the media and tell them it was a joke and that our former "decent" coach isn't getting no statue. Quit screwing around, ok?

Wow...really?

Mean like the same that happened to Bobby Bowden, Steve Spurrier and Jim Leavitt in FLA alone? (Sadly, dozens of other football players have died at other Universities across the country too).

Thanks for never allowing facts to ever get in a way of your jaded opinion.

How did they die? Were they called pussies and other derogatory names, chastised for "not trying hard," and pushed to their limit knowing they couldn't go anymore? From what I read about Bowden and Spurrier, both were freak accidents. They weren't pushed. O Leary deliberately pushed this kid too hard. Also, F**ck Jim Leavitt. He's irrelevant to this.

The fact that there are so many divided opinions about this statue, just goes to show you that he doesn't deserve one. Spurrier, Bowden, Saban (hell even Mack Brown) are no brainers. George is not

No matter how much you bitch and moan, the statue is coming.

If you hate the statue then don't look at it when you go to a game, if you like the statue then take a pic of it or something at a game, problem solved.

We are all UCF fans, so lets quit the bitching & animosity toward one another and just be excited for a fresh new year and enjoy some ****ing football.

I read that they aren't letting haters in unless they kiss its ass? Any truth to that?

when a Coach is so polarizing that his own fanbase hates him, a Statue is not a good idea

He did his best to kill this fanbase last season

2 Winless seasons

100% truth. DW sent out an email to everyone telling them. His quote was "Kiss his ass or kiss our, we stand behind GOL. Haters gonna hate!"

I respectfully disagree with you. I think more people appreciate what he has done for this university than hate him. You sound like an annoying USF fan that brings up 0-12. If you dont like the statue, then dont acknowledge it when you go to a game.. Its happening with our without your approval, so deal with it.

bc 0-12 is the lowest a Program can go. Did you just forget all the national media about it last year where the Program/Coach GOL was constantly shown to the nation to be on that list no University wants to be part of only to announce a Statue for that person 8 months later? Get out the fishbowl , everyone thinks this is a joke that the Onion would post

You don't like the statue, cool, but quit bitching about it.. Its happening and A LOT of Fans/Alum/Students of the university that can see what GOL has done for us are glad. Appreciate his accomplishments and quit being short sighted.

Was it a few years too early? Yes.
Does he deserve it? 100% Yes.

One more thing to vandalize. Actually, I've always been stunned at the absence of vandalism at UCF. There's such a feeling of pride here. When I go to conferences at big name universities, I see graffiti and vandalized stuff all over campus, especially at urban, public universities.

Here's what I don't get --

True or not, we've been told the timeline for the Big 12 to decide on expansion is within the next few months, if not sooner. So why in the hell did they choose now, of all times, to announce their decision to do something so controversial? This was obviously going to resurrect the Ereck Plancher story, the false resume story, and every other negative O'Leary story, making UCF look tone deaf and out of touch. It was also sure to spark discussion of O'Leary's record, which despite the accomplishments was very mediocre overall, and draw attention to the 0-12 season, making UCF look small-time.

Is this what we need right now, with the Big 12 watching? A nice softball for Dennis Dodd to smash into another slam piece that makes us look like clowns? (Disagree with him all you want, but a lot of national media jumped on his bandwagon). Whoever felt it was necessary to push and publicize their desire for a GOL statue now -- I just wish they would've waited.

For the 82nd time...UCF didn't "announce" anything. Story about NEXT YEAR's statue was leaked to the press.

Stop reading lies on twitter and spend more time reading comments by a respectable UCF publisher like Brandon H.

For the 83rd time, get over yourself. This is not a popular idea. Your money could be much better spent elsewhere. Why you have this unhealthy obsession with GOL I'll never understand. Fans like you who are funding something just to piss off 3/4 of the fan base are not the type we need. Ban yourself!

3/4 is not at all true. It's a freaking statue. Most people are reacting, but aren't "pissed off". Maybe the Planchers for all the wrong reasons and their scumbag lawyer. They need to let it go and move on.

I don't think people really care about a statue. Timing is poor, but who cares? Everyone is excited about First Frost, not a statue. The media, however, will take any opportunity to bring up a dead football player.
9 days! Went to Academy sports and was so psyched to see the UCF section

You're right, it's more like 99.999999999999% of the fanbase who thinks this statue is stupid and dumb.

Sorry dude.. Not the dozens of people that I've talked to. That would make 99.99999999% several million people who see it a stupid and dumb.
This board is clearly never an accurate representation of the general populating. It's the vocal minority.

Honestly I fit in this camp. What blows my mind is the timing.
If I was at lunch with someone and today they said, "UCF should make a statue for GOL". I'd laugh at them, because he was just responsible for an 0-12 season and we haven't even taken a snap for a new season yet. Here's the part that blows my mind... the real conversation didn't happen today at lunch, or yesterday... this was something that must have been talked about what weeks ago? months ago? The further back this goes, the closer it gets to 0-12 and the more mind boggling it becomes.

You're absolutely right. If you don't take into consideration the vocal minority from this board, this statue is universally thought of as a stupid and unnecessary tribute.

I need to know if this damn statue is gonna have a waterbowl for all gol's lap dogs. This is valuable info that no one wants to answer.

I'll answer this valuable, valuable "information", so you can now
sleep at night.

No.

It's going to have a hinge at the waist so you can bend it over and kiss its ass.

If you're mad about this take it out on the person who got GOL interested in UCF.

I'd like to see his statue soon as well as he had a big impact on our program!

No..., this is angry

Be glad that it's his butt that's bronze.
If it was some other part, you might hurt your vagina riding it so hard, before your bruise and rupture your uterus trying to take it down.

you seem angry that there won't be a water bowl. We could probably fundraise for one?

I'm still not clear. Do you work at McDonald's or are you so deeply disturbed that this statue is ruining your life. You seem so obsessed with the statue and a bowl. Do you have a bowl fetish??
:flush:

You keep answering. I am cool with the statue. I was just looking out for how it could best help the huggers. I've always felt that one is best served doing something right the first time. How would it look to the Big12 if we built a monument to George only to have to add something as simple as a bronze bowl after the fact? That's crazy. They'd probably toss our application in the garbage where it would rightfully belong. I am really sorry you don't see that. Truly I am. We can make this work, however.
