That last part made it all worth it.

Seriously though, I think the back story behind Gus resigning from UCF centers on the incident with Agiye Hall.

Gus had to have had knowledge of Hall's arrest and proceeded to get him enrolled at UCF anyway through UCF's football admissions office. Hall was a student at UCF for an entire semester before his enrollment was announced publicly. UCF must have had proof that Gus knew of the arrest, which in addition to the KJ Jefferson arrest (that Gus also had knowledge of), constituted unprofessional conduct, enabling UCF to fire Gus for cause.

I do not know if any of that is true. However, it simply does not make economical sense for Gus to walk away from a $12 buyout unless he knew he would lose in arbitration.

This conspiracy garbage is nuts.

There was no buyout coming. Next year was going to be bad and burry him for future jobs. This was a way around that. Thats it.

Gus actually owes us 12 mill now. Obviously they let it slide because he was a pile of trash and he cleaned up himself. No harm, no foul. If we are decent next year I don’t care if FSU does well with him. He wasn’t winning with us.

Yeah, because who needs $12 million?

Gus was going to get the money either way: by coaching and earning it on the field or 75% in a lump sum and payments afterward. If not, UCF would be guilty of breach of contract.

So again, who walks away from $12 million?

Don't be as naive as some of the mods ($1 to bozococaine)

Not how buyouts work. Buyout amounts is different based on who broke contract. His buyout was $6 million if he left UCF.

Ok he still owes it. I don’t care if he pays it. He’s gone. That’s enough. No matter who the coach is, recruiting will be good. It’s the in game coaching that changes.

He didn't walk away from 12M.

It was not coming this cycle. Next year at the earliest they would reassess.

He was going to have to show up to work and it was going to bad due to his own doing.

Another year of abysmal football and an eventual firing would kill off any future job.

With a cool $12 million in his pocket.

$ 12 buyout for Mensa Malzahn sounds about right.
