London condo catches fire

Horrific.

Parents dropping babies from 9th or 10th floor to miracle safety.

Sadly, from eye witness reports, more kids and adults, who were screaming for help from higher floor windows, probably did not get out alive from this inferno.

wow that is incredibly sad that you would have to drop your baby 9 or 10 stories hoping someone catches them because they have a better chance to survive than stay.

Confirmed death toll is now at 12.

Family members are now desperate for any info on the missing.

Exploding refrigerator is rumored to have started the blaze.

Still dozens missing, death toll will surely rise.

Crazy this could happen in a country like the UK in this day and age.

I don't know anything about refrigerators but how the hell does one "explode" to the point that it can engulf an entire building in flames in short time?

This either must have been a really old one that doesn't have modern safety features, or, this person had illegal combustible material in the "fridge" and that is the real culprit.

I remember years ago a Beirut high rise went up into flames because a Jihadi had explosive being temperature controlled in a fridge and it sparked somehow.

If older refrigerant (R40) comes in contact with aluminum can then spontaneously ignite when in contact with air. As such, it's been widely replaced by R134a, but it still exists in older refrigerators.

I'm now reading that this building had a $10M "refurbishment" last year whereby they were supposed to bring a lot of features up to code. Now they speculate that the contractor skimped on a lot of that to pocket more money. Awful.

They interviewed an architect saying there's no way a fire should spread that fast if a building is properly built to code.

There should fire retardant between the floors, fire walls between each suite/apartment and sprinklers though out. A normal house type fire shouldn't put an entire high rise up in flames.

I heard that number complaints were lodged about safety in the past few months.

Whoever was running this building should never see the light of day again.

Death toll is now at 17 and half of the building hasn't been safe to search as of yet.

Dozens are missing and officials are "hoping" that the death count doesn't reach triple digits.

The fire which broke out in the middle of the night raced up 14 floors in just the first 8 mins of the blaze, trapping so many victims on the upper floors.
