I find what Sampson has done as a coach more impressive
Ironically, we took a lot of L’s with him on the team as well. Talented player for sure, but definitely put up some empty stats. Allergic to defense, does his game translate to winning basketball (four schools in four years?)…
Hall needs more of a taskmaster for a coach….I bet Pearl won’t put up with his no D, and no pass, head down and drive 1 on 3 to the basket on O. Johnny did, Pearl won’t and that’s probably good for Hall If he wants to play at the next level.
It’s too bad for UCF’s immediate future that this team is still playing. Seems like a lot of quality players in the portal are going elsewhere, while Dawkins wins a couple meaningless games in Vegas.
Of course, a competent staff would be able to do both, focus on next year, meet with kids daily on Zoom, etc. But are we sure that’s what’s happening with UCF?

It's not meaningless if UCF could add $500k (or whatever it is) to their NIL coffers.
That’s why I was careful to say “immediate future” of UCF basketball.
The NIL money only goes to current players in this tournament. So yes, this tournament is meaningless for UCF basketball moving forward.
Obviously for the kids on this current team, the games are very important. And I’m happy for them getting some cash.
Doesn’t change my original point, that these games are meaningless when it comes to focusing on next year, etc.
I have no doubt coach can do both at once.

Who has officially said the money goes to current players? Perhaps it gets thrown into the NIL pot for future players.
As far as I know, no one has officially published that the money is going to the last hanger-ons. I wish one of our inquisitive reporters **COUGH COUGH** would clarify this with some questions.

it's going to the 8 players you see logging minutes. why would anyone who hasn't risked anything in this tournament get anything?

Ten players. The eight that have logged minutes plus Poopha (walk-on, with the team in Vegas) and E. Hulsewe (has not played this season, with them team in Vegas).
I can’t find it either. I must be reading comments or something. Maybe they will mention it during tonight’s game.
Actually, we need about $3M to start getting top guys. Houston's Basketball budget is $6M. Auburn's budget is $23M
college sports suck now. When it was illegal there was shoe companies and sponsors buying players. Now that it’s legal they want fans to pay? I don’t really feel good about buying players.
The tournament is the definition of player first, school second. Would be interesting to find out if the players put more work/effort into this tournament vs. playing all season.

Look for the Knights to be involved here. Heavily involved in his recruitment coming out of HS. Ironically, his three finalists out of HS were Alabama (where he went his freshmen year), Villanova (where he just transferred from), and UCF.

Mikey Williamscwants to go to a school where he plays a lot and offense features him. I don’t see a power school getting him with that. He’s visiting UNLV. Good luck.
Redshirted at Alabama. Played in Villanova’s rotation behind a group of seniors. Not a lot of minutes.
Three years of eligibility left. Probably wouldn’t take a ton of NIL$ to get him here.
Worst Nova team in years and he didn’t play much. I don’t know about him.
He looks little on tv but he’s listed at 6-3 195 I think. He doesn’t look that size. He looks 6-0 175.
The crazy thing is the players get supplemented by Nike and State Farm etc. Copper from Duke gets most of his money from outside deals not Duke

Jamichael Stillwell seems to be UCF’s top priority right now. He’s visiting campus this weekend. Looks like we’re in the running, along with Oklahoma and Memphis.
First-team All-Horizon League, seventeen double-doubles last season, averaged 13.0/10.7. Had a double-double in Orlando against UCF this past season. Could pair nicely alongside Thiam.
