Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal Open Thread

Thiam becomes the latest Knight to hit the portal. Ten other UCF players have submitted their names and looked for new destinations.

The full list: Jordan Ivy-Curry, Keyshawn Hall, Nils Machowski, Jaylin Sellers, Tyler Hendricks, Mikey Williams, Rokas Jocius, Cameron Simpson, JJ Taylor and Dior Johnson.

Johnny Dawkins’ squad has also made six additions: Mississippi State’s Riley Kugel, Georgetown’s Jordan Burks, Hampton’s George Beale Jr., Milwaukee’s Themus Fulks and Jamichael Stillwell and Ole Miss’ John Bol.

"It would be incredibly embarrassing for you guys if lowly Cincinnati bodies UCF for your best prospect."

If you can't beat them then buy them out. -Cincy :p

Dawkins has his entire roster leaving, zero HS recruits in this class, AND his own assistant coaches brokering deals to find Thiam a new home under Johnny’s watch?

Fire everyone, starting with Terry.

Or back to the American. We are not a serious athletics program at the moment.

Which coach brokered the deal ? Thanks

‘But he’s a nice guy!’

Which coach was that ? Thanks

I guarantee he gets fired as he should
He’s not getting fired because Cincinnati is hiring him and he’s taking Thiam. The coach is from Senegal just like Thiam. The really tall guy with the African name.

Wang was from my high school n he visited UM when he can down for the Kreul Classic in Coral Springs
Yeah…Coach L was great but he was old school and not built for the new era. It takes energy, and the commitment to grind 24/7. Coach L was old, financially well off and should have retired a couple of years ago…great guy.

Hopefully, Lucas can get us on the right track. This last year was beyond bad and embarrassing.

Also, the word is that Johnny’s main assistant shopped himself and Thiam for months as a 2 for 1 deal and Johnny never found out about it until it was too late.

By all accounts, JD is a nice guy but he’s a mediocre to bad coach and is obviously not respected. It would be insane if he’s brought back. Just objectively saying…not trolling you guys with this.

It was about a few years when he got Miami in the final four. Great coach. Got a CAA college member in the final four before UM Has great values that contradicted the new era of college athletics, though real good man.

Back in his day, he was a great player at Providence. That was a long time ago.

Are you talking about Mamadou N'Diaye? I don't see him on the UCF basketball website anymore. This would be awful if true. I hope I am wrong.

Yeah the African connection is trying to get paid himself. I’d fire Dawkins and say it’s Because of all the transfers. The players supposedly like him do letbthem know they are the reason he got fired. How many schools lost every single person that played the year prior? Can’t be many.

It is all about the $$. That is why high school recruiting really doesn't matter anymore. No one has loyalty to anyone or place anymore. Only concern is $$$ and self. Schools don't care about players other than what they can make on them, Players don't care about schools or coaches. Getting harder and harder to be a fan who does care.

The NIL is bad , the constant portal is putting gas on the fire. Sad

Only finally beat Cincy earlier this month (after several losses in a row!). Cincy was RANKED a lot earlier this season, extremely talented, but team chemistry DIDN'T FIT. But Cincy is a dying Midwest city with non-wealthy alums; Thiam is a sure NBA lottery (#1 next year?), and UCF is broke (poor, young alums). Don't be surprised if a BIDDING WAR (the biggest ever for college hoopster transfer). Moustapha talent (shooting stroke, agility, endurance, speed, shot block timing, and new ability to avoid any fouling) have no upper limit. His sophomore season could ensure a national championship run for any rich school!

It's not a good look for Johnny, with all the guys going into the portal, but his assistant coach working against him (while on our payroll) is the ultimate slap in the face.....as good a people person as he is, it's obvious Johnny has no idea what's going on and how to build and run a highly competitive P4 basketball program.

I am just saddened by the number of players that transferred out this year. I have no answers. Money?? Dawkins? WTH is going on!

I'm just shocked after I heard Thiam was out.

All these "rules" get changed drastically each year. Honor can't and doesn't exist in sports. Only personal loyalty, which just as unfair and slimy. So "convenient." It's always been BUSINESS, unrelated to education and financially insulated, too, via Sports Foundations (e.g., drastic state budget cuts to universities has NO EFFECT on sports program budgets!).

Does he play at IMG? His Dad was good.
He played in California (he's from LA, the Hollywood area) where he was a good player. He went to IMG for a post grad year, so I don't believe he played on the team at IMG or anywhere in 2024-25. He was invited to an all-star tourney or 2 after the 2023-24 season. Kind of reminds me of a young Darius....here's a couple of videos from MaxPreps.....
