Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal Open Thread

If Thiam leaves for a big money offer from Duke… can’t blame the guy at all. It would certainly change my perspective if he got an offer from one of those blue bloods instead of leaving here for, say, Cinci
I mean, money is money. What’s the difference, a school with more money than us offered him a bag and he took it. Can’t blame him…

Now…in theory, even our broke school should have some money to spend.

Thiam had to be set to get the largest NIL deal on the roster heading into next season. Now that he’s moving on, that should free up more cash to use on some players that have been a little more productive and highly thought of than the ones we’ve been bringing in. You would think, right?

No I think it just means the small amount of money we were paying him last year, will be used to cobble together another team of has-beens, wash-outs or below-average talent in route to another cellar-dwelling team for the 3rd/4th year a row.

Interesting point.

He who has and pays gets. High school recruiting really doesn't matter anymore. raise all the $$ you can, then go shopping.

And quit blaming the players. They are doing exactly what they should do. Chasing the $$$. Many of them will make more money before turning 21 than the rest of their lives.

Saying HS recruiting doesn’t matter anymore is coping.

UCF can’t have it both ways. They can’t act like Broke U and bargain shop in the portal, while also bringing in ZERO HS recruits in this class.

Maybe the portal matters more to some programs (more so than others) that have $. But D. Johnson, Taylor Hendricks, and Thiam all came to UCF from HS. That’s three of the top 3-4 players we’ve had in the program in the last half decade. We’re getting very little out of the portal (I’m wasn’t a fan of K. Hall), seems unacceptable to also give up on HS recruits too.

Interesting one here. Freeman was dismissed from the team at ASU this past season (conduct detrimental). Arizona State HC is Bobby Hurley, who played at Duke (connection with Dawkins). Does that help or hurt the likelihood of this happening.

Don’t love that UCF has become second chance U. But at least Freeman can really play, unlike reclamation projects M. Williams, Dior Johnson, etc. Freeman has quite the impressive collegiate resume.

Meanwhile, Mikey Williams is planning his next double shooting.

Eventually bringing on these types of young men will backfire on Dawkins.

If he joins us, built in chemistry can't hurt...and hopefully his dismissal is a thing of the past...we'll see. Here's some discussion about him from an ASU podcast after his dismissal... https://www.whas11.com/video/sports...ball/535-e12a3cf5-6645-4373-888a-9341068a23a8

Freeman is what this roster desperately needs.
22 points against Baylor, 26 vs UCF, 21 at Texas Tech, 21 vs TCU this past season.

Scored 20+ points THIRTY times from 2022-2024 at Milwaukee, including a handful of 30+ point games.

You would at least have some legitimate proven starters in Fulks, Kugel, Freeman, and Stillwell to build around…Get it done!
