Mikey Keene

Remember Mack winning 1 game the fans really wanted and is now a back up QB at Old Dominion? That is Keene’s path, he isn’t good enough to be a conference contending QB

One game is waayy differnt than a UCFreshmen QB season stats that are much better than UCF legend KZ.

Keene can improve. Just like KZ and Bortles did.

Let's be happy about the win and pause for a moment on being critical of a 18 year old who helped win us a big game

Putting up the SAME post in different threads does not make Keene a better fit for the offense.
I’m getting weird deja vu seeing this ESPN link over and over again this morning… “how did I end back up in this thread?”

Ignoring the UCFacts doesn't make you less of a crappy UCFan.

You're just wrong and want to be a terrible UCFan.

Anything could happen here, but the most likely scenario is they can put up 30 on our defense, but we can't score that much on their defense.

We lose 34-24

Since many UCFans clearly aren't looking at the UCFacts. Clearly too lazy too. Let's help them out. Blind look. Which Freshman stats are who's

I’ve defended Keene as much as anyone, but a lot of his potential comes from the somewhat random and unpredictable improvement that freshmen make, as opposed to a lot of signs of superstar potential.

Keene CAN run, make reads, make big throws. I think it’s fair for fans to speculate that he won’t be able to do all three consistently.

If he did make that leap, I would be ecstatic. But the longer we go with the current level of consistency, the less likely that becomes.

That's UCFair. I think we can agree that Keene has earned an opportunity for next year.

I hope the opportunity includes competing with one or more transfer QBs with skill sets that fit the offense....

I hope you go to all the Spring Practices and UCFall practices to see the QB competition and post about it here like I did for years. I learned a bunch going through that process. I'm sure you would as well.

Yeah, most of us have these things called jobs.....hard to tell Clients I'm going to need to slip the schedule on their multi-billion dollar chemical plant to watch some practices.

I’ve been very critical of Keene, probably not fair to the kid. I do commend him, being a true freshman thrown into the fire isn’t easy I have no doubt. He was a winner in HS, he does a good job of not turning the ball over, managing the game I guess. With that said, everyone in my section last night, both UCF and UF folks, thought the qb play was brutal. The UF guys that came with my group never saw him play before, they were laughing at how tiny he was and how someone that tiny could be so slow and play qb with no arm.

He’s a serviceable backup, but the kind you hope never has to play unless it’s a blowout.

It's called priorities. I put going to practices and those meals with the coaches as a top priority for years.

I listened and learned and shared what I learned with this board.

Where we are different is I never said to any player he wasn't a good fit for us. When you see people as people rather than UCFaceless players, you understand lots more.

I hope when you see Mikey in person like all real fans should do, is thank him for all the hard work and effort he has put into the program.

Again, I am only being critical to posters who have been critical to our players who helped us win a big bowl game.

You started good, then lost it half way through.

Don't let gaytors shape your opinion. They are old school has been. We are the UCFuture of UCFootball. They would probably say the same about that really good Oklahoma QB who is short. And they most certainly would have said the same about KZ during his UCFreshman year.

UCFans should be sticking up for 18 years olds who are part of our UCFamily.

Not a single person on this board has written anything negative about Keene as a person, that he hasn't worked hard, or done his best.

The truth is that he was recruited by another coach who valued a certain skillset that doesn't fit what Gus is looking for....happens all the time.

We need QBs that fit our system.

I think Mikey played damn well considering that he’s five months out of HS. He may not have had a bunch of Gabriel, like 300 yard 3-4 TD passing games but made big throws to keep the chains moving and score enough points to win…and he also did make big time throws for TDs.

I want Gus to bring in talented players to compete for every position including QB. Bring in other QBs and may the best player win the job. Everyone saying Mikey’s garbage better expect the same Dillon Gabriel like numbers from other QBs…I’ve already read one of his biggest critics on this forum paving the road with excuses for Castellanos….something to the effect of we can expect mistakes, but he’ll be “exciting”…but Mikey isn’t afforded the same?

I like Mikey’s composure, attitude, and performance as a true freshman. ..but in the end ..bring in competition and may the best player win…and this year Mikey was our best QB after Dillon went out….he beat out everyone..including the big star recruit and may end up being pretty good…time will tell.

And thank goodness it’s up to Gus and not the negative Nancy, know nothings on this forum Who have a 50/50 chance of being right about their opinion and are just guessing about player talent because the only experience they have evaluating an athlete is on Madden football.

Give the kid credit…he’s earned it. Mikey had a solid season at this point in any true freshman’s development…and won a lot of games as our QB…none bigger than against..UF And despite what the naysayers say…he was a big part of our win over UF and most of our wins This season…may the best man win the QB job next season…I just want wins…don’t care who the starting qb is named..I don’t think Mikey’s afraid of competition.

I think you missed my points…I was admitting to being overly critical, whereas justifiably so, and I do respect what Keene has done being a true freshman. No one has shaped my opinion, they had an unbiased opinion of Keene’s talent and abilities. I share those same opinions b/c I’ve had to painstakingly watch it all season.

This is what fans who recognize we need a talent upgrade are saying...we only have 4 scholarship QBs, including TC and Gatewood. And we are losing Brito also.

If Keene then wins the job because he is able to modify his skill set, fantastic.

So you are homo-phobic as well....damn what a piece of work.

When you lose on UCFacts calling me homophobic is an ad hominem fallacy.

College teaches you that these type of attacks proves you're wrong

Even if you think Keene is the guy (I don’t) you should want a transfer to come in and compete along w Castellanos. You don’t limit your options as a Program

Who was calling for transfers when KZ and Bortles at the helm?

Only people who don't think our starter is good is calling for transfers

More gibberish....you're using a term in an offensive way, in addition to all the name calling. Think you better go out and watch some practices now before your credibility sinks further.

I think we’re all mostly on the same page. Keene had some flashes, but was not stellar this year. But we don’t have anyone better on the roster. So we’re hopeful that Tommy Casto looks great or Keene greatly improves, but until then, we work with what we have.

What the hell does this even mean? Our guys were being held all game last night. For an "educated" person, your writing skills need improvement.

No, we are losing 3 QBs from our team, only replaced 1 of them...and Gatewood would benefit from a change of position.....we desperately need more depth and more talent.

No, this is not what fans who think they can evaluate talent are saying…those of you are saying anyone is better than Mikey…which is obviously not true as he’s already beat out four other QBs on the roster…and trash the kid incessantly for not having Gabriel like numbers as a true freshman…unrealistic expectations from know nothing armchair fans

Exactly.

I guarantee you wouldn't here this trash in Dungeon either.

People who have been close to the progam for years aren't trashing on Kenne. Only new UCFans or Fairweather fans are this critical and certain that know more.

Wait till they get a load of this guy we have waiting in the wings. He's a massive athletic dude, I'm talking 6'5", 220 lbs of 4-star stud. His name is Joey Gatewood and he throws the rock....wait. No, no he can't throw. But he is BIG 😁

The funny part about that was he didn't look his size, unlike Mack for example. Several times during the telecast last night they mixed Gatewood and Navarro up.

Pretty much yes. I'm rooting for him. I was excited when we signed him, and I still think he can put things together with a solid offseason program to put on some mass. That said I don't see him truly flourishing in Gus' system. I really believe this is Castellanos' role to lose even though he's yet to set foot in the building. He's a winner though, love the attitude and character. Just needs to grow up a bit physically.

Spelling aside....yikes

Seems like many longstanding fans like myself have recognized that after another QB left that the QB room was pretty bare, and now gets more bare with 2 others moving on.

Well said, but I hope TC gets a redshirt year (after playing in 4 games) to acclimate to the college game. Hence the need for transfers....

That's just because they are idiots. Repeatedly said UF was getting the ball to start the 2nd half and defended a UF player who punched a guy in the back of the head.

You're right but as this season has shown we need a reliable backup QB and one that doesn't take a nosedive into the turf when they are running in the open field. Sorry I like both QBs from Arizona but couldn't help that dig. That footage is classic of him plowing up the artificial turf :)

Please don’t start the “happy turds” debate again… we have already litigated that it is offensive… and Honors, whether you are buying or selling on Keene, let’s all please retire that Gators pejorative. For Christmas’ sake!

Not sure which part you’re disagreeing with.

No one is saying we’re awash with QB talent. But UF just played Emory Freakin’ Jones against us, possibly the worst passer I’ve ever seen, even though they get their pick of the recruits.

Everyone is looking for a stud QB, everyone is looking for a genius coach. We work with what we have. We have Keene until someone better comes along. I don’t really see the point in complaining when there are no easy solutions.

I think my big takeaway from the game was more confidence in Gus’s play calling. Watching him work over the Gators mentally and physically and utilize our weapons to open up space when Keene wasn’t great gave me a lot of confidence in the future.

Any time everyone in the stadium knows that the next play will be a run up the middle and it works, someone did something right. Malzahn made a decent season out of very little. Excited to see what the offense looks like with his guys.
Other than playing Gatewood. He should never be playing under any Circumstances.
