Mikey Keene

Not sure which part you’re disagreeing with.

No one is saying we’re awash with QB talent. But UF just played Emory Freakin’ Jones against us, possibly the worst passer I’ve ever seen, even though they get their pick of the recruits.

Everyone is looking for a stud QB, everyone is looking for a genius coach. We work with what we have. We have Keene until someone better comes along. I don’t really see the point in complaining when there are no easy solutions.
I had the feeling you were content in what we have now....

Gus better be working the phones calling portal guys to improve what we have at QB all day today, using his cell phone like his hair is on fire.

I’m pretty sure he is. I’ve not gotten the impression that he’s a slouch at recruiting. But someone like Tommy Casto can be intimidating to transfers. They don’t know if he’s going to be great and bury them on the depth chart.

Patience is different from contentment.

Why do you think TC is acting in the way he is? These "kids" have a bunch of coaches advising them.

It's in the HS coach's interest to advise HS players because then they can add to their resume.

You actually believe this? He a 3 star that most programs only recruited as a RB.

I'm not saying he clears the field, but transfers are looking for any excuse not to go somewhere. We're not the best place to make money, If you're a pocket passer, we already have one with more experience in the coach's system than you. If you are dual-threat, we have one coming in that people are excited about, that the coach has hand-picked.

Most transfer QBs are looking for places where they can make money and get plenty of rope to make mistakes and learn the system. They also want to win now and we're in a transitional time with a new coaching staff, no QB coach, and a lame duck season coming up.

No, I don't think we're the most attractive situation. We're better than a lot of teams with an entrenched starter, but there are a lot of other schools that have better pitches than us.

I really value limiting turnovers. It's something we take for granted but will lose games just as fast as anything else.
Agree.....remember that hideous game at ECU when we turned the ball over on 6 straight possessions, and they has Chris Johnson so it wasn't like they needed the extra help.

Pretty sure it was 48 yards.....still sucks because at the time he was less than 3 yrds per attempt.
Sometimes after 3-4 werk layoff before bowl game, timing is off.

Remember the Peach Bowl? Milton was just 3-17 for 30 yds in the first half.

That was Milton's worst first half performance of the season but he improved in the 2nd half.

Good news is both then Soph Milton and true Freshmen Keene lead the Knights to a great victory!

Keene (first UCF QB to beat the Gatorams) now joins KZ as 2 QBs who will never have to buy a beer ever in Orlando!!

I know it was the Gators, and I’m equally of the opinion that both Keene and Mack are not great, but Mack’s performance in the AAC Championship is way above what Keene did two days ago.

It was certainly a more meaningful game because of what it represented (conference championship and a NY6 game) than a pre-Christmas bowl.

Mack had a dream half that day....

He also had one of the worst first half too...as he had 3 turnovers and 2 other fumbles.

Mack was also throwing to NFL Receivers and had a healthy stable of RBs.

Mack had an amazing 2nd half...something he was never able to duplicate again...at UCF nor while at Old Dominion.

Keene was steady almost all season long....completing 64% of his passes in the bowl game with ZERO INTs.

Keene for the season completed 64% of his passes, had 17 TD passes and had just 6 INTs all season long (1 INT for every 45.3 passes...excellent 1st year ratio).

In 3 games this season, Gabriel threw an INT every 34 passes.

It's amazing how some with the strongest negative opinions ignore the stats and UCFacts

Thanks for brining in comparisons, stats and more UCFacts in this thread, my UCFriend.

Keene had a great UCFreshman year.

To think KZ transferred to give DG the starting role and to see DG squander this gift for so called "greener pastures" is a little shallow imo. But if he didn't want to play for UCF we don't want him so goodbye and good luck.
It's way too easy to transfer with the new rules. I was hoping DG would had backed out after Ole Miss fell through. Of course I don't know what the teams reaction was when he announced. I wish him the best next year.

Mack was shockingly bad at ODU and they were extremely happy to have him there. I started following their YouTube channel just to watch him and man, I'll always love him but he is awful.

thought the same and I think he probably thought about it but pride/arrogance won out. he posted ‘peace of mind’ looking for reassurance

Hey, Laramie is a wonderful place to live! I taught at the Univ. of Wyo for 12 years and it is a fine institution with a great deal to offer. It is, however, only for the hardy, You can't find better hunting or fishing or camping! I loved it!
It is a beautiful place but winters are brutal. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania so I am vary familiar with cold winters but nothing like Wyoming. I skied, snowmobiled and hunted but I longed for warmer weather and the beaches as well as the attractions and knight life. I don't think most young guys want to play in the cold but with global warming who knows.

You can go to beach, lay out and do summer sports in every state. You can’t do snow sports in every state.

No butts hurt here bub

You're the only poster here I have seen use the dislike button. And you have gotten super defensive. Even when someone said "cut the 18 year some slack".

That is definition of but hurt bub, noob

You act like you’re some sort of scholar yet you don’t know how to spell “butt”. Go back to practice bub.

So now we are getting feelings hurt for disliking or disagreeing with someone’s comments? Is this Russia? Not defensive, it’s called not agreeing, which is when one would dislike. Seems like you are the the one new to social media….AND a crazy person at that.

Pot calling kettle black
Says the guy who got all butt hurt when I simply said Cincinnati was a dirty cesspool of a city ( which is an absolute FACT)? You’re really not the pot to call a kettle black either buddy, you get in your feelings more than most here.

That's alot of words to say you're not butthurt.

The ad hominem at the end says everything. You're butthurt and UCFactually incorrect with your posts

I don't expect any transfer QB to come here and become the starter. Now I can see adding to the QB depth chart. I really see Keene as the starter and Caslellanos getting some time but ultimately red shirting. Time will tell for sure.

In all honesty, Keene surprised me with his play during the bowl game. Not a lot of highs , but also not a lot of lows, just a steady game from start to finish. His throws, most of the time, still seem to swan dive before reaching his target, for some reason. Hope that gets corrected, and he makes a big jump next year.

The game has not slowed down for Keene. It's a lot to ask a true freshman to start. I hope next year he can go through his progressions. If his primary is not open he holds the ball and bad things tended to happen when he does. Kudos that he started to throw the ball away.

Think MM would be a good add as a GA coach. He could help with Keene's throwing motion. Like MM when he was a true freshman, Keene needs to have a more efficient release.

My Man played a solid, disciplined game. Hit the passes we needed to win. Missed a few throws, held the ball too long on a few plays. What I notice about him, I feel like he is Very Disciplined. He does not gamble much, especially for a true freshman.
He missed 2 out of 3 clear TDs.
Luckily Jones missed 3 out of 3 clear TDs.

MK's a freshman, and that is expected.
Jones? He wasn't a freshman, far from it! ;)

I hope MK makes the type of KZ leap in '22.
If not, maybe we'll have another step-in.

I look forward to the qb competition. I want to see if Castellonos is all they say he is. I just hope there is a clear distinction between the guy who is chosen #1 versus the #2.

Watching Mikey Keene scramble is like watching C-3PO run up the ramp on the Millennium Falcon — stiff!!!
There was that one long run that even surprised Coach Gus and certainly didn't look stiff then.

People forget DG was a pocket passer and didn't scramble his freshman year as well.

KZ did, but he got crap yardage compared to year 2.
