We can thank George W. Bush for this.
I'm actually surprised it was a 5-4 vote. I expected it to be a wider margin.
There are many who would debate whether or not this is a conservative court. Especially those vying for the GOP nod.
PS- not sure what the GWB reference is. Kennedy was the 5th vote and he was nominated by Reagan.
That's Ronald Reagan- yet another evil right wing fanatic.
as you said its a talking point...maybe now we wont have to hear about it in the upcoming elections...knowing republicans they will say ho they will fight it to defend marriage...say hello to your new hillary overlord ....More far right extremist policy from the most dangerous conservative court in US history!
Oh- is that liberal talking point now over with following rulings that they personally agree with?

Really? You should see some statements made by GOP candidates right about now. Doubling down and talking about taking away rights. The usual idiotic talking points.Actually that's entirely wrong. This gives complete cover to Republicans who would rather not deal with the issue or personally favor allowing same sex marriage. They don't have to deal with their right wing bases anymore and they can say "Hey, the SC made their ruling and that's that!"
This is really the best thing to happen to Republicans since it effectively removes gay marriage as an issue. It's well documented that a lot of legislators favored this 100% behind closed doors so they could get their ring wind base off their backs about it.
Politically it's also a loss for Democrats. They can't play gay marriage culture war anymore and now will have to face off on other topics.

And there always will be for some people.Yeah, there is some stupid shit being uttered out there right now.
of course they favored it behind closed doors, but i can almost guarantee it becomes an issue in the primaries...a lot of old right wing blue hairs want to hear that their candidate hates the geys like them...Actually that's entirely wrong. This gives complete cover to Republicans who would rather not deal with the issue or personally favor allowing same sex marriage. only if you and dingy start arguing over when to take the leap....8 pages.
You obviously haven't been paying attention. Then again, you're dumb. #factonly if you and dingy start arguing over when to take the leap....
Better yet, now all the straight couples can quit having gay babies since the gay couples are going to!!!!!!! #scienceYay! Now they can go through a painful divorce just like straight couples.
.
You disturb me.Terrible week to be a bigotted Republican!!
Confederate flags being removed, Obamacare lives, and now gays can marry! Good to see these morons on the wrong side of history, again and again
And for divorce lawyers, it was Friday.Divorce lawyers are dancing in the streets.
"What do you mean you want me to sign a pre-nup just for your clothes???"Yay! Now they can go through a painful divorce just like straight couples.
.
Eh, the Republicans freed the slaves...Good to see these morons on the wrong side of history, again and again
"What do you mean you want me to sign a pre-nup just for your clothes???"
I would think the GOP of today has very little in common to the Republicans of the mid 1800s. The Civil Rights Era saw a massive shift of southern Democrat racists (Dixiecrats) to the Republican party where that alignment is still pretty much entrenched. Many blacks, of course, migrated to the Democratic party.Eh, the Republicans freed the slaves...
Get out of here with your facts!I would think the GOP of today has very little in common to the Republicans of the mid 1800s. Edit: UCFKNIGHTS88, yes. I'm not sure how states got around that previously. Probably just ignored the law. Some states fought to deny divorces of same sex marriages from other states because they said they don't recognize gay marriages in the first place. I think they lost in open court too. But now it doesn't matter as same sex marriage is the law of the land.
and look where that got us...Eh, the Republicans freed the slaves...
Don't know where is this place the we "got to" nor that's the point I'm trying to make, just saying his innitial statement is wrong. And we didn't get "here", wherever "here" is because of Republicans or Democrats, we got "here", which apparently isn't a good place, because of stupid people. You should know a thing or two about that.and look where that got us...
