Since this surely won't be enough, I eagerly await the left to go into hysterics about the fact that it was a 5-4 decision. Merely being handed yet another victory by a conservative court is not enough- the want uniform adherence to their viewpoints.
PS- not sure what the GWB reference is. Kennedy was the 5th vote and he was nominated by Reagan.

There are many who would debate whether or not this is a conservative court. Especially those vying for the GOP nod.
Unlike the HuffPo will instantly report, this wasn't just a "do you favor gay marriage: yes or no?". The legal case had a myriad of constitutional and legal considerations that probably extended beyond just the immediate "front page" issue at hand. Justices have dissented in the past based upon complexities within an issue when not disagreeing with the larger issue on hand.
Oh but it was! Remember after Citizens United and a few rulings that didn't please liberals? IT WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS CONSERVATIVE COURT IN OUR NATION'S HISTORY!!! Full of right wing fanatics who were paid by the Kochs and intent on destroying the country!

Yes, I know about Kennedy. I mean that under the Chief Justice that GWB appointed, it's been a mean and evil court that has stripped everyone of their basic human rights.

Actually that's entirely wrong. This gives complete cover to Republicans who would rather not deal with the issue or personally favor allowing same sex marriage. They don't have to deal with their right wing bases anymore and they can say "Hey, the SC made their ruling and that's that!"
This is really the best thing to happen to Republicans since it effectively removes gay marriage as an issue. It's well documented that a lot of legislators favored this 100% behind closed doors so they could get their ring wind base off their backs about it.
Politically it's also a loss for Democrats. They can't play gay marriage culture war anymore and now will have to face off on other topics.
Cant wait to hear the news about people getting divorces because their marriage has not meaning now.

Isn't there a clause in the constitution that says other states have to recognize other states licenses? Like you can drive in any state with any license. Would that transfer to marriage?
I would think the GOP of today has very little in common to the Republicans of the mid 1800s. The Civil Rights Era saw a massive shift of southern Democrat racists (Dixiecrats) to the Republican party where that alignment is still pretty much entrenched. Many blacks, of course, migrated to the Democratic party.
Edit: UCFKNIGHTS88, yes. I'm not sure how states got around that previously. Probably just ignored the law. Some states fought to deny divorces of same sex marriages from other states because they said they don't recognize gay marriages in the first place. I think they lost in open court too. But now it doesn't matter as same sex marriage is the law of the land.
I can see why chemmie is so utterly butthurt:

Don't know where is this place the we "got to" nor that's the point I'm trying to make, just saying his innitial statement is wrong. And we didn't get "here", wherever "here" is because of Republicans or Democrats, we got "here", which apparently isn't a good place, because of stupid people.
