Okay, but that has nothing to do with what I’ve been writing. Training staff may have said he was ready, absolutely. I never said he wasn’t healthy in November.

What I asked about was the article stating that Gabriel refused to play when he got healthy, quitting like people think he did. How do we definitively know it wasn’t the coaches that told him he wouldn’t be dressing (for the betterment of the program)? Without the proof, it’s unnecessary drama from a few fans.
What you’re forgetting (or perhaps you never saw) was when coaches and trainers were voicing their excitement about getting DG back on the field towards the end of regular season. But DG goes on camera and never voices any excitement or anticipation about playing and was always downplaying his recovery even though it was obvious that he was ready. His excuses sounded lame and you could see the staff starting to sour on him late in the season when questioned by media.
But I’ll grant you that it‘s much easier to understand it all in hindsight… especially if you re-watch the show.

I'd tend to believe he never told the school he was transferring during the season or he'd be dropped like a stone. Just look at every other player who entered the portal. They ceased to be listed. (Could be wrong on that).

Interesting, I’ll check it out. I’ll be happy to admit I was wrong, I just don’t like piling on and openly rooting against a kid that simply transferred to a situation he perceived to be better for him, like hundreds of players around the country did.

I don’t see the same kind of nastiness for Bethune, who also left a position of leadership to follow a previous coach & more NIL opportunities. Or Robinson, who took valuable reps away from younger receivers all spring, just to announce he’s transferring literally the day after he showcased himself.

BTW, I wish anyone that transfers the best, I wouldn’t ever openly root against a kid. This isn’t the 1960’s. I think we all need to get a little more adjusted/acclimated to players that may not always be around campus for four years.

Please endulge and elaborate on how he got that nickname.
He sold socks with his name/likeness this year as a NIL opportunity.

Grown men actually bought them and wore another person’s name/face on their feet, now they’re upset about it.

Believe me, I was also very perplexed by Bethune’s decision. He was big dog on campus and seemed to be relishing his role as the top linebacker stud towards the end of the season. We sat near his Mom and family at Gasparilla Bowl and I watched him celebrate joyfully with his fraternity brothers, teammates and family members after the bowl win. He was really happy and dancing along the sidelines like he was on top of the world. Just couldn’t understand his decision to take his final year to FSU even if Shannon was trying hard to lure him away. Sometimes young men just make silly decisions. I know I made some head scratchers back in my day.

What a loser! I bet all those defending him still wear those socks to this day.

Pretty sure the only people that would buy the socks are the ones so emotionally invested in the decisions of college kids that they begrudge them.

Most normal people would give their money to the program as oppose to buying silly merchandise from a college kid. Since the kids actually just pass through for a couple years tops.

Tatum did not quit on the team and neither did Robinson. In fact Robinson came back even though he was still hurt. I think Tatum's move probably was not wise because I am not sure FSU is the place to be right now. Unsure about J-flash. But both of those players played out and transferred after the season.

I cannot blame a kid for transferring because he is not getting playing time or does not like the system or the coach. But anytime a player leaves "because it is better for him (i.e. I want to play at a bigger program") then I will not wish that player the best. I am not a twitter stalker or anything like that, but I will cry no tears if they sit the bench or fail wherever they go. But in no case is it ok to quit on your team during the season.

I was upset with the way that Louisville punked us in that game with some dirty shots.
I was upset with how DG would look so good in many games but just couldn't get that last winning drive in some very big, close games.

We need to be ready for Louisville this year because that team will try the same stuff on us but I'm hoping that home field advantage will carry us over the top.

I don't have to worry anymore about DG's inability of getting us over the top in big, close games :)

I understand some of y'alls disappointment in DG but I don't have the energy to invest myself in how it went down or how he'll do at OU. At this point what does it matter to us? Unless we play OU with him at QB of course.

This is a message board and it is the off-season after all….and Sockass rubbed a lot of ppl the wrong way, he came off self interested and disingenuous. I always liked him, but this NIL stuff changed the game and the players for the worst, which I predicted would happen. I bet he does well at OU (which I think he will put up stats but will he still lose the big games?) and he will go down as one of the most if not THE most hated ex-UCF players. I think the disdain is warranted.

Not a buyer, but I'm betting most bought them trying to get into the modern times of buying players. You might think it's wrong, and everyone's trying to say it's not happening, but shining up a turd still means it's a turd. School's with $$$ are buying players.

Really wonder why so many are invested in 'wishing him the best'. Do they wish Jacob Sirmon the same? To me, he's as valuable/important as Sirmon, with the one exception of Sirmon didn't quite/leave UCF., and yes you're not supposed to know who Sirmon is.

I wish him the best because I’m not going to hate the kid and act like a scorned middle schooler…..and he’s insignificant to UCF’s future QB position….why should anyone wish him ill will?….fine if you hope he sucks, gets cancer or whatever hex you want to put on him…you can do that.... He’s not playing QB for us…and he obviously doesn’t really care what UCF fans think either…..I loved watching him throw for four+ TDs and 300-400 yards a game, I wish he was still at UCF and always thought he played his heart out for us…I’m not gonna hate him after that… so….get over it already….move on….or go ahead and hold on to being.bitter bitter bitter…I just don’t think it’s justified…don’t have to be invested..just common sense

I don't even care what happens with him. I just find it amusing when fans talk about how bad he is/was, that he is what held the program back, and will be benched immediately at Oklahoma.

It's like a guy who broke up with his gf and tells his friends how she was ugly, gross, and smelled as friends point out he slept with her for the last two years and constantly bragged about how great the relationship was.

There’s way more to the story that was posted in the Dungeon, regarding how he treated Mikey Keene and his teammates. He was very disingenuous.

Additionally, there was a very condescending post by his mother in regards to UCF, it’s brand of football, the schedule with “meaningless games” vs usf etc., and the fanbase. That’s a reflection on DG.

You can take the high road if you want, but let fans have their own opinions. Remember, fans is short for fanatics. Many feel disrespected. FWIW, I don’t buy NIL items like socks

This is what passionate fans do. SEC fans poison the other team’s trees. Lol. We are very tame.

Please just stop with the jilted GF comparison. That’s so apples and oranges. Many complained about him while he was here. He couldn’t win the big games, and he was a Heupel system, long bomb, stat machine who threw his share of pick 6s and slid yards before the nearest defender, avoided contact like the plague, etc. That’s not saying that he’s expected to run over every defender by any means

I will be cheering for UCF every week, but if I happen to be watching an Oklahoma game, I do not wish him the best. Same goes for Flash for a variety of similar reasons

Well stated. I agree with the “sock dick” tag. Kid was definition of a me first player.

One would think then he would be easily beat out by another QB then. Bad teammate, bad leader, weak player. Why did Malzahn bother persuading him to stay? Why would Oklahoma and Lebby take a chance on him?

Every take away is he is mediocre system QB that was a lockerroom cancer, but was still steered as the face of the program by those in charge of the program.

He was clearly the best UCF QB. Nobody has denied that or said that he sucked. He couldn’t win any big games by carrying the team as it’s QB. Tulsa owned him. So did Cincinnati to a lesser degree.

He clearly showed his true colors when he didn’t HAVE TO CARE and that’s very two faced. He was all about the NIL. Let Oklahoma and Lebby deal with him. He’s getting big NIL money and now he’s playing with the “big boys,” so now once again, he’s a model teammate and a stand up guy. Time will tell what he really is. FWIW, remember UCLA? Of course not. I even forgot. He led Titus there and screwed him too

DG is about DG. That’s totally fine, but some don’t have to wish him the best. We are fans

Gabriel is a perfect fit for Oklahoma.

He has a head coach who *thinks* he can find retribution in Norman because he FAILED as a defensive coordinator under Bob Stoops and he left for Clemson ONLY after Stoops had announced his decision to demote him: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...tor-brent-venables-explains-why-left-oklahoma

(Ironically, Venables ended up at Clemson as defensive coordinator ONLY after he interviewed for the head coaching job and was passed over for Dabo Swinney. The Clemson leadership told Dabo to approach the DC job to Venables and he accepted in lieu of being demoted.)

He has an offensive coordinator who has rode the coat tails of great offensive minds everywhere he has been. At Baylor, Art and Kendal Briles ran the show. At UCF, it was Josh Heupel's offense. At Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin pulled the strings. Lebby's best accomplishment to date is averaging 55.1 points per game as offensive coordinator at NAIA's Southeastern University in 2017 in his ONLY full fledged coordinating job.

When you throw Gabriel into the mix as quarterback, you have three ME FIRST guys who have ONLY proven they can be successful when they're holding someone else's hand.

It's a perfect marriage.

I'm glad he's gone. He's dead to me.

He was good for us. But against good defenses he didn’t do great. If that happens at Oklahoma he will get benched. They made a real good QB get benched and he left the program for not beating everyone on schedule. Oklahoma fans don’t put up with losses.

Dang, this is a fun thread.......I took a lot of heat early on being the first to associate him with socks, but it really is a way to encapsulate our experience with him.

Mr Socko will never die.....he will just keep revising the design to find more suckers

Really need to understand the difference between not caring and bitter. Right now he's the same as Jacob Sirmon. Seems you're so overboard with feel goodiness that you can't ascribe anything but 'cancer' to people who state the obvious. He could fall off a cliff, as well as John Appleknocker. My not noticing doesn't mean I actually wanted John Appleknocker to fall off a cliff. Try to hold back on your fanaticism enough to actually respond to the comment you're answering. I enjoyed the wins too, but after reading too much probably, have a bad suspicion that he actually didn't win a game we were even or not supposed to win. There is a difference between him and Milton. Pointing it out doesn't mean I want him to get cancer. One foot in reality is not that bad a thing. Try it. Again, to not care about him is not to hate him. It simply means he's equal with Jacob Sirmon, who I'm guess you have no idea who he is (no googling). By the way, there's no reason why you should know him, just like there's no reason why you should know Gabriel, and no I don't want Sirmon to get cancer, Why? Because I'm sane.

Hundreds of players entered the transfer portal this past season. All had their own (and family’s) best interests in mind, just like each of us has our own best interests in mind when we make employment decisions……He wasn’t hating on UCF or trying to hurt the program.

Gabriel transferred to a blue blood program, which is traditionally competing for national championships (almost zero chance at UCF), probably making out much better with the NIL, arguably has better talent surrounding him to put up big numbers..thus improving his draft stock and reunites with an offensive coordinator he loves and helped him put up video game like passing statistics….seems like a no brainer to me…. I wish him the best.
So you’re perfectly fine with UCF being a farm team for the real schools. Good to know.

Idk. You sure come off as the president of the Dillon Gabriel fan club.
