The Cabal stupidly bumped this thread that PROVED ME TRUE -- WAS: Totally don't expect anyone to acknowledge (much less apologize)

What's truly sad here is that with all his "prescience" on the subject matter, he's never taken that knowledge into a venture to lead the market, but has instead chosen to stay in the employment of others and sit back and complain that his genius isn't abided. I mean talk about wasted opportunity.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to be mean. He's spent his whole life in this field and knows everything about it yet he still brags about compliments from management.

I used to sit behind him in 229 and can fully attest to his annoyingness. GKS can verify as she was in front of him.
Awesome!

So ... would you guys prefer I not show up to games? I already stopped bringing my camera long ago. I loved it when some people complained about lack of pictures too.

What do you think GKS, since you've been called out?

Just so everyone knows, I'd still give to the program. I just would stop coming to Football games ... to keep from "annoying" you guys so much.

even at a typical 50% cut in battery life, if they need that Win32/x86 compatibility.

The one where their software and data aren't tied to specific versions and the software runs on multiple platforms, based on very strong open standards.
Old article but.... http://www.anandtech.com/show/6529/busting-the-x86-power-myth-indepth-clover-trail-power-analysis

Wait what? You mean a world where web apps only work in Chrome, where Amazon has their own app store, many Android apps won't even run on AOSP Android devices, and where Apple is completely proprietary off in their own little world? One where one of the most promising cross-platform development technologies is Xamarin which is based on the Mono project and .NET?

Oh, I have my complaints about Google too! Again, they are the "New Microsoft" (and I've said that since 1999). I regularly lambast them for the same lack of sustainment, even worse than Microsoft at times. I know others do. In fact, they've been raiding my past employer for new people to get that under control. There's a reason I turn them down every time they call.

Although you have to give Apple some credit. They have portability down pretty damn good, and are a technical model to follow. They truly limit things heavily with licensing, not technical oversights and lack of vision. Their entire switch to a completely new architecture is a highlight of how good they are at viision, as much as sustainment. They also excel at balancing user interfaces.

I mean, even Apple agrees user interface should change with the form-factor. That's something Microsoft doesn't seem to get. From switch from the sub-3mm high start bar on the phone to today's massive tiles on a workstation ... a single interface does not serve all. ;)

Key point: I just follow and explain things, while you guys seem to have your vendor-alignments, backtracking and excuses. This is how I keep a lot of clients out of trouble or, and this is always sad (because it means I didn't do my job well to convince them otherwise), have to refer back to my warnings before they went down a dead-end and have to "migrate" yet again. ;)

[roll], who did that?
The same people who actually talk to me and thank me in-person for various things I do. According to you guys, they don't exist, and that's fine.

Hint: They aren't going to say it on the board, for the same reason several of you treat me on the board. In fact, the "Oh, you're UCFBS" after about a hour of talking to me in-person always gets a look, especially at road games, especially when I've really helped them out.

Make fun of me all you want. There is a reason why people trust me, confide in me and otherwise seek me out for some things. I can be the "alleged asshat," the "punching bag" that so many of you here want, that can take it. I rarely dish it back out and only "in general" when I do (I'll cop to the "crass" thread, for my own reasons -- which was another "I told you so" post) and otherwise.

Still doesn't remove the realities that many of don't want to admit to, and I take the time to point out once or twice a year, like here.

As I said, if I'm really that annoying, and you would like me to leave the games like I heeded someone back at the 2009 Houston game, and stopped bringing my camera (to home games), just say so. I'll still support the program. I'll still be around. I just won't be that "annoyance" at the game you say I am anymore.

jesus dude, I want to like you but holy crap- this weird "I'm amazing and everyone should see that" attitude you're pushing on here is painting a huge target on your back and frankly it sucks seeing someone get teased for that but you're not helping matters. If you're a laid-back cool guy in real life with a normal sense of humility and security in yourself, why do you say things like "Still doesn't remove the realities that many of don't want to admit to, and I take the time to point out once or twice a year, like here", which only furthers people to make fun? No one is not admitting reality or whatever you're accusing people of, you just come off as condescending, having an overly inflated sense of self importance, and desperately looking for approval (why else would you have to point out your great qualities to a bunch of people on the internet every 6 months?).
Please just chill out with telling people how great you are and instead just stick to the discussions about UCF, jokes, interesting debates, etc. on the boards and through that people will see any great qualities.

I am not trying to attack you but I'm saying this because it's getting cringe-level uncomfortable since I don't know you but I find myself wanting to laugh at half the shit you're spewing on here.

Anyway, whatever- carry on with the software computer whatever argument.

Go look up Continuum in Windows 10, specifically where they show the feature off (which is basically experimental at this point) on phones. Then tell me again that Microsoft doesn't get that interfaces need to change to fit their device/form factor.

Get off your high horse. You've made overreaching statements which are factually incorrect. You were called out for it at the time and apparently you were so butthurt that you had to start a thread here months later saying "GOTCHA! I'M RIGHT!" even though you're still wrong. The Windows kernel is extremely portable and runs well on tiny ARM devices and expensive servers. Get over it.

I get it. You're a Linux and OSS fanboy. I have quite a bit of knowledge, experience, and insight into various platforms but yes, most of my knowledge is with the Microsoft stack. I also have very good knowledge of computer architecture. I don't understand why you are so insistent on coming here and proving you know more about Microsoft specific technologies when you clearly don't. You paint with broad strokes based on knowledge and experience from the 90s. It's just not applicable anymore.

Oh and my favorite thing said? UCFBS was calling Google the "New Microsoft" since 1999 even though Google was only founded in September of 1998. How can a billionaire like him not afford to own a fleet of Lambos to take to his HS reunion? I mean if he saw that Google would become the next Microsoft surely he invested in the company early, right?

Yes, I pegged it within their first year! It's a long-standing quote of mine that several people have re-used in the industry. E.g., "we are the standard" attitude when Google -- yes, within their first year -- was going way off published IETF RFCs and STDs for protocols.

I predicted, and then utterly slammed, them for all the issues GMail caused for not tracking Message-ID, and then again for only tracking the last Message-ID. It's totally screwed up Internet archives of NNTP/SMTP. Eventually there was enough of us that we finally got them to implement full Message-ID retention.

There are plenty of Google fanboys who downplayed the significance too. The same is happening yet again with Android. It's the main reason for their sustainability issues, and why my colleagues (as well as myself) get lots of calls from them too. ;)

How can a billionaire like him not afford to own a fleet of Lambos to take to his HS reunion? I mean if he saw that Google would become the next Microsoft surely he invested in the company early, right?
Actually, I did invest in Google early. ;)

That said ... if Microsoft actually does what it says it's going to do, and the industry actually shifts, I'll be the first one to congratulate them. But when you've been around their promises for years, and seen so many good -- really good -- architectures, designs, APIs, libraries, etc... from Microsoft get trashed out of the almighty, "this is going to hurt our lock-in" position, you tend to be a skeptic. Especially when their sales at the tradeshows start throwing off buzzwords ... like Docker, not realizing what it actually is. ;)

That's just like saying going XML in MS Office was going to solve everything with an "Internet Standard." Ha!

I think it's time to bow out ... because you guys are just digging the holes deeper. ;)

Again, what's the point of this thread?
For people to backtrack and rewrite history. They are going to argue I am backtracking and rewriting what I said, and will argue -- just like before -- I'm in the minority, and the majority must be right here too.

But I got a few concessions, both here and off-board. And that's enough for me, that a few others saw it. Just like other things, such as meeting me in-person and how I've helped them out (especially at away games). Very few are going to risk the wraith of those on the board, in defense of me.

So this is the thread equivalent of a "Fight Club Inception"?

Yeah, that's why Red Hat used to have to pull out my SoW every time I got pulled into Windows and .NET issues because people lacked the experience, especially the depth in the internals. ;)

Seriously ... don't confuse who I've worked for with how much current Windows and .NET experience I still have, and often use. If you look a little deeper at what I've worked on at Red Hat, and HP more recently, you'd understand some of the projects I've been involved with that Microsoft is only now starting to pay lip service to (largely marketing, no substance yet).

They are still just buzzwords to most of you. And now you know why I was complaining about the hours I was putting as a salaried employee in the last couple of years, first Red Hat, now HP. Heck, I almost ended up going to Microsoft when they offered one of my colleagues, myself and a few others something I cannot disclose per NDA. Back to hourly, much better for me when people have to pay the hours I work.

Trying to deal with all the new technologies that are quickly adopted, oversold -- especially when I'm post-sales, cleaning up the mess -- and commonly abandoned is why I've been seriously considering getting out of this space and taking a hourly, desktop support job. Seriously, not worth the pay for the hours I work being not just one of the few people on the leading edge, but writing most of the end-customer product documentation and related, partner and enablement training for other IT Professionals.

This guy is intolerable.
Hey man, they keep responding. But give me some credit, I only do this 1-2 times/year, and in a thread dedicated to it. I cannot help it if others want to drag it over to other threads too, although I avoid most of those.

Just like when I warned everyone to buy the tickets from the UCF AA so they'd have stubs to keep, especially if we won (among the other things, like how ticket sales would look good for the UCF AA) ... this is yet just one of those other things where those who wanted to believe the Surface 3 would be ARM, and RT would be rid of all its problems (among the countless other things related to this), just fell flat on their face.

But you call me intolerable. I'll still say "hi" to you in the stands, because you've always been a good guy. I've always just been that guy very few understand, but do come to ask of and rely on, without ever admitting they do (and I don't blame them for not waiting to associate with me on this board).

If that's being narcissist, then I'd say it's become necessity when so many people want to say there's something wrong with you on this board, or in technical groups, etc... yet will tell you "don't change" in person, to your face, when no one else is around.

Nope. You've always been a good guy. You've given me advice at times when I needed it, or at least needed to see another viewpoint. I've long realized I've been looked at certain ways by many people.

That is a total fabrication. You come in and post on a sh*toad of threads back to back when you come to the cooler or Dungeon. You might get into it more on just one thread but you are all over the board all at once and usually late at night.

I said I only do these "I told you so" threads 1-2 times/year. That's when I make long, and repeat, posts, responding to many of you after you post.

And yes, sometimes I decide to respond to 10-20 threads in an evening. But most of them are 3-5 statements, with only a handful being longer responses, but usually only 2-3 max in the end. I cannot help it if people quote and increase the scrollbar, just to respond to me, and end up having 10-20x as many posts about me than I even posted.

The latter is completely different than the former. I know some of you have don't read my posts, but if you're going to differ with me, at least differ with what I actually said.

I fully admit I encourage a long, protracted thread in these 1-2 cases/year. But in the case of those other threads, I cannot help it if people want to respond to anything I say. Heck, in some cases, I don't even have to be part of thread before you guys start talking about me, even when I don't end up responding.

So ... just WTF is your point considering those realities? To blame me for other people wanting to make every one of those other threads about me? Or Ole? Or someone else who is the "target"?

So let's just say you're right... do you not see the problem with this mentality? The need for you to come here and say "I told you so" is about as narcissistic and smug as anything I've ever seen.\

It's even worse being that the reality is that you're still saying things that are untrue today and making up things that people never said in the past. Congrats, buddy.

So sorry, I didn't get involved in this thread earlier when it opened. Here is what I have taken from this.

UCFBS would rather be right than rich. Got it. Because to be perfectly honest, there are a ton of rich bastards out there who couldn't tell you where their servers even are let alone what kind they are and their code is shit and their hardware is spotty and it is all held together with duct tape and whisps of hope. But it worked long enough for them to cash out and hire idiots like you to come in and be right while they are off banging pop singers on the beaches of Tahiti. You may know more than me about how a mother board works but I know how to take what it does and make 5-10x what you make in a year. So I hereby announce that you are right about......well....something and a rousing Huzzah for you.

UCFBS is a complete narcissist without basis. He is like the fat girl with the mole on her forehead that looks like a unicorn horn who thinks she is too hot to date any of the guys in the club. Actually, I have to completely agree with you. And it very much sounds like sales these days, which is why I went back to being self employed, no longer salaried like I have the past 8 years. It's only getting worse.

E.g., in my last few years, some of the people that sell some of this crap who make a crapload of commission, especially if it was my trust with the customer that led them to buy more, claim there isn't enough for travel for me to implement it, and I'll have to eat that expense.

I was trying to ignore cnsaguy because I wanted to stay out if it, but since you called me out:
I don't give a damn whether or not you go to games. You complained the whole game when you sat near me and cnsaguy. But you sit somewhere else, so I don't care anymore. You seem to enjoy wherever you sit. That's great.

As far as this board:
Limit your posts to 3 sentences. No one wants to read manifestos. Heck, I'm good friends with some of the posters here, but I'd put them on Ignore if they posted long, rambling shit all the time.

Honestly, I don't know if you troll out of boredom, or are a Kardashian-level attention whore.
If you're a troll, try to be like SAD (yeah, I said that). He posted stupid trolly shit all the time, but at least his posts are short. Or be like Chez (yeah, I said that) and ask questions that should be common knowledge and then argue the answer...but like Chez, make your posts short.
And either way, stop poking the bear, then whining because the bear chased you. It's played out. Stop whining about being the victim. If you're really wanting people's approval, try being a better poster. Some of the more respected posters on here know how to keep it brief, and to the point.

And I hate that I had to write so many words on a message board. It's a message board. Lighten up, Francis.

He called you out. I merely seconded, since he went there. But apparently that's still my fault.

I'm honestly tired of several of you singling me out, when several if you go there ... first. So finish it. The insinuations tend to validate anything about me. So ... why not just get it all out? Let's actually talk about what I do, which I always and completely own up to, and not the BS that is continually thrown aroundcon this board.

And complained about what for example? I complain about attendence and other things. I've been known to get on the refs in the past too, but not too much the last few years. Same as on this board, no difference in person - sans the myth and insinuations.

I alao fully admit I started this thread, just like I did the "crass" thread last year. But the thing is ... what I said isn't untrue. But you guys would rather talk about other things ... than address what was actually said. Other people see it too.

So ... out with it. Let's get specific. I'll own up to anything I actually do. I always do. I'm an honest, transparent fool that many if you love to make fun of. But the rewriting and embellishing stories has gotta end.

I say this because several people have attributed things to me that others said around me, that wasn't me. But that's also happened in this board too. I mean, why thing anyone else said it, if I'm in the same vacinity, just like a thread.

Let's get it all out, and separate the reality from myth. Or we can continue the BS and people can call me out, post 5-10x over any time I post at all (in threads quite different than thia), and 5-10x more people can agree, and derail any time I post.

Which is what I hear people bitch about off-board.

Yeah, after that horribly egotistical, narcissistic, and attention-whore post in response to GKS it's time to do something I haven't done to anyone on all of the UCF boards regardless of how bad of a poster they are: I am putting you on ignore. Your level of annoyance, your failure to keep it brief, and your continual LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME selfish attitude truly has warranted it. It's no wonder that you're now self-employed: I imagine the people you worked next to every day absolutely couldn't stand you. It's time for you to take a long look in the mirror and realize you have a lot of problems that need to be worked out. But after this post, I'm glad I won't know whether or not you exist.

You really need to work on being a better human being. I know, I know--you tell us how much you help people out at tailgates and away games--but I don't believe it. I don't believe that you have one altruistic bone in your body. Your persona on these boards simply doesn't dictate it. It's clear you need a LOT of couch time with a psychologist or psychiatrist, preferably the latter since you probably are in need of some sort of medication.

I say this to you as my Christian brother: get some help and don't be such a horrible human being because you are on a very clear path of eternal comeuppance if you don't start working on these things now. I've said my peace, now adieu.
