UCF 9th (out of 12) in AAC Hoops Conf Game Attendance (Jan 17, 2019)

there has been much better student attendance in the past with teams that were more of a tourney long shot than this year

8 years ago or so:

Students showed up for majority of the games...filled their lower level sections to capacity and eve spilled over to the corner 2nd level sections.

Then t-shirt giveaways started for select games...students would show up for those games...but not really for others.

Then they started to have t-shirt giveaways for many/most home games (like this last game)...and student attendance started to dwindle.

Even though UCF has one of their best ever seasons...there is no "juice" amongst the students nor a will to show up to games in large numbers...as they are extremely important in regards to "game atmosphere" as they bring the energy, season tix holders follow their lead...and a home crowd can help UCF win more than a few games throughout the season.

Here's a quick glance at regular season conf game single game prices for AAC Teams:

Memphis: $7
cow u: $7
SMU: $7
Houston: $10 (in newly renovated smaller 7,000 seat arena as old arena sat 8,000)
ECU: $10 Youth (Adult $20)
UCONN: $10 in Hartford, $33 at Gampel Pavillion on campus
Temple: $13.50
Tulane: $15
Tulsa: $15
Cincinnati: $20 (new arena close to sold out most conf games)
UCF: $20
Wichita State: $40 (most of the arena is sold out season tix)

8-0, ranked 18th, 29k fans against UConn last year. The basketball team is not going to have consistent high attendance numbers unless the team is playing at a high level with exposure for a lengthy period of time.

It took a top 10 ranking, #1 scoring offense, Heisman candidate QB to start guaranteeing 40K+ at football games.

Plus another $10 to park. That kinda turned me off.

There is just too much stuff to do in Orlando.

compared to places like greenville, north carolina, but not other big urban areas. orlando's amenities are mainly for tourists. the things available for residents are no different than those available to people in wichita, kansas.

He didn’t play defense much. Good scorer.
True - I remember him scoring a ton when he played. I feel like he’s the only guy I can think of that had decent playing time in the NBA from the 2004-18 time period though.

Note: not a huge b-ball fan so it’s very possible I’m just ignorant here.

Come on!

Yeah. I thought it would be a fun thing to do after work, kinda like for the Magic games but cheaper. UCF game, beer and nachos.

$10 park. No beer in my section. Not fun.
Magic games are a competitor for students too even though they suck most of the time. 21 and up can buy 300 level seats and go hang out by the Bud Bar before going out Downtown

If you buy better seats you get free parking, free food and the ability to drink.

UCF fans are sabotaging their own athletic program by not showing up to watch a pretty good basketball team.
I’ve been a basketball season ticket holder for 17 seasons. How many others on this board can say the same?

For me personally it’s that I have children, family and business obligations that take up a lot of my time. Even though I can’t get to many games I’ve never let that deter me from supporting the basketball program.

My biggest beef isn’t all the fans who aren’t going to games it’s all our FB season ticket holders who aren’t buying basketball season tickets. If we did that and money was flowing in it would be less of a worry for me. The reason i say this is God willing when my kids finish high school I’ll then be able to go to tons of games just like I did before my kids were born.

We have a young fan base but the time is coming when many of us will have more time on our hands to support not only Football but many other sports at UCF. We need to start practicing good habits now by at least buying one season ticket. If you don’t want to go to games then donate the ticket back to athletics.

It’s embarrassing that attendance isn’t higher but I can’t fault our young fan base for not being able to go to games during the week. But let’s help DW out here by least selling out the arena with season tickets. If we did that leadership could then say the support is there and it’s just a matter of time before they start coming to see games live.

Go Knights!!!

yeah that's why people aren't going to basketball games at 7pm. the beaches that are 45mins away are a better option.
well the last game was at Noon and the weather was perfect all Saturday. Going out to the coast or hitting golfballs is an option that I'm guessing Wichita, Kansas did not have during the same time frame.

The majority of basketball games are in the evening so if we only had the odd low attended games when people would prefer to be at the beach or the golf course then I would buy that.

I'm of the opinion that people just aren't that interested and they're at home, not on the town doing all these exciting things. It was the same for football until recently.

There is just not much interest. Look no further than the message board. The same people that fly to road football games rarely attend a basketball game. So the most diehard UCF fans are not interested, is it surprising that casual fans has little interest.

Honestly. Please don’t compare Wichita to Orlando. That’s ridiculous. We have NGEbraska trolls for that. Lol.

Generally there is more to do in Orlando on a really nice Saturday afternoon than watch basketball at UCF. Just saying

And......, 45,000+ people rather be at a UCF football game more than all those things.

I do agree Football is not immune to it. 2017 season had a couple games with a lot of empty seats.

I do wish we had a few current undergrad student posters to give their take. It seems like interest and loyalty to sports in general has declined at UCF. I also think that despite diehards spinning for the AAC, a lot of our fans do not like the conference we play in

you mean the best conference we've ever played in? i laugh at USF fans when they try that and they actually know of a time in a better conference.

the UCF fanbase has been teased for years by Football Coaches, Athletic Directors, and media that a BCS or Power 5 invite was coming & the waiting continues. I think that it hurts in Football more than basketball and will show if the Program reverts back any 8-4 type seasons or worse.
