UCF to get tourism $$$$$?

As the previous poster asked. Why?

That money can only be legally allocated to tourism generating purposes (paraphrasing). It cannot be used for infrastructure, schools, homeless, feeding the poor, etc.

Until that law gets changed to say otherwise, those that have real tourism related reasons for asking for funds, should receive them. The convention center has and always will get a massive amount of that money. Why not allow other venues that also serve tourism, benefit from the money that is available?

UCF is bringing POWER 5 football to Central Florida. POWER 5 football has real tourism implications, especially if we perform at a high level.

Why? Bc Tax dollars can be spent better that benefit the Orlando community
I agree with you. Fortunately, the voters in Orange county can change that law. Until then, the money goes where the law says it can go,

I also agree with you that the money can and should go elsewhere. Unfortunately right now, it can't. even if they wanted it to.

The counter argument is that the tax is paid for by tourists and the money should keep going to tourist related expenses to keep the "machine going". I wish we could spend that on better roads and services to feed that machine... But that's also not allowed...

When listing to the pitch that the school made, they said a college in Jacksonville got many millions of tourist tax $$ to renovate their track facility. That facility now host tournaments that bring folks to from all over the country to Jacksonville, so I guess there is a precedent.

Orlando needs a strong UCF. It was really disappointing how little political support UCF received in the struggle to get into a power conference over the years, so it would be awesome to see some reasonable amount of community buy-in to acknowledge the economic impact that is possible with worldclass facilities in a power conference profile. If you help build the brand, more tourists will come.

The fans coming to sporting events stay in hotels, eat at restaurants, spend money at attractions and other businesses which employ and pay the salaries of those living in our community. They generate tax dollars which support state expenditures so we don't have a state income tax. They also generate county tax dollars supporting Orange county's community services and schools.

Not entirely accurate but whatever

just about everyone that doesn’t have black and gold glasses on and with your same political leanings also think it is a ridiculous request

I have similar discussions with the community service group I'm a member of... Half want to continue the old model of 'asking' for donations to sustain operations while I've presented a number of self-sustaining revenue generation initiatives that require initial investment... Once the machine is built, exponential return on that investment is provided. Some minds are just too simple to understand, and hold back progress.

I’am on the fence(literally). I live near UCF and I’am not gonna lie. It would feel good to monetize a home I own nearby. These events bring a variety of tourists, friends, and parents. I have plenty of space to host these guests. 🏦 🏦 🏦
