OT: Pro League to eliminate the draft and require player approval for all trades

The NWSL (Women's Pro Soccer League in the USA) is trying to attract more of the best players from around the world and thru collective bargaining, is set to eliminate their draft, plus require player approval for any trade.

Wonder if this trend would ever trickle down to other sports leagues?

WOT: Memphis crime hits Penny

Police are looking for a porch pirate who took boxes of exclusive shoes from the home of Memphis men's basketball coach Penny Hardaway earlier this month.

According to a Memphis police report obtained by ESPN, a male suspect was captured on camera taking the merchandise and pushing a shopping cart with the stolen packages near Hardaway's home. Police have released photos of the suspect online.

"Officers were advised that camera footage had captured the male pushing a shopping cart and stealing multiple packages," the police report said, adding that the man was last seen pushing the shopping cart down Goodwyn Street and Central.

Memphis TV station WREG, which first reported the news, noted the boxes contained exclusive Foamposite shoes that can't be found in stores. Nike's Foamposite line, made popular by Hardaway when he starred for the Orlando Magic in the 1990s, are still popular today.

Hardaway told the station that 26 pairs of "one-of-a-kind" Foamposite shoes had been taken.

Memphis police spokesman Officer Joseph Hibler told ESPN he had no additional information to share, saying only that it is an ongoing investigation.

2024 Season—Have a Take

I’m sure there will be BOOMs this summer and exciting news but in an era where players change teams at a rate seemingly higher than the NFL (and teams and conferences shift by the offseason), I’m at a point right now where I want to talk actual ball with folks. 2024 season fast approaching. Have a take? Put it out there.

Mine: the UCF defense is going to surprise people. The linebacker transfers we added plus the development of HS talent like Andrew Harris are going to make a big difference. We will not suffer through so many games where Kansas, K State, and West Virginia just ground and pound us to death (or where the bottom falls out like against Baylor). I think it would be a stretch to say this will be an elite defense but I am thinking top 40. Bad as it was last year, when it worked well, we gave headaches to DG and Oklahoma, shut down Ollie Gordon, and pinned Houston to the mat. Demari Henderson was a ball hawk, closest thing to it since Richie Grant; no, I don’t think he is better than Richie but that INT against GA Tech in an otherwise forgettable bowl game was pretty insane. John Walker is one year old, stronger, and experienced. Ricky Barber’s last chance to impress NFL scouts. Lee Hunter improved last year; why not more this year? Less hyped but still impressive Matthew Alexander is back. We have a new DC who despite the leaky roof jokes is more experienced and is bringing a more aggressive scheme which I think favors a team built on speed.

Thoughts? What’s your take, good, bad, or vague?

OT- Specific Tesla Question

I know there have been threads on EV and Tesla but I have a specific question for those that may have insight.

I ordered two 2024 Model 3’s - extended long range RWD - one black and one blue - last week and expected delivery is between August and September… is there anyway to know how accurate that is? Anyone with a similar experience or in the know? Like are they actually having to produce the cars that I just ordered?

Hype and Pageantry

Outside of the obvious of winning, these are the additional things I wonder about over the long summer days leading up to the season:

What would UCF's record have to be to get ranked?
Early season, I lean towards 4-0 after beating TCU and Colorado; I think it is no-brainer if we are 5-0 coming off a win in the Swamp. To end the season ranked, I'm thinking a minimum of 9-4, maybe even 10-3.

College GameDay? Big NOON Kickoff?
This is as contingent on our opponent's success as it is our own. I lean towards "no" but this thread is about dreams as much as anything. If it happens, I think Colorado is the most likely for a home game while Florida or West Virginia would be most likely for a road game.

Biggest Home Game Crowd?
Colorado seems likely for this one. If we have a great season, maybe Arizona and Utah games surprise. Homecoming always brings a good draw, so BYU is a Wild Card here.

Unexpected Storyline?
The defense being great gets my vote.

Noon kickoff games?
Cincinnati and BYU get my vote here.

UCF fans in Gainesville O/U?
I think I will see 15,000 of you at the Swamp.

Next Best Traveled to Road Game?
I think a lot of you are going to travel down country roads to go to Morgantown.

Let me know your thoughts and hot takes or other superlative topics I missed. My first notable ommission here is Frankie Valli.
