WOT courage and cowardice

What I am about to write are two true events that have happened in the last 96 hours.
A friend of mine was in Subway in Mount Dora. There were 2 or 3 Subway girls , my friend and a black lady ahead of my friend in line. The black lady orders some sandwich requiring heating. The Subway lady took her order and put her sandwich in the oven . She then takes my friends order. My friend orders a turkey sub and didn't want it posted. So the Subway girl asks my friend what veggies she wants . Upon hearing the question , the black lady turns to my friend and starts berating her for her white privilege because the Subway girl was making her sandwich first and she was ahead of the line. Yet her sandwich was being toasted.

What happens next is my friend initially ignores this until the black lady goes after the white girls working at Subway. She starts to berate them and calls them racist. At this point my friend steps up and tells the black lady to leave those young people alone. They didnt do anything wrong and she tells the Subway kids she notices they have security cameras and gave them their phone number if the manager wants to know the truth. My friend had courage to defend the innocent against an irrational person berating them.

Last night I went to a local place here in Sylva ,NC called Creekside . They serve ok seafood. I was in my Tundra and had my disabled son Kyke with me. I parked in the left side handicap spot so my son's door would open onto the ramp zone space and I coukd bring his wheel chair along side my truck. I go in to eat. I meet my business partner after work . My wife is in PCB for spring break.

We have a decent meal with blackened Mahi and I come out to load my boy and what do I find before me? A complete ass hole , his girlfriend and their Harley parked in the handicap loading zone between my truck and the white Hyundai SUV in the adjacent handicap spot! He is on his bike and his girlfriend still has her helmet on and taps the guy on his shoulder . He looks over at me and Kyle in his wheel chair and asks, do you want me to move ? I was like yah, if I can't my truck door open to load my son.

I was full on enraged inside. My door does fully open and comes within 2 or 3 inches of his precious Harley. I load my son in the truck and load his wheel chair in the bed . His girlfriend still hasn't removed her helmet and she watches this thing go down and the guy hasn't dismounted from his bike either . I get in my truck and leave.

I was kicking myself all the way home and this morning. I should have told the guy what a selfish jack ass he was and he was breaking the law. I should have had the courage to say it , to defend my son and every other handicap person thus guy has done this too. I didn't. I left there burning mad and that guy and his girl went in and enjoyed their meal.

My friend had courage to step up and do the right thing at that Subway when they stepped in to defend the employees against the uncalled for rage of the customer ahead of them. I stayed silent when the idiot squeezed his Harley in between two cars parked in handicapped spaces . I should have spoken up. My only hope is the guy's girlfriend who watched me load a 140 pound disabled young man into my truck let's her man know he was a jerk.

I need to be more like my friend and do the right thing when the time comes . Doing the right thing is often one of the most difficult things to do especially when it comes to strangers and their bad behaviors towards others. I share these events to encourage you guys to have courage especially to defend the innocent. I need to have that courage myself a bit more.

James Gordon Meek- Missing ABC reporter

Today I heard a disturbing story about an ABC news reporter who went missing in April .Nobody knows where he is and what is apparently known back in April the FBI was seen on his block on the day of his last tweet. Not even ABC news knows or they won't comment. He was a journalist investigating government corruption.

Now my friends on the left probably won't listen to the story because it comes from a guy on the right. I don't care who you vote for ,if you're an American left ,right ,center ,we should agree on the Bill of Rights ,on civil liberties and the freedom to think and speak your conscience and for a truly free press. I heard this today and I encourage you to seriously give this a listen. Put your partisan hat down and put your American hat on. The guy was doing a story on some government corruption and just vanished. IF my government has something to do with it, well it's wrong , it's very wrong. We don't silence the press or make reporters just go away.

I am not wanting to debate this , I am putting this information out there for you to decide on your own and for you to do your own. Homework. If you are somewhat intellectually honest and curious you will want to hear this. As for me it's troubling.

MCO has 41 million people pass through its gates

Read in Lakeland Ledger this morning that 41 million people traveled through MCO this past years up 10 percent from the year before. MCO originally built to withstand only 24 million annually. This is only more justification for its current spat of expansion there.

I bring it up because it was a talking point in the Big 12 discussions only proving that Orlando area is growing insanely fast and that our expanding market should only make us more attractive.

Just thought I would share.

OT: New car question

Apologies, long winded. But the idea: Get a new car or not.

Title says it all. Don't worry about what kind of car (then again, all ears for a solid 3rd row SUV for $35k or so)

Married, two kids (5 and 2.5). Live in DC so we get all four seasons, snow, ice, rain, sun, you know the drill.

We have two cars.
  • My car: 2009 Honda Accord. Paid off. 120k miles. I drive about 50 miles a week on this. Pretty much strictly to work and back. Rarely for anything on weekends.
  • Wife car: 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. $5,500 left on loan (18 months). 50 miles a week as well but also used for road trips all around town and Pitt, FL, etc with the kids.
    • Current loan is 3.89%
    • Loans for used cars today seem to be 6-7%. Not ideal.
Kids are getting older, larger, and will need more stuff. Also when family comes to visit with car seats and junk, we have to take two cars. Or I take an Uber and meet them where we go, regardless, not ideal but not anything causing major strife.

Trade in for my Honda is anywhere from $4-5k right now. Probably $4k.
Trade in for the Santa Fe is about $15k or so.

That means we have $5k more baked into the Santa Fe (as of today) if we wanted a new car compared to my paid off Honda and use the Santa Fe as the trade in.

The Santa Fe is a much nicer car than my Honda. My Honda will eventually break. But who knows when? 10 years? 20? It has 120k miles. Santa Fe has 50k miles. We use this for the road trips.

Really- main reason for this: we want the third row.

I can trade in the Santa Fe today and get a 2021/2022 Palisade or something similar (don't worry about what we get) for about the same monthly payment (maybe $50 more a month).

OR

We trade in the Honda. Keep the Santa Fe (becomes my car) and get the Palisade (or something similar).

Now we have two newer cars.. but two payments (albeit, only one within 18 months or so).

What would Dungeonites do here?

The idea to have two “newer” cars, and both being an SUV is appealing. But I really like my paid off Honda.
