UCF concluded their inaugural home schedule in the Big 12 by hosting the No. 1 ranked Houston Cougars. The Knights led at halftime but UH rallied in the second half to win, 67-59. Five UCF seniors (Shemarri Allen, Antwann Jones, Ibrahima Diallo, Omar Payne and CJ Walker) were honored prior to tip-off. Former NFL star Antonio Brown returned for his second UCF game in two weeks and was a big hit at halftime posing for selfies with the student section. Here's what it was like inside Addition Financial Arena, packed with a near-capacity crowd of 9,390.

Remember when Boston.Knight said the Tampa Bay Rays' catcher died from a vaccine?

More died suddenly. I mean it's freaking everywhere now. All dying in their sleep. Sagat. In sleep. Included article on the Ray's bullpen catcher.

Yeah, it was suicide. But lemme guess: the coroner is in on it as well.

RECAP WITH SOUND: UCF Knights Men's Basketball has problems with Houston, loses 67-59

The UCF Men's basketball team hosted top ranked Houston in Orlando in a Big XII conference matchup. The Knights had the early lead after an efficient start, but Houston's defense and rebounding proved to be too much for UCF. Coach Johnny Dawkins knows his team has to take better care of the ball in the upcoming Big XII Tournament.

Business owners in the Dungeon

I wanted to start a thread for Dungeon members that own businesses.

My husbands company is a sponsor at Festivals of Speed at the Ritz-Carlton on November 6th. We were thinking of buying some gift cards and such as give aways. Naturally we wanted to first give the business to patrons of his car company and my real estate business. But then we thought there should be a master list of Dungeon members who have businesses, local and national.

We always try to support businesses owners of our clients and it a cool idea to add owners of UCF.

So I'll start.

Tie Breaker Scenarios for Big 12 Tournament

Found this really awesome tiebreaker engine: http://bball.notnothing.net/big12.php?sport=mbb

Running all the possibilities, it is basically that if we win our next two games we are essentially guaranteed a seed 10 or higher which gives us the bye. Actually, in that case it’s actually guaranteed we get the 8 or 9 seed.

If we lose one of our next 2, we are essentially guaranteed the 11 or 12 seed.

The reason for this is that in the scenario where we win our next two, the relevant tie breaker is with Oklahoma, Texas, and TCU. We win tiebreakers between all three including in three way ties due to round robin tie breaking format.

On the other hand, losing 1 of next 2 makes our tie breaker most likely between us, K State, and Cinci and we lose all tie breakers between those 3.

Naturally, it would be very UCF to beat Houston then lose to TCU.

UCF Women’s Softball BEAT Stetson 4-2 tonight at 6:00 pm on ESPN+

Per UCF Athletic.com

ORLANDO – With the commencement of the UCF softball team’s inaugural Big 12 slate on the horizon, the squad is set for one final tune-up before it meets its new conference-mates for the first time, welcoming the Stetson Hatters to Orlando for a Wednesday evening home matchup.

UCF (11-7) enters its midweek tilt against Stetson (7-13) fresh off a 3-1 showing in the squad’s Knights Classic Tournament hosted at the UCF Softball Complex March 1-3, topping Kennesaw State, 4-1, and Princeton in a pair of run-rule decisions while also dropping a slim 4-2 contest to the then-No. 22 South Carolina Gamecocks.

Right-hander Kaitlyn Felton starred in the circle throughout the weekend’s action for the Black and Gold, tossing four innings of three-hit ball in UCF’s 10-2 five-inning win over Princeton March 1 before throwing her third career seven-inning complete game against Kennesaw State March 3.

In stifling the Owls, Felton recorded her second career start with at least seven innings and two or fewer hits allowed, and the junior compiled a 1.91 ERA and a .193 batting average-against in 11 innings of work throughout the weekend, all three marks representing staff-bests in the tournament.

WSJ: Restaurants Don’t Want Your Party of Six

I had no idea this was a trend.

Restaurateurs say the decision to offer smaller tables goes far beyond profits. Many are more conscious of the needs of their labor force since the pandemic. Seating too many large parties can put stress on the kitchen and waitstaff.

“It really throws a wrench in the gears of service,” says Josh Tilden, a partner at Maxwells Trading, a new Chicago restaurant.

The restaurant, which is busy every night, limits seating parties larger than four for most of the evening. It tries to seat tables for five or six at either 5 p.m. or 8 p.m. The sole large table for 10 requires a deposit that becomes nonrefundable within a week of the reservation to protect against last-minute cancellations.

In Charleston, S.C., FIG rarely accommodates tables of more than six, chef and partner Mike Lata says. Continued demand from diners allows the 20-year-old restaurant to be more selective. Larger parties also tend to arrive at different times, slowing service.

“Eight people trying to get an order together could take 45 minutes,” he says.

Twins left their Spring Training home in Orlando in 1990. Going to games there in March were a blast. (Shot Doctor got his start there as a ball boy). 2 photos below from 1990.

Here is a UCF link with lots of photos to what it looked like back in 2003:

What is your favorite Spring Training or other memory of Tinker Field?

DYK: UCF Baseball was suppose to play there just for 1 season while JBF was built but since the contractor screwed up and concrete base had to be dismantled and poured again, UCF spent 2 years at Tinker Field (believe 2001 and 2002).
