Big 12 Pro Day in Frisco (March 18-21)

Press release:

FRISCO, Texas – Big 12 Pro Day will return to The Star in Frisco on March 18-21 as the Conference will partner with the NFL for the second annual event. The NFL Network will provide coverage of Pro Day from the Dallas Cowboys’ global headquarters as Big 12 football athletes begin the next chapters of their careers in front of NFL franchises inside Ford Center at The Star.

Big 12 athletes scheduled to attend this year’s Pro Day include Colorado’s Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Arizona tandem of Tetairoa McMillan and Jonah Savaiinaea as well as star wideouts including Jimmy Horn Jr. from Colorado and Jack Bech and Savion Williams from TCU among others.

The running back class will be represented by names such as Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo, UCF’s RJ Harvey, Cincinnati’s Corey Kiner, KU’s Devin Neal, DJ Giddens from Kansas State, Ollie Gordon II from Oklahoma State and Tahj Brooks from Texas Tech.

Also scheduled to attend are defensive lineman Tyler Batty from BYU, Keith Cooper Jr. from Houston and J.R. Singleton from Iowa State alongside Baylor linebacker Matt Jones, Utah tight end Brant Kuithe and offensive lineman Wyatt Milum from West Virginia. A complete list of the 200+ participants and final workout schedules will be announced at a later date.

“The Big 12 and NFL are providing a world-class experience for football student athletes to receive a respectful, dignified, and comprehensive talent evaluation,” said Troy Vincent, Sr., NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations. “In addition to on-field assessments, the prospects receive mentorship, professional development resources, and tremendous media exposure as they prepare for their future.”

Last year was the first-ever Big 12 Pro Day, which saw over 130 Big 12 student-athletes participate in front of NFL scouts and executives. Among those participants was former West Virginia and current Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Zach Frazier.

“The Big 12 NFL Pro Day was an awesome experience being held in an NFL facility,” Frazier said. “It gave the players a great opportunity to showcase our skills and prove we are ready for the next level. I was able to talk to NFL scouts and coaches and it helped me build confidence and gave me exposure heading into the draft.”

NFL Network will bring its talent and production teams to Frisco for live broadcasts with expert commentary and analysis of the event from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. CT on March 19 and 20. The Big 12 Pro Day coverage will also be featured within additional NFL Network programming and promoted across NFL+ and NFL digital and social channels.

Food For Thought, College Tournament

First, we don't need play-in games because we should go back to 64 Teams. The only reason they added four teams was to give the Big Conferences more $$. Small schools and HBCU schools usually get but ONE team and they have to play a one or two seed. They get picked for an inordinate number of
"Play-In" games where they get little national exposure and even less money (sound familiar).

Furthermore, the matchups are unfair. Seed the top 16 teams only! After that's done, draw from the other 48 teams to fill out the matchups. If a No.1 gets the 17th best team in the country (and it's subjective at that point), too bad. They might also get a 32d second seed in the next round. Again, it's all about money. If teams 33-64 get to play teams seeded higher than 16 that's a good thing. it improves their chances of getting additional games and more money for conferences who really need it.

OT: Rice forces out Wayne Graham as baseball coach

Wayne Graham leaving Rice after the 2018 season

Rice baseball coach Wayne Graham told FOX 26 Sports his career with the Owls will end at the conclusion of this season.

“The athletic director (Joe Karlgaard) has informed me that my contract will not be extended at the end of the 2018 season,” Graham said. “I am totally committed to this year’s team and will give everything I have to place this team in the postseason. I love teaching and coaching and have no plans to retire.

Graham, who has been the Owls baseball coach since 1991, is in the final year of his contract at Rice.

“Multiple sources have informed me that a former player has been campaigning for my job, and has solicited the aid of other former players,” Graham said. “This has been extremely hurtful to my wife and I since we have loved and supported all these players.

Graham did not identify who that former player is. He did say that situation has been going on for more than a year.

“Perhaps it is time to exit Rice,” Graham said. “My wife and I love Rice and what it has stood for. So we leave reluctantly. I’m making this public statement to Rice Nation so that the people we have served all these years know exactly how I feel.”

UCF Baseball beats BYU, the elements

Knights cap off perfect week, including win over Miami

A month of the college baseball season has gone by, and the Knights have finally gone out of Florida for some games. One might be hard-pressed to find a more drastic difference in environment and the weather than UCF had to handle for this conference-opening series.
