Go Ponies!

Never was really a SMU fan but am pulling for them to upset everyone and win the NC. Odds are against them but HELLALUAH BAMA DID NOT GET IN.

Also, pulling for conference mate Arizona State. Picked last in conference in preseason media poll.

Being a long time UCF fan I've always loved a great underdog story. A-State and SMU are it for this year.

Scott Frost "only 1 winning season"

I've noticed all over twitter and the forum that Frost "only has 1 winning season"...

While factually true, let's look at this in a more realistic way:
If Frost stays at UCF, he has winning seasons for at least 4 years. He's not doing worse than Hype if he stays during that time.

I'm not focused on the "1 winning" season scenario.
I'm focused on how he comes in and rebuilds this program.

I'm optimistic that:
  • Recruiting improves. His ability to recruit was phenomenal. Some of the best talent was acquired while he was here.
  • Offensive production improves.
  • Fan support improves significantly.
  • Frost is extremely motivated and will work extremely hard to get us back to winning UCFast.
I'm a bit pessimistic about:
  • Our current roster and what he has to work with.
  • If Frost isn't motivated; then this can blow up quickly.
  • The coordinators he brings in. Hopefully this quickly gets moved into the optimistic list.

SZD Take on UCF Coaching Search

Part of their "eyes list", very respected reporting across the industry for those of you who may not be familiar. This dropped Sunday morning, I just got around to checking it out and haven't seen this posted, figured I'd share the real quick segment on UCF:

Stephen Godfrey: "...I feel like I could say this about every open job except maybe UCF where they tend to actually spend the money and do the thing."

Richard Johnson: "Dude what?"

Stephen Godfrey: "Look I know you had this friend in college because everyone has this friend in college where you get drunk and you're like, Oh my God, you hooked up again. You're like it's been two years, why are you doing this? The pool that UCF had in front of them to go back to Scott Frost is, it's brutally uninspired. I'm not trying to say you won't be successful, but Richard, do we need to the thing again where we tell you that the head coach that you used to have when you were in a different league is not going to guarantee you the success of back then in the newer hard league, because we've done this at Rutgers, we've done this at Louisville, we've told you this story before guys.

Richard Johnson: He's going to come in and say I learned a lot at Nebraska and the things that I messed up at Nebraska and it aint gonna go that way"

Stephen Godfrey: Because most of that shit was off the field and he's acting like it never happened and it was him I'm talking about.

Richard Johnson: Also, by the way, shout to Kalani Satake for getting an extension out of this

Stephen Godfrey: Hey, get that money! It was like a mini Florida State has.

Richard Johnson: ...has Jamie Chadwell gotten his extension of this yet? I guess he probably doesn't need one.

Stephen Godfrey: Jamie Chadwell might be an interesting conversation where Jamie Chadwell and Liberty are going live with each other longer than they might realize..."

--------

My interpretation reading between the lines of these guys: As if we didn't already know this, but Scott Frost was not target a top target and UCF fell back to him (Shoutout DFaulk) and I don't remember if I saw it on here but SZD is confident enough to report that Kalani Satake was one of the sitting Big XII coaches UCF was going after. Also, just another source confirming UCF was close to Jamie Chadwell.

NCAA proposing college athletics subdivision rooted in direct athlete compensation

Ross Dellenger:

Of the many recent changes in college athletics, the most transformative — and revolutionary — may be on the way.

NCAA president Charlie Baker is planning to introduce this week a proposal to create a new subdivision within Division I that grants certain schools more autonomy around policy-making and permits them to compensate athletes in a new and profound way.

In a letter sent to Division I members, and obtained by Yahoo Sports, Baker outlines a groundbreaking and radical change to the NCAA Division I athletics model, describing it as a “new forward-looking framework.”

According to Baker’s proposal, schools that choose to be part of the new subdivision — they can opt in or out — are required to meet a strict minimum standard rooted in athlete investment.

Members of the new subdivision will be permitted to strike name, image and likeness (NIL) deals with their own athletes — a significant move away from the current NIL structure.

OT: Top 2026 NBA Prospect Picks BYU

Looks like Kevin Young built out great staff at BYU and they got the #1 player in the c/o 2026 to commit. I forgot he took that job. He was a top NBA assistant for the Phoenix Suns prior.

It’s time to discuss Chins:

Please don’t look at his time at Boise and think to yourself “he’s who we need.” Mr. Betrayal was a major reason why the ship sunk at Nebraska.
It’s one thing Scott left for his Alma mater and to be w his dad. It’s quite another to ditch your defense and quit tweeting when you knew you were leaving this place for Nebraska. Some of you have short memories…….
