***RB Jordan McDonald commits to UCF***

Gus Malzahn has landed his top running back target.

Jordan McDonald, a bruising back from Milton High School in Alpharetta, Ga., announced his commitment to UCF on Saturday afternoon. He is the first high school running back to commit to UCF under Malzahn.

His other finalist was South Carolina and he officially visited Tennessee during the summer. He also had offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest, Washington State and Wisconsin, among many others.

McDonald visited UCF twice during the summer and returned recently to attend the ECU home game.

"They told me I'd be able to fit in their system being a hard, smash mouth runner," McDonald said in an earlier interview. "They have some deadly receivers at UCF that can really kill anyone on the edge. They said once they get their receivers rolling and the defense has to spread the box to cover the passing game, a running back like me can come in and destroy the inside, destroy those weak boxes when they're spread out and the inside linebacker is covering an extra slot receiver. Those little inside zones that I love to run through so much, I can come in and smash through different holes and bring an explosiveness to the offense. Like a 1-2 punch combo. You can't stop the running game and you can't stop the receiving game either. That's how he said I'd fit into their plan."

McDonald also said he was excited about the upcoming Big 12 move.

"I think it's a good move for UCF," McDonald said. "I think it will be very competitive in the Big 12. Definitely will put us in position for the playoffs each year."

McDonald scored four touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) on Friday in Milton's 44-34 win against Roswell. His final rushing tally was 129 yards on 11 carries.

UCF now has 13 total commitments in the Class of 2022, eight of whom are on offense. The Knights' current Rivals.com team recruiting class ranking is No. 44 nationally.

Look at Big 12 Bowl Games this season and future UCF Bowl options

UCF will probably play in a few of these in the coming years:

Tuesday, December 28
AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Memphis, Tenn.
Texas Tech (only 3-6 in conf play, 6-6)) vs. Mississippi State (ESPN), 5:45 p.m
Note: Not a great date. Still post Christmas Bowl Game so many people would be off work that week. I liked it when Liberty Bowl was on NYE.

Tuesday, December 28
Guaranteed Rate Bowl, Phoenix, Ariz.
West Virginia (4-5, 6-6) vs. Minnesota (ESPN), 9:15 p.m.
Note: Played in the Baseball Stadium/Dome in PHX. Not good for football

Wednesday, December 29
Cheez-It Bowl, Orlando, Fla.
Iowa State (5-4, 7-5) vs. Clemson (ESPN), 4:45 p.m
Note: Some might complain about late afternoon weekday kickoff

Wednesday, December 29
Valero Alamo Bowl, San Antonio, Texas
No. 16 Oklahoma (7-2, 10-2) vs. No. 14 Oregon (ESPN), 8:15 p.m.
Note: Maybe best "destination" of all Big 12 Bows. Would be awesome to see 10,000 plus Knight Fans takeover the Riverwalk. Game played inside the Alamo Bowl guarantees perfect weather for game.

Saturday, January 1
PlayStation Fiesta Bowl
No. 9 Oklahoma St (8-1, 11-2) vs. No. 5 Notre Dame (ESPN), Noon
Note: With UCF already playing in that NYD6/BCS Bowl game twice, not sure how many would make a trip for a 3rd match-up in a non-CFP game.

Saturday, January 1
Allstate Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, Louisiana
No. 7 Baylor (7-2, 11-2, Conf Champ) vs. No. 8 Ole Miss (ESPN), 7:45 p.m
Note: Outside of the Orange Bowl, if this is a non-CFP Bowl Game, I still think Knight Nation would show up in huge numbers to party in New Orleans for this game.

Tuesday, January 4
TaxAct Texas Bowl, Houston, Texas
K-State (4-5, 7-4) vs. LSU (ESPN), 8 p.m
Note: Maybe worst date for a bowl game as most people are back at work and not sure how many would travel for a lower level bowl game in Houston. Game is inside the Texans Stadium so weather wouldn't be a problem buy small crowds may not be much of a fun atmosphere.

3 of the 7 bowling teams had losing conf records but recovered to be eligible with mostly easy non-conf schedules.

With expanding the conf from 10 teams to 12 teams, wonder if the bowl looks to add new potential bowls to their lineup (even though ESPN is opening up more bowl options to various conferences to provide more variety).

Only Big 12 teams not going bowling this year:
Texas (3-6, 5-7)
TCU (3-6, 5-7)
Kansas (1-8, 2-10)

NCAA Rewriting Constitution - 3 Divisions make rules for themselves

"The NCAA is setting the stage for a dramatic restructuring of college sports that will give each of its three divisions the power to govern itself."

Is this the beginning of the super conference. Seems like this will give the "Old" P5 blue bloods, the ability to separate themselves from everyone else and create their own conference. Will we be on the outside looking in again?

***UCF vs. SEC battle for DB transfer target?***

Just got word about a weekend visitor... Auburn DB Ladarius Tennison, who is originally from Rockledge, departs tomorrow for a Wednesday-Friday official visit to Ole Miss and then this weekend he will visit UCF.

He was originally slated to be a safety before Auburn moved him to CB. He started in three games this season with the most action in games vs. Texas A&M (8 tackles, 1 TFL) and Mississippi State (9 tackles, 2.5 TFL).

UCF is targeting him as a safety. He would have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Obviously there is the prior connection with Gus and T-Will.

***Four-star OL T.J. Shanahan visits: 'UCF felt like home'***

On June 1, the floodgates opened to allow in-person recruiting for the first time in 15 months. UCF's first visitor was Orlando (Fla.) Timber Creek offensive tackle T.J. Shanahan, rated by Rivals.com as the No. 50 overall prospect in the 2023 class.

The day obviously included a facility tour and learning more about the program, but the best part for Shanahan was building on his relationship with Herb Hand, UCF's offensive line coach.

"It was a great visit," Shanahan said. "Coach (Herb) Hand and I talked a lot. He's a great guy. The visit was awesome. I met a lot of new faces. But one thing I can say is it was great to finally meet Coach Hand and shake his hand. I've been talking to him on the phone a lot, so it was good to see him in person."

Shanahan learned what it would be like to play on Hand's offensive line.

"Coach Hand had a little slideshow that showed everything about his life and how he coaches, all the accomplishments that he's had. He's coached a lot of great players at Auburn, Texas, Tulsa, a bunch of schools."

Another highlight was getting to put on the uniform.

"Walking out into UCF's stadium with the gear on was awesome," Shanahan said. "Just being there with Coach Hand and the UCF crew was awesome."

Shanahan wasn't able to connect with Gus Malzahn in person on this visit, but did catch up with via FaceTime.

"I've had a lot of conversations with Coach Malzahn," Shanahan said. "I can tell he's a great guy. And based on watching him coach, I know he's going to get the UCF program rolling."

Being local, Shanahan knows he didn't need to fit everything into this one day. He'll be back for other visits and possibly for some games this fall.

"I really appreciated how everyone at UCF treated me," Shanahan said. "It felt like home. It's right down the street. It was my first ever visit and they made it real special. I'll be there again soon."

Shanahan visited Florida on Wednesday and later this week he'll be flying across the country to embark on a multi-state tour with visits planned to Oregon, Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Texas, Texas A&M and TCU. He's hoping to find time to squeeze in a visit to Ohio State and North Carolina as well.

As a 2023 prospect, Shanahan knows he has plenty of time to make a decision.

"I don't think I'm going to be making a commitment any time soon," he said. "I'll probably do it before my early signing day or right before my senior year. I want to take the most time that I can to make the best decision for myself to succeed at the next level."

OT: Allegiant adding non-stop service from TPA to Clarksburg, WV

Another potential flight option for those road matchups against WVU. Allegiant is adding non-stop service from TPA to Clarksburg, WV (CKB) beginning this upcoming March. Clarksburg is about 45 minutes southwest of Morgantown. It looks like the route will run on Fridays and Mondays, so it could be convenient for weekend football matchups.

The primary airport destination for trips to Morgantown is Pittsburgh International (PIT) which is about 1.25-1.5 hours north of Morgantown. Obviously PIT will provide the greatest flexibility, but it's good to know there's another option that happens to be a little closer.

For anyone concerned because it's Allegiant (I was a long-time skeptic): Allegiant has been modernizing its fleet over the past few years and was recently awarded a top safety rating of 7⭐ by AirlineRatings.com.
