My wife found an Orlando based, UCF alum-owned biz that makes awesome women’s/ kids / baby UCF gear

Small independent shop. Don’t dime her out to Jimmy or the other UCF brand cops

She’s local in Orlando, a UCF grad and doing yeomans work getting us nice embroidered apparel similar to what big boy SEC fanbases can find.

My wife got some stuff for her and a bunch of gear for the baby - was proud to support someone doing this stuff by hand.

My understanding is lead time is shorter than shown online as the owner is expecting a baby soon but maybe order sooner rather than later so you can get good use out of football season.

Wanted to share in case anyone else was looking for gifts or just something nice for themselves. I can post photos whenever it shows up if anyone’s interested but honestly if you’re local you can probably visit to see the products. Really cute designs for kids

UCF's 2024 offensive line

LT
Amari Kight, 10 starts, 35 game appearances
Keyon Cox, 1 game appearance (developmental prospect)

LG
Adrian Medley, 7 starts, 14 game appearances
Keegan Smith, 15 starts, 23 game appearances

C
Caden Kitler, 2 starts, 6 game appearances
Jabari Brooks, 31 starts, 37 game appearances
Waitclaire Flynn, No. 2 center, ESPN/Rivals

RG
Marcellus Marshall, 23 starts, 30 game appearances
Cameron Kinnie, 7 game appearances

RT
Paul Rupelt, 40 game appearances
Wes Dorsey, 17 starts, 42 game appearances

Polls?

I never can figure out the polls and why they can't include UCF. Preseason UCF got 4 'receiving votes' in the Coach poll. Now they have ZERO receiving votes in both AP and Coach.

Who does? usf. usf getting 5 'receiving votes in the Coaches poll.

UCF shellacked an fcs team. usf beat Bethune Cookman. Similar scores. 57-3, 48-3.

Why did duh*bulls jump UCF?

UCF is ranked #20 in ESPN power poll. usf #81

I know if we keep winning we will move up, but I don't get why duh*bulls did and UCF didn't.

Big 12 Week 2 Games

Big weekend for the Big 12…

Sam Houston St @ UCF
Baylor @ #11 Utah
Iowa St @ #21 Iowa
Arkansas @ #16 Oklahoma St
BYU @ SMU (Friday)
Pitt @ Cincy
#17 Kansas St @ Tulane
#19 Kansas @ Illinois
Colorado @ Nebraska
Houston @ #15 Oklahoma
Texas Tech @ Wazzu
Mississippi St @ Arizona St
UAlbany @ West Virginia
Long Island @ TCU
N Arizona @ #20 Arizona

Things I notice: lots of P4 matchups. Lots of road games. Two notable rivalry games. Important for UCF to win number one but having the conference perform well would be nice.

Xavier Townsend: UCF's return game spark 🏈

Xavier Townsend was a big-time factor in the return game during UCF's 57-3 season-opening win against New Hampshire.

Between six punt returns and three kick returns, Townsend compiled 170 yards to give the offense great field position for scoring drives. On a couple occasions, he appeared close to taking one all the way to the house.

"I feel comfortable back there," Townsend said during Monday's press conference. "With experience comes comfortability. I trust the guys holding up on kick return and punt return. It's pretty much a trust factor knowing that they're blocking their guys, so I got to try to do my job."

Where does Gus Malzhan rank among UCF head coaches.

UCF has had 8 head coaches coach more than one full season in program history.
Gene McDowell 13 seasons 86-61
George O'Leary 11+ seasons 81-68
Mike Kruczek 5+ seasons 36-30
Josh Heupel 3 seasons 28-8
Gus Malzhan 3+ seasons 25-16
Scott Frost 2 seasons 19-7
Don Jonas 3 seasons 14-12-1
Lou Saban 1+ seasons 6-12

Barring disaster CGM should pass Heupel in wins this season and Kruz sometime next season it would seem. I am sure this will be a polarizing question but where do you rank Gus among the UCF head coaches all time? What can Gus do to move up your list? What would make him #1 on your list. Here is my opinion.
1. O'Leary
2. McDowell
--------Longevity and Program building success
3. Frost
--------Greatest Run in program history
4. Heupel
--------Great season but with Frost's roster
5. Malzhan
--------The program is on the rise but not because of his on field success
6. Kruczek
--------Better as a OC than head man and the ending hurts
7. Jonas
8. Saban
--------Much love to the past but a little light on signature accomplishments
To me Gus can pass Heup by winning consistently but it will take a Big 12 title before I consider his accomplishments on par with Frost. Gus would have to win multiple conference titles and probably a few playoff games to get into the territory of the other two. Winning a CFP National Championship would do it but is not necessary. I just think it is now going to be so hard to win in the 12 team format.

OT: Rice forces out Wayne Graham as baseball coach

Houston Fox 26:

Wayne Graham leaving Rice after the 2018 season

Rice baseball coach Wayne Graham told FOX 26 Sports his career with the Owls will end at the conclusion of this season.

“The athletic director (Joe Karlgaard) has informed me that my contract will not be extended at the end of the 2018 season,” Graham said. “I am totally committed to this year’s team and will give everything I have to place this team in the postseason. I love teaching and coaching and have no plans to retire.

Graham, who has been the Owls baseball coach since 1991, is in the final year of his contract at Rice.

“Multiple sources have informed me that a former player has been campaigning for my job, and has solicited the aid of other former players,” Graham said. “This has been extremely hurtful to my wife and I since we have loved and supported all these players.

Graham did not identify who that former player is. He did say that situation has been going on for more than a year.

“Perhaps it is time to exit Rice,” Graham said. “My wife and I love Rice and what it has stood for. So we leave reluctantly. I’m making this public statement to Rice Nation so that the people we have served all these years know exactly how I feel.”

Education time: What’s a Sam Houston State Bearkat?

IMG-6055.jpg
Binturongs, also known as bearcats, are found in South and Southeast Asia. They have shaggy, dark brown coats, sharp teeth and claws. They spend most of their time climbing and perching in trees, if you will. They are neither cats or bears. They smell like buttered popcorn and feast mostly on fruits and berries. They are nocturnal. Thank you, that is all.*

OT: USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year transfers to Texas Tech & signs $1,050,024 NIL Deal

This was announced a month ago but was brought up again on The Bridge Today as a Texas Tech Booster gave $11 Million to their Collective and they used $1 Million of that to grab the #1 returning player who's ERA in her first 2 years at Stanford was 0.57 and 0.65 that includes 336 KOs in 230 innings last year.

PS. I like why the deal ended up being $50,024 over $1 Million. Article notes why.

Recent on The Beat of Sports (96.9 The Game)

For those that regularly listen to live or more specifically that catch The Beat of Sports with Marc Daniels on demand, anyone notice that content has been inconsistently posted in the last couple weeks?

I know Scott Harris who was producing the show left to focus on other opportunities just before or around the start of July, so maybe there is some gap in turnover of regular posts. Wanted to catch Day 2 of the Big 12 football media days content on the program and there is nothing posted for 13 July. Also, and maybe not totally related, but Marc’s regular blogs have ended about the same time Scott left.

Again for the folks that regularly listen or catch content post live broadcasts if you all have any information on it.

THE LOWDOWN WITH DALI: A New Football Season is Upon Us

Time to Reacquaint With Our Old Autumn Pastime
When that first cool hits your face, it’s a refreshing jolt to the senses that gives you a rush of energy and lets you know you’re still alive. No, I’m not talking about the crisp fall air you feel once the leaves start changing and the faint sound of pads crashing is dwindled by a coach’s whistle. Not in Florida at least, especially in late August. I’m talking about the chill of a convenience store walk-in cooler off University Ave. on gameday as you peruse the vault of vices, deciding which beer will be your inaugural sip of a new college football season. You stand there in tandem with another fellow, deciding his afternoon much like you are for those awkward 15 seconds as you stare at a new seltzer in your hand, while ultimately deciding on a tried and tested Michelob Ultra twelve pack, water, and a solo tall boy of a pint you’ve been meaning to try out.

Getting the 💰 & complacency/ NIL

As some have said, KJ didn’t look fired up; seemed to go through the motions. If true, and he just cashed in…then more tweaks to NIL deals need to be implemented.

It would be interesting if there were separate NIL funds that were performance based. I have never contributed to NIL funding and the KJ performance solidified it for me. I simply hate the idea of throwing unearned money at 18 year old kids that haven’t done anything to deserve it.

However, performance based contributions would be interesting.
