What is fair and foul following the 57-3 win over New Hampshire

Let’s start by establishing the obvious point: Twitter is not real life and probably shouldn’t be relied on as such. However, it can provide some directional perspective on the pulse of an audience following a situation or event. As it turns out, the reaction of Knight Nation before, during, and after a football game proves to be a perfect example of the directional theory. After the dust settled on UCF’s 57-3 victory over New Hampshire, I posted a tweet the next day asking fans for their feelings on what they witnessed.

Rivals has continued its partnership with Pro Football Focus (PFF) which grants me access to their comprehensive analytics and statistical tools.

After each game, two separate analysts grade every player on each play of the game and the two totals are averaged out. Obviously no subjective ranking system is perfect, but I am finding that my real world impressions of a player in a certain game usually reflects the PFF grade.

PFF Grading Scale

90 and above - Elite
80 to 89 - Great
70 to 79 - Good
60 to 69 - Average to Above Average
50 - 59 - Below Average
49 and below - Poor

Season Defensive Grades (by game)

New Hampshire - 90.4

The defense scored a team grade of 90+. This is the highest grade since the 2016 season opener against South Carolina State (38-0 shutout) which was a 93.0 grade. That was the debut game for Scott Frost.

Fresh off of a season opening win against New Hampshire, the UCF Knights football team has begun preparations for their week 2 opponent, Sam Houston. Coach Gus Malzahn knows that there are many things to clean up on both sides of the ball, and he is eager to have his team get back out on the field.

Seriously, They looked great today. Their QB Cam Ward is probably the best in the state.

Watching the two ACC heavyweights, it convinces me our conference is far superior. #10 FSU and #14 Clemson are almost middle of the pack BigXII.

We have a group of 5 traveling to TCU. Hesitant to pay how much the Alumni tailgate is now. Anyone setting up a separate tailgate that would be open to us joining? Happy to bring some beer and tequila to meet with some other fans!

Do parents/coaches/players look at that reaction and get behind the emotion or does it turn people off?

Don’t think I’ve seen a coach hit the table that hard in awhile.

Same high school as Duckworth and Chapman

UCF is going to mash some folks in the Big 12 this year. The Knights set the school record for rushing yards in a game in the season-opener.

UCF leads the nation in rushing yards with over 75 rushing yards more than No. 2 Army and on 2 fewer attempts than the Black Knights.

For perspective, UCF ran 54 times for 251 yards and four rushing touchdowns against Villanova in 2023. The Knights ran for 203 yards more (454 yards) on the same number of carriers with four different running backs scoring touchdowns against New Hampshire on Saturday.

I found this really cool two part documentary on Youtube. There was some really cool stuff on the pre-Culpepper era of UCF football, which is something I as a recent grad have really barely heard of.

If you can stomach a few small facts being wrong here and there, and a bit of blowback about the natty claim (he is a Gator fan, but I swear it’s mostly an unbiased piece), then this is a pretty good watch.

Leading 25-10, 25-21. First 3 weekends we are on the road. 🏐
