COLUMN: It's not time to panic ... yet?

Happy Labor Day weekend, Knight Nation, and welcome back to college football!

A few weeks ago, I penned a column advising Knight Nation to temper its expectations for the 2024 football season. After another stellar recruiting season led by Gus Malzahn and his crew, many fans were ready to crown the Knights as the 2024 Big XII Champions and book their hotels in Arlington, before the season even started. Fast forward to Thursday evening, after UCF’s first game of the season against FCS opponent New Hampshire, and many of those same fans were frantically reconsidering making those hotel reservations.

2024-25 CFB Playoff thread

So we may not have loved how our first game went in its entirety, but apparently the metrics like us now..ESPN fpi has updated and we moved up 20ish spots, now have the 21st highest fpi and are now favored (with KSU) for the conference championship game. We are also showing a ~20% chance of making the playoff now, only behind KSU.

It seems the metrics are liking the big 12 a lot after week one, with all teams moving up. (ASU and UCF the big movers) while acc and sec dropped a little.

SP+ hasn’t updated yet from what I can tell.

Figured, at least for a while, this would be an interesting thing to track. Hopefully we stay in the game until the end.

***UN-Official 2024 XII Out of Conference Thread***

WVU got blasted at home vs Penn State
Colorado wins a close one against 1-AA school
UCF blows out 1-AA school.
TCU wins a close one at Stanford
Kansas blows out 1-AA school.
Ok State wins against 1-AA school.
Utah blows out 1-AA school.
Cincy Beats 1-AA school.

The XII is 1-1 in FBS games so far. Much better start than last year.

Houston currently losing to the UNLV rebels.
