Now a redshirt senior shortstop at UCF, Williams committed to the University of Oregon on a softball scholarship when she was just 14 years old. During her freshman season, she was named first team All-Pac-12, starting 23 games. As a sophomore she played in all of the Ducks’ 24 games.

After taking her junior year off from competition to give birth to her son, Zee, in 2020, Williams returned to the field for her senior year before transferring to UCF for the ’23 season. Last summer, the California native graduated with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, and this spring, she earned her degree in sociology.

“When this opportunity came about, I could not jump faster,” Williams says of posing for the 2024 SI Swimsuit Issue. “I was like, I want to do this so bad.”

In sharing her story, she wishes to empower other mothers and athletes in particular to reach for the stars.

“Showing women that you can do whatever you set your mind to and [that] there are still opportunities for you [is my goal],” Williams says. “Just because you have a kid now, you get to do everything with your kid by your side, which is so fun because you get to create the experience with them, as well. My son is here [on set], so he gets to be a part of everything that mommy does, and he’s having the time of his life. I’m having the time of my life … I could not be more grateful that I was chosen to do this and I’m loving every second of it.”

OT: Mavs win Cooper Flagg Lottery with only a 1.8% chance for #1 pick

As the saying goes, you have to be in it (lottery), to win it.

Dallas, with only a 1.8% chance for #1 pick did just that.

Article me tinned how excited Mark Cuban was when they were guaranteed to get a Top 4 pick.. and then it got better.

Magic have #16 and #25 (from Denver) in the Frist Round and then #46 and #57 (from Boston) in the Second Round.

OT: Explain Boat Towing

I posted a couple years ago that we were looking for a boat but since we had a Wrangler with a 3.5k tow capacity, our options were limited until we were ready to get rid of the jeep.
We're looking at F150s & Silverados (feel free to opine on the RAM) but not sure how much tow capacity I should have to SAFELY tow.

Looking at some Regals, Sea Rays (feel free to dissuade me), and open to other "beginner" boats that weight around 4k dry. Realistically how much should a truck be able to tow?

Should I be looking into specific packages? Certain engines? Engines to avoid? How much is it to realistically add on weight wise when it comes to trailer, gas, etc.

Any other beginner boats on the lighter side? We're open to pontoons as well but it feels a bit redneckish (even though I know they're not).

OT: NFL 18 game schedule- with a twist

The Athletic has article on using an 18/16 format for the NFL. It lets the league expand to 18 games- but players can only play a max of 16. Makes an interesting strategy play.

This stood out: Last season, the injury-ravaged San Francisco 49ers had just six players who started all 17 games. And that was on the high end for the league. The Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams had just one player in that category. The Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots had two. Sixteen teams had five or fewer start the full season.

***Q&A with Rich Wallace as UCF enters final weekend of Big 12 action ⚾

After enduring a long 11-day road trip that included back-to-back Big 12 series at Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, along with a midweek stop at Missouri State, UCF Baseball returned home this week with a little momentum on their side.

While their Stillwater leg of the trip didn't go as planned with a sweep by the Cowboys, the Knights bounced back with an 13-2 win at MSU and then won two of three games in Lubbock, clinching the series Sunday with a 15-6 rout that saw Andrew Williamson hit for the cycle and Antonio Jimenez go 5-for-5 with five RBIs.

UCF has now won four of their last five games following Tuesday's 22-5 throttling of Presbyterian.

Their attention now turns to a pivotal home series against Baylor beginning Thursday, the final Big 12 series of the regular season and one that carries major implications for postseason positioning as the Knights are angling to surpass BYU and Utah for the final spot in the conference tournament.

After Tuesday's win vs. Blue Hose, we caught up with head coach Rich Wallace to talk about the recent road trip, the offensive explosion of late, and what's at stake this weekend.

Coach, you're coming off an 11-day road trip. You got a huge series this weekend. Did you accomplish what you wanted to in a game like this tonight?

"Yeah, we're trying to limit who we use in the bullpen, trying to keep the guys on what we were kind of doing offensively this weekend. It looked like that is what happened. Grant Siegel was outstanding, getting Wiley Hartley in a clean inning and then getting Spencer Bauer out there for the first time in a long time. I think that worked out perfectly."

Your offense has now been on fire the last couple of games after losing 3-2 in that Saturday game against Texas Tech. What kind of shift have you seen in the offense?

"Well, it looks like the pitch selection for the most part was better. The plans look a little better when you start seeing the extra base hit show up. Obviously, that helps a lot.

"There was a lot of stuff in that game and a lot of stuff in the Texas Tech game on Sunday where we executed the short game a little bit, we drove the baseball, two-out hitting and then some of the base stealing part of it showed up as well and that showed up again the day early."

Was this top-tier UCF baseball for you?

"Well, I think there are some parts in there defensively. I thought Grant Siegel should have shut them out if we make the defensive plays that we're capable of. There were a couple mental mistakes out there and there were two mental mistakes out there in the night.

"So, offensively, yes, I thought the pitchers were outstanding including Grant, I mean all three of them, but we probably should have shut them out if we play the defense we need to play."

Reflect on how you guys were able to bounce back in Lubbock this past weekend. I know the long road trip didn't get off to the start you wanted, but you needed to get a series at Texas Tech and you did that. Andrew Williamson obviously was among many players who had really big performances.

"Yeah, and I think you roll into Oklahoma State and you get your tail beat the first night and then you're in a really tight one on Saturday and you battle back on Sunday and get nothing for it.

You know, you got to get on the bus and drive to Springfield and in that game (at Missouri State) in the seventh inning I think it's a 3-2 ballgame. So, to that point, to see them kind of push through and finish that game and go on at that place on a Friday night that had all kinds of weather issues.

"We show up at 3 but don't play at 8:30 and they battle through that, then lose a gut punch on Saturday and the performance on Sunday followed by this one, you hope that that's something we can build on."

Williamson ended up becoming the first UCF hitter to hit for the cycle since 2015. What was it like to witness that?

"I mean, it was in a hurry too. It was like the natural cycle, doing it all in the first four at-bats. I didn't really process it until he got the single and I saw the dugout go nuts for it. I was like, oh, that must have been the cycle.

"But he's been on it, he's been carrying us for a while. It's nice to see him get rewarded. He's one of our hardest workers and he takes this very seriously and it means a lot to him and he's getting rewarded for it."

It's an obvious tight race to qualify for this Big 12 tournament. Do you think that this game is going to give you guys confidence heading into the weekend?

"I think when we're playing that way for the last 7-8 days, hopefully that does more than just a one-night performance here on a Tuesday, but we're just gonna find a way to play this thing one game at a time."

Lex Boedicker tweaked something at Oklahoma State and has been out ever since. I know he's a senior and games are kind of running out for him. What's his status?

"Yeah, we're hoping he can play Thursday. So, he's trending towards that. That would be the goal. It would make me very happy for him to be able to get out there in this last week at home."

Mateo Gray has been filling in for Boedicker at first base. He hit the homer in that Sunday game at Texas Tech and got a couple more RBIs tonight. What was it like to see him get some action?

"Yeah, he had the three-run homer on Sunday and then he had a sack fly earlier in the game with the bases loaded. That was a good swing.

"He's progressing. Like, this is a tough situation. We try to run him out there and get comfortable and it's hard to get comfortable at Oklahoma State and on the road and doing all that stuff. He looks like he's getting more comfortable. He's a guy who's got a big future here."

What's the upside of a guy like Mateo? Obviously, a true freshman. It wasn't gonna come right away for him. There's veterans in front of him, but what do you see from him, not just now, but looking at it for the next year?

"Yeah, and that's a guy that when he got here didn't play much first base. So, he's trying to learn the position. Got over there, saw a quicker way on the field at first base and he's improved over there and he's helped us on the mound. Like, he would be pitching more at the end of the year right now if we didn't have to use him at first base. He's giving us two options to play."

So, he would continue to be a potential two-way player playing both the field and as a pitcher?

"Yeah, 100 percent. Especially with the way these rosters are going. I think the two-way guy is really important to building the roster."

Antonio Jimenez went 5-for-5 on Sunday at Texas Tech.

"I think he was struggling a little bit and it was it was a tough sled for him at Oklahoma State and that happens that to every hitter, but he did some things on Tuesday at Missouri State and then on Friday night he had the big two-out double, which was huge in that game and then to roll that into Sunday and that performance Sunday was special.

"It's hard to have a guy hit for the cycle and think that somebody else had a probably a little better offensive day than the guy that hit for the cycle."

You invited Chet Lemon to the Florida game. That was a special moment that he had on this field with you. Obviously, we got the news he passed a few days ago.

"
Yeah, that's really sad. Just feel for him and his family, and really the whole Central Florida baseball community. The way this thing is now and all the great things (in local youth baseball), he started it all. There were a lot of guys in my era that would never even got a chance to play in half those games if he wouldn't have set this thing up and he did it all for the right reasons. There's not a person that played for him, coached with him, against him, that doesn't have the utmost respect for him and the way he did it. He'll be solely missed."

You're fighting for that last spot in the Big 12 tournament with BYU and Utah right there with you. You have a tiebreaker over BYU. What's your message to the team as you prepare to fight for that last spot?

"You play Thursday as hard as you can. You go out here Thursday, you play the best game you possibly can, play as hard as you can and then we'll figure out the next day after that. You got to play this thing one game at a time and we've been doing that for a while.

"It's no different than we've been playing the last three weeks."

Any adjustments to the starting rotation?

"Not right now, no."
