UCF Fast & Slow – Houston, YOU have a Problem - Bowl Bound Edition

Bowl Bound Baby!!!! Super sketchy after the first drive where Houston went down on us easy and scored. I would have been beside myself if that played out all day but to the defense’s credit they shut it all down after that. The goal line stand in the 2nd half was incredible. The offense and the defense played solid complementary ball. Balanced play calling, running and passing was on point, defense defended the pass and the run equally well. Really solid way to end the regular season and get us in a bowl.

UCF Fast:
  • JRP: Throwing darts all day. Took some questionable sacks BUT he didn’t fumble or even come close to throwing a pick so I will personally take the sacks over trying to force a bad throw. 85% completion % and he had a few others that should have been caught, still amazing Kobe has one of those sideline catches every week. JRP ran really well today, picked his spots. Had one of the long down conversions that he did all himself. Really solid game.

  • Kobe & Baker: Kobe had the bigger stat line but Baker had some big time blocks. Both played great. Hope at least one stays for next year. Personally, I think Javon is gone, he is really good and no doubt he can play at the next level. I would think he would at least play the bowl game but wouldn’t be surprised if he sits.

  • Harvey: Another monster game, he has become a beast. We will be spoiled if he stays. I can see him going though with how the running backs go. I hope if he does leave he at least plays in the bowl game which I think he would but who knows.
  • Alec Holler: Had a decent day catching the ball but I thought his biggest play was recovering MARs fumble. That was almost disastrous. He was Johnny on the spot on that one.

  • X: Really one big play, solid catch, incredible run for the TD. He broke several tackles, made guys look stupid. Excited to see how he grows for future years.

  • Jason Johnson: Really great solid guy. Never here much BS from him. Never missed a play, never gets hurt. Has had to do a lot again this year. Under appreciated. Had some solid tackles today and two huge sacks.

  • Malachi Lawrence: We desperately need his speed off the edge. We lack that so much outside of Drop and Drop isnt consistent with it. Lawrence is a stud, Bright future on that one.
UCF Slow:
  • Boomer: Dang, last week my title “the day the boomer died” was just a tongue and cheek play on the Buddy Holly Lubbock connection B talked about but now I feel shitty that it carried over to today. He left 7 pts on the field in the first half. Two missed field goals and a missed extra point. I thought last week his kick trajectory was really low for some reason and this week one of the missed fgs he literally kicked it into the back of one of our line men, that wasn’t blocked. Absolutely has the yips. I am no professional golfer but I got the yips once on the course and I couldn’t hit the ball straight no matter what I did the entire day. Just seemed like he needs to shake all this crap. The good thing with him is that when he has confidence he is unstoppable. I still believe he will be fine, great kicker, glad it didn’t come down to kicks though.

  • Official Reviews: This game it felt like so many unnecessary reviews. The review of the John Walker one was especially egregious. I know they didn’t review the Hunter roughing but that was bullshit as well. I hate when we try to turn football into some powder puff unrecognizable bullshit.
Before the season my prediction was 7 to 8 wins, I did asterisk that it assumed JRP was healthy. I think that hit pretty solid because had JRP not gone out and been hobbled I am very confident we get 1 to 3 more wins. Today’s game was the definition of a MUST WIN and the team answered the bell and got it done to get us bowl eligible. I also said being bowl eligible 500 record was our basement. If we could do that the year was going to be a success and anything else was gravy. I didn’t think this is how we would end up getting there but I think we proved to everyone we can play with any team in the Big 12 and have set ourselves up well for next season. We got some young guys that need to step up next year so the extra practice always helps and we keep that bowl streak alive. Go Knights!!!!

DROP tells it like it is.....

Going to the B12...."There are strong and better players and probably better coaches". He's not afraid to speak up and tell it like it is....

Nightmare scenario for the CFP

Next weekend could present some interesting scenarios. Here is the one I think causes the most headaches:

FSU vs Loserville (fsu wins close, Rodemaker looks bad)
Oregon vs Washington (Oregon wins)
Michigan vs Iowa (Michigan wins)
Bama vs UGA (Bama wins close)
Texas vs OK St (Texas wins)

Who is in and who isn’t? Cases can be made for a lot of teams. For a visual here are records plus H2H:

UGA: 12-1 (loss to Bama)
Bama: 12–1 ( Loss to Texas)
Michigan: 13-0
Texas: 12-1 ( Loss to OU)
FSU: 13-0 (Starting QB out)
Oregon: 12-1 (Loss to Wash)
Washington (Loss to Oregon)

Me personally: Michigan, Bama, Oregon, Texas. FSU doesn’t have a great win, UGA past seasons shouldn’t count for anything. Texas is helped by the massive TV number they will bring.

Curious to y’all’s thoughts.
