No. 14 Softball Readying for Matchup with No. 23 Missouri

per UCFKnights.com:

ORLANDO – Fresh off its 3-1 showing during its season-opening Black & Gold Classic last weekend, the UCF softball squad, ranked as high as No. 14 in the national poll release Tuesday, is set to host No. 23 Missouri Wednesday night in the Knights' final game before the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational this weekend.

UCF rode strong pitching performances, standout defensive plays and timely offense to wins in three of its first four games. Following a narrow 4-2 defeat to then-No. 15 Georgia that saw the Knights yield just four hits to the Bulldogs, right-hander Kaitlyn Felton turned in a career outing in her second appearance and first start of the season.

The sophomore tossed her first career seven-inning complete game and struck out a career-high 13 hitters against the UMass Minutewomen Friday evening, marking the most strikeouts in a single game by a UCF pitcher since Gianna Mancha's 13 punchouts in her April 23, 2021, no-hitter at Memphis. In her dominant performance, Felton allowed just one run on one hit and one walk while throwing 118 pitches.

OT: Self Driving Cars

After seeing that anti-Tesla ad during the super bowl I have been discussing this with family and friends. I do not own a Tesla but I can see that the driving assistant, when properly monitored, would be much more effective in reducing accidents. I might actually go as far as to say that even by itself it would be more effective. People are highly unreliable and many suck at diving or are already distracted. Thoughts?

Sons of UCF Podcast - Interview with Mike Gruttadauria

UCF Hall of Famer and Super Bowl Champion Mike Gruttadauria joined the Sons of UCF podcast to talk about his time at UCF and in the NFL. An inexperienced player coming out of high school, Gruttadauria got moved to center as a freshman and never looked back. From playing games in the empty Citrus Bowl, even against a team from Moscow, to playing on football's biggest stage, Mike has experienced it all. But, no matter what he has accomplished, he still has a fondness for the place where it all started.

Has anyone else seen the UCF License Plate with Canaveral Blue Numbers/Letters?

I was behind a car a week or so ago that had a UCF License Plate and I did a double take as the numbers/letters were in Canaveral Blue instead of white.

Do you think someone hand painted over the white with Canaveral Blue? (Believe its illegal to alter any license plate) or did someone get a special plate made thru UCF & the State?

I thought I grabbed a photo but I guess not...but wondered if anyone else has seen this car in the UCF/Oviedo area with the blue paint over the numbers/letters.

OT: The 12th Man+ Fund pushes the NIL envelope. Will Texas A&M opponents push back or join in?

The wording of the press release looked like something that might have come from any collective that has sprung up since name, image and likeness deals became part of college sports in 2021. Athletes, the release said, “will receive fair market value compensation to promote the organization’s mission through marketing services such as social media posts, appearances at events and speaking engagements.”

The difference? This didn’t come from a few-months-old NIL collective. It came from a 73-year-old booster club that in the 2021-22 school year raised $96.3 million through straight donations and donations tied to season-ticket packages for the athletic department it supports. Texas A&M’s 12th Man Foundation announced Wednesday that it has entered the NIL business, and this feels like yet another significant domino as the landscape of college sports remakes itself.

The foundation, which is affiliated with Texas A&M but not officially part of either the university or the athletic department, has created a marketing fund called the 12th Man+ Fund that would pay athletes to promote the mission of the foundation, which is to raise money to give to Texas A&M’s athletic department. So, theoretically, the 12th Man+ Fund could pay Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman or receiver Ainias Smith to promote the 12th Man Foundation.

This is the first time in the young history of NIL that a school’s dominant booster group has been this closely attached to a unit set up to pay players. It is modeled similarly to One Arkansas, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Razorback Foundation — the 12th Man Foundation’s Arkansas counterpart. But that is branded differently, and the Arkansas athletes are paid to promote charitable causes that aren’t affiliated with the athletic department. There is no attempt in the 12th Man Foundation’s case to differentiate the foundation and the NIL entity in terms of public perception.

A Mass Shooter's 'Motive'

Obviously, these non-stop mass shootings are sickening enough on their own. But the immediate media reactions to them are beyond asinine. We always hear the same news reporters say the same damn thing in their aftermath:
"No word yet on the shooter's motive."

THE SHOOTER'S "MOTIVE"??!? WTF??!? The latest Mass Shooter-of-the-Day has just mowed down a whole bunch of innocent people in cold blood so his 'motive' is really important for all of us to get to the bottom of ASAP so we can understand why this tragedy occurred??? Really???

Hey, here's a wild thought: Maybe these shooters are all ****ING CRAZY!!!!

Taylor Hendricks at #11 to Portland in B/R's Most Recent Mock Draft

2023 NBA Mock Draft: Full 2-Round Predictions Post-Trade Deadline

"11. Portland Trail Blazers: Taylor Hendricks (Central Florida, PF, Freshman)

Hendricks is shedding the sleeper label and becoming a popular prospect with the consistent shooting and defense that teams covet at both forward positions. His 39.3 three-point percentage, 1.8 blocks per game and 28 dunks drive the appeal, though there could be more upside to unlock if he builds on the flashes of drives past closeouts and shot-making versatility."

Side Note: They have the Magic taking Brandon Miller (Alabama, SF, Freshman) at #5 and Nick Smith Jr. (Arkansas, PG/SG, Freshman) at #8 with the Bulls pick.
