6 quarters

Posted in another thread but our last 6 quarters we’ve outscored opponents 101-13 (taking out the garbage SMU TD)

This is without a single turnover on defense and the only defensive points being a safety

I’m not going to pretend Temple is a great defense but looking at some of their other games they’ve really shut down pretty much everyone they’ve played and killed themselves with turnovers (I’m not surprised they didn’t have one against us)

If our offense keeps rolling like this and we start creating some turnovers on defense it’s going to be a really fun 2nd half of the season

Key AAC Games this Weekend....UCF could remain tied for 1st place

After last night's game, current standings look like this:

1) Cincinnati 2-0 (5-1)
1) Tulane 2-0 (5-1)
1) UCF 2-0 (5-1)
4) Memphis 2-1 (4-2)
4) Navy 2-1 (2-3)
6) Houston 1-1 (3-3)
7) ECU 1-2 (3-3)
8) SMU 0-1 (2-3)
8) Temple 0-1 (2-3)
10) Tulsa 0-2 (2-4)
10) cow u 0-2 (1-4)

Games this weekend will be:
Friday:
7:30 PM ESPN: Navy at SMU

Saturday:
4 PM ESPNU: Tulane at cow u
7:30 PM ESPNU: Memphis at ECU

UCF could stay tied with Cincinnati if Tulane falls to cow u.

After the Temple game, I am doubling down on rooting against those who left us for the Portal

Game was phenomenal. Castellanos was good, almost too good. Count me up as one of those worried about some asshole team trying to steal him away. I am at least buoyed a bit by the fact that we are going to the B12, and with that schedule, I believe, have a clear shot for the playoffs (hard as it may be to achieve, its there).

I've said before, I root against Dillon Gabriel at OU, in the interest of the message it sends to the strength of our program. But, I think the bigger message we want coming from all of these starters that leave for "better opportunities", is the grass is not always greener. If/when Gus is trying to convince players being pulled to stay, its better to say "look at X,Y, and Z - who left and are now benched or looking at playing a shitty bowl." rather than "look at X who is now playing lights out and a Heisman contender." Sour grapes aside, looking at it objectively, I can't help but want them to fail.

Of course, I'm not counting situations like DJ Mack, who transferred out because they weren't looking like they had much left of an opportunity here and wanted playing time at a smaller program - I will continue to root for them.

UCF WRs are having some FUN!

In Brandon's pre game thread on what Dungeon members wanted to see....I mentioned how I wanted to see Hudson become more involved and get comfortable and this was another game he did just that.

While Baker was quiet last night due to his ankle issue...Baker still leads the team in receiving yards (403) while ROK leads the team in total receptions (28) and receiving TDs (4). (ROK also has 96 yds rushing)

GAME 6, Temple @ UCF, Sim results and predictions.

10/11/2022 Temple Edition:

Let's recap SMU.

Julian and I both got the defense right. Julian predicted 24-17 and I predicted 30-24. UCF won 41-19.

What we didn't expect was the offense settling in more. Of course it was the 2nd half, but it seemed more relaxed and in tempo. The math from the sims was actually accurate with the average of 44. Figures, after I discounted it. Funny how that works.

I think we see more things gel offensively against Temple. I just get that feeling. Temple is in a process of rebuilding, I think...

Temple Fun-Facts:

It's not a Temple.

Temple got their mascot Owls because founder, Russell Conwell, started teaching students at night because of their work schedules. These students got the name “night owls” which is why Temple took the mascot of the Owl.

Temple has many notable alumni such as Bob Saget from Full House and Kunal Nayyar from The Big Bang Theory.

Some scenes from Creed, the new Rocky Movie, was filmed on campus. Scenes from an episode of Friday Night Lights were filmed on Temple's campus also.

***Onto the REAL Beef*** (or Baked Mango Habanero Wings)

10/13 Weather forecast at 7:00PM Eastern kickoff:
Sunset: 6:57pm
Temp: 80F
Chance of rain: 48% (48%...not 45%. Not 50%. No, 48%.)

TV: ESPNU

I ran 12 CPU simulations for a good math spread. I ran 6 of 12 with light rain. I think the offense is going to continue to improve at the right time. Just a gut feeling. Temple is coming at the right time too as other schools are starting to lose 2 games in conference.

Average of 12 simulation results:

UCF 51
Temple 27

Sim Avg Spread:
UCF -24 (Vegas: UCF -23.5 2:27PM 10/11/22)

"Heart" Prediction:

The defense is stout, and ranked among the best. I think the offense is going to start getting better. If they score in the 20s, it's due to garbage-time substitutions.

UCF 49
Temple 17

"Heart" spread:

CENTRAL FLORIDA: -32 (Vegas be damned)

My friend's son Julian's prediction:

UCF 56
Temple 3

Julian's line of doom: UCF -53 (He's not old enough for Vegas, sorry)

NOTE: Yes, two sims ended with the exact same score...

Multiple injuries last night

Hoping all the injuries and nicks were not serious.

Barber and Corbitt both went out after an injury timeout.

Harvey was holding his ribs after that 2nd Q catch down field and came out (I think for good), on the very next play.

Baker came out after a catch inside the 10 in the 2nd Q and went into the locker room. (He was onnthe sideline in 2nd half...no helmet so he was done).

Anyone else leave the game due to injury?

Tradition-Watch: Space Game Edition

One of my favorite UCF fan quirks is our obsession with CREATING NEW TRADITIONS.

So. How did we do last night?

Did we get Frankie Valli? Did people sing? Did they break out the up/down cell phone flash thing?

I was really impressed by the pryo / smoke they did during the edm stuff by the student sections against SMU.. has that stuck?

Any fun space game stuff that may come back year over year?

The announcers mentioned the boomer BOOM after he kicks - are we going for a scattered rumble of 'BOOMS' or are things feeling more coordinated?

Has anyone bothered to learn the words to our alma mater?

Basically:
